A commission for raishi This has been keeping me busy for a while =).
A group of six friends at Lake Compounce (an amusement park in Connecticut), having a fun time. The characters are, from left to right: kumongaarigeta, ionyxhalostar, raishi, kusahara, nekokaori, hunterevergreen
Raishi and Ionyx were chatting, when suddenly Nixie gets soaked by a gargoyle on the balcony of the back of the Ghost Hunt ride - Kusahara takes the opportunity to sneak a taste of Raishi's mint chip ice cream. Kaori is bouncing giddily carrying a plush penguin just won for her at a carnival game by Kumonga, and Hunter is cracking up at Nixie's misfortune. Not to worry, though, on those warm summer days, clothes dry out pretty fast =).
This piece was done with acrylic paints on 14"x17" illustration board. I didn't count the hours, but it took about 12 days of work in all.
The characters belong to their respective owners.

Only fair to give credit where it's due here, that top is actually my favorite one from Second Life, from Nyte'N'Day. ^^
You can say that again! What a tremendous scene, full of great character (*and* characters)!
Gorgeously detailed scene. Just curious though, does that sign in the background say fried bats?? :D :D
Mmm, then I'll have a crispy wing! :3 And I'm glad that I'm not going blind. ^^
Yep! The "fried bats" are actually just fried dough, or better, fried oreos (You can just feel your arteries clogging up if you eat even one, but...sooo good....).
You put so much effort and detail into your pieces. Every pic you make is worth every cent commissioners pay.
I wish one day I can commission you! ^^
keep up the beautiful work! <3

I am completely speechless and blown away with this piece of art,
this is awesome! Totally reminds me of when I went to Canobie Lake amusement park in NH a while back. :D Omigosh the dog girl licking the ice cream cone hehehe
Oh man, i haven't been to Lake Compounce in yeeeeears. This is completely awesome.
Just SO much FUN in all that, right there! thank you for sharing this!
Wow that's quite the commission. Nicely done, lovely textures as always, and this really looks like a snapshot of friends at an amusement park!
Very nice Picture Kacey, BTW, Thanks for the awesome Con Badge, even though I couldn't attend.
Thank you =D! And you're welcome, I'm glad you liked it =). Its too bad you couldn't be there - maybe next year!
This is so great, just looking at the picture gave me that feeling you get when you go to an amusement park, and I could almost smell the water, soggy popcorn, beer, sweat and metal of the entire park. AMAZING job with the rides, and background. <3 <3 <3!!!
What is the orange and blue ride right behind the characters? I can't find any info on it, nor can I find it on Google Maps of the place. The other rides, I have found.
That one's called Revolution - and its a new ride for this year =)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_L92rz1GUY See it in motion. It's a lot of fun, I assure you.
For a short while I thought the girl in the red hair was carrying a peice of the rollercoaster away with her xD Luckily not.
Excellent detail as ever, and in traditional medium to truly seal the deal.

You guys notice that all the chairs in the swinger have holes for the tails to go through?
Anyway, this is great drawing. I love it when you depict friends together hanging out. All the different species just being friendly with each other.

wait WTF I have that SAME blue and orange ride at MY amusement park where I work! :O really great piece
Finally! Couple weeks without seeing your art, and now it's worth the wait! I love the expression of each character, and the look on ionyxhalostar face was pricless!
Excellent job, kacey! =D
Excellent job, kacey! =D
Surprisingly enough, that is the exact expression I usually get when I am startled or Ninja!Tickled.
This is really impressive.
Kudos to you for habving the time, patience, and talent to do this.
Youre wonderful.

Wow...this is amazing. I have to admit I was staring at this for awhile. Great job.
Awww this is so adorable and funny at the same time
I love the expressions on their faces, aswell as the coloring and overall idea

The detail is amazing, this is a beautiful piece right out of life.
Yet another picture to prove just how epic and fantastic you are at being a artist.
Lake Compounce? what an interesting name. Seems very furry with "pounce" in the name ;)
"I [Godzilla] Tokyo" is hilarious ^_^
As always, great work Kacey! You do such amazing artwork!

I hadn't really thought about the name being Furry-ish before! Now I will always think that! :D
To be honest, I originally thought it was a fictional place and name, but reading on told me otherwise
hehe, I'm from Ohio. What do I know of amusement parks in New England?
Looks like a fun place to go! ^_^

It is an awesome place to go! :D I live about 2 hours away, and it always makes for the best day trips. Not to mention, they have the best haunted maze for Halloween!
Man! Does this bring back memories.I live close to Lake Compounce and went there many years ago.Great job! ^.^
Amazing amazing amazing!!!! I'm so glad Rai commissioned this, I can't wait to see it in person when Rai gets it :D It is gorgeous! I love the expression on my face. *virtual hugs*
This is amazing, the detail in it is just mind blowing. I love the texture of the fur and how the kitties tail is plumed and the fur or her shoulders is on end because of the surprising gargoyle attack. Absolutely stunning.
this really is a beautiful piece! great job^^
but why are all characters except for one just on one foot? i dunno why, i just kinda noticed X3

I admit it. I WOULD laugh like that. And then Nyxie would find a way to get revenge on me. But it would still be worth it. As for the art...I didn't think it would be possible to bring the park to life like this, and I've been proven wrong. As for how you got all of our personalities so spot on without knowing us, I'll just have to wonder. And watch for spy cameras.
Oh, I have my ways. Revenge is sooo sweet, when it's on Hunter! *wonders about the cameras as well*
I think it would be about the time when you are getting revenge on Hunty that I would notice anything had even happened. I love that stuffie.
I still don't know what to say about it...everyone else has pretty much already said it anyway. It's just amazing, I can't believe the amount of work you put into every little detail. The park looks right out of a photo, all of our characters are perfect...this has to be the most amazing piece of furry art I've seen in years, though maybe I'm a little biased! ^^
I just had to share this little bit for all the other watchers. When my friends and I were discussing the picture before commissioning it, we picked a location in the park for it, then decided what we should all be doing; Kaori, as in the picture, wanted to be hugging a big stuffed penguin. That weekend, we took a trip to the park to take reference photos, headed up to the spot where we wanted the pic...and the new prize they were giving away this year at the Whack-a-mole game? Giant stuffed penguins. Obviously it was meant to be =P
faving this solely because you painted the FRIED BATS sign, most ridiculous thing in that entire park
Wonderful work Kacey! That park looks like a fun place to visit. ^^
Oh wow, Lake Compounce! I've not been there in years! FRIED BATS! HAHAHA! Yes, their fried bats are good.
breath taking as always. i love how your pieces are little stories in and of themselves.
hey, I know that place, drive by it every so often . Nicely done!
It's so great to see some furry art that isn't PORN! This is awesome! I love it!
I want one of those "I 'Godzilla' Tokyo" shirts
epic work as always

Beautiful piece of art Kacey. I love everyone's expressions. And the amount of detail is mind boggling.
Awesome picture. Too bad Lake Compounce sucks.
I think its like someone dies there every year.
I think its like someone dies there every year.
Wow, try again.
There have been a handful of accidents there in the last couple decades, but all but one of them has been the victim's own stupidity...serious Darwin Award contenders. Jumping through a moving ride to try to impress your girlfriend? Climbing on a roller coaster to trim tree branches around it, while it's running and you have ear protection on so you can't hear it coming. Sending your child down a waterslide alone after telling the lifeguards he's riding with you...well, I'm not sure if erasing your genetic material by means of removing your own offspring qualifies for one, but still.
Just like most kinds of recreation, if you're a complete idiot, you're putting yourself in danger.
The only major accident there in the last several decades that wasn't someone's complete idiocy backfiring on them involved a major storm bringing a tree down that unfortunately hit someone. That one was a tragedy, but definitely not the park's fault either.

no no you're thinking of quassy. with the 'country's oldest wooden roller coaster' aka death trap. THAT place is awful.
Not sure if you meant that literally or not, but Quassy actually doesn't have anything that old...just, beat up enough to look that way. The oldest coaster is America (and the world) actually at Lakemont Park in PA (I spend waaay too much time readin gabout and exploring amusement parks... >.>)
well that's what i remember people telling me when i went there several years ago. i don't think it was the -oldest- just the last functioning wooden one, or something. it was just hearsay anyway. either way it looked really rickety and unsafe and i refused to ride it :<
Well Excaliber at Valley Fair in Minnesota is mostly wooden.... one of the most awesome roller coasters I've ridden.
There are tons of wooden coasters still running. They still build them, often; there are plenty of them built within the last few years.
But, yes, Quassy is a bit..iffy looking. Some of their rides could use quite a bit of TLC, at the very least.

So much detail, amazing bright colors, unique awesome looking characters, everything about this picture is perfect and awesome. :) Great work!
Your scenes are always so pleasant to look at. Being part traditional artist myself, I must commend you for your dedication to attention to detail. Keep up the great work.
This makes me want to revisit. Maybe next year, I'm planning on Hershey Park and Knoebel's this year. :)
Knoebels is amazing; one of the best parts in the country. Hershey...good coasters, but be careful when you go. There's not much for shade, and they don't handle crowds well at all, so hot, crowded days can be absolutely hellish there.
Oh, thanks very much for the tip. I'll try to pick a cooler weekend, not the 90+ and humid we have this week, bleh.
Amazing detail in this picture, poor Nixie. And yeah with the heat wave spreading over the U.S she won't have to worry about her clothes being wet for long.
FUCK your art is always so rich. It evidences how amazing you are.
Stunning detail and overall gorgeous composition as always can be expected from this exceptional artist
*squeezes tightly to her Lathrop* (That's the penguin's name.)
Kacey, This came out so awesome. All of our expressions are so dead on. The details in the background are perfect. It makes me happy just looking at it. ^^
Thankie so much for working so hard on this. *hugs*

Outstanding work! I used to LOVE going to Lake Compounce when I was a kid!
Notice the jet of water coming down at her back? That would be why. xD
-shrug- Just sayin' it how it is. I'm not familiar with this theme part, nor have I been to it...sooo...
The gargoyles spit rotate and spit water periodically... Weird, but fun ^.^
It could be fun, but splashing water around randomly in a busy street might make some furries mad. Can you imagine the law suits!? =O Well, besides the legal implications, it is very nicely done. =)
just the detailing of the rides and the background, it's all just so fantastic o.o
Must suck to be a cat that doesn't love water. to be splashed by water.
I love how sneaky the red-haired dog is licking the ice-cream of that black and white dog.
The background looks lovely and the people on the ride look well positioned.

Magnificent and kyoot and chock fulla fun! Bravissimo!
Hot dang, you do that well. The characters are vibrant and feel real, the setting is well done as always, and that roller coaster in the background looks real enough that I want to jump on it myself... bravo, Kacey, bravo.
my scanner bed is 8.5"x11" (standard size) - For most of my pieces, I have to scan in 2 pieces and assemble.... for this one I had to scan in 4 pieces and assemble ^.^, I've gotten fairly good at that, though.... since I do it for nearly every image.
Kacey, if you ever decided to denounce all things furry, repent for your wicked ways, and just draw wholesome neighborhood scenery and beautiful landscapes, you would still have a top spot in your field. It's awesome to see someone put so much effort into a setting and background using traditional media, I know how frikkin time consuming it can be.
If I could offer any critique, it would be the stream of water is a little hard to see, and maybe could use a brighter contrast to show sunlight sparkling off the droplets. In fact, I hope you do more bright sunlight/deep shadow type works, you seem to be getting better at this stuff every time I look, and I've been looking a long time.

Thank you very much =)...
I do think I need to work harder on creating greater contrast in my works (or perhaps darkening them up overall)... its a little hard when working traditionally with acrylics, because you start with *white*, so everything looks a lot darker than the blank paper, even if its not. Optical illusion... The white of the water couldn't get much lighter than it is, unless I left spots of blank white paper, likely through application of liquid frisket - but what I did was thin washes of acrylics over the 'stream' area through the background, and then spatters of pure white acrylic over it. I think it shows up pretty well in the original, but you are right that it does lack the 'glittery' look that water under sunlight has....

I love the purple-haired feline's expression. :3
Looks great overall, too! :D
Looks great overall, too! :D
That "Win an iPod" poster is like a banner ad, but in real life! Well.. sorta real life. RL for those guys, anyway.
In any case, great work as always, Kacey.

So much respect for how many full pictures you do that include things like buildings and multiple characters. It's so inspiring, I want to draw something nice now!
Do they make midtoned illustration board? I think using that and/or underpainting could maybe help with contrast like you were mentioning above as well as uniting the colours a bit O:

Thanks so much =D! I enjoy creating detailed scenery, time consuming though it is....
I haven't seen mid-toned illustration board before, but that would be awesome to try!...
With underpaintings, I do work in layers, but I don't do a full-page underpainting to get tones down before adding color/detail. I may try a few things out and see what I can do.

This is entirely too lovely! There are very few artists on this site who can do group scenes and backgrounds like you.
I'll admit when I looked at the thumbnail I initially thought it to be a photo. Great background, expressions, designs, everything. Awesome pic that more need to fave X3
Wow, such awesome detail! I like how even in the swing ride in the background you have little tweaks like the tail-holes for furs. Heh - I love Kumonga's shirt. ^_^
Mew oh wow I live 10mins away from Lake Compounce. since I live in Bristol
This is absolutely beautiful! Not a surprise that it took nearly two weeks of work.
Beautiful details, and I even recognize the ride in the background from a local amusement park. Really nicely done, indeed. :)

awesome, I like those little surprise squirting gargoyles :)
I love this piece! ^^ SO many gems like this beat the SNOT outta pieces with (dick penis dick vag more dick and buttsmexins) anyday. I'm glad its gotten the attention it deserves ^^
always so blown away by the sheer detail you pack into every image Kacey :'3 this is gorgeous and so full of life~! ^____^
One of these days...
Love the art. Always. You continue to be one of my favorite artists. Not just furry/anthro but overall. I hope I get to see more and more art for years to come.
In this piece I love how much you have going on and all the detail. Not just the detail in the background but everywhere. Where ever I look there's a neat surprise. You always put so much care into your work and that's why I like you so much.
One of these days I'm going to win one of your auctions and commission you. But I'll have to prepare for it and think of something truly worthy. Maybe a scene with multiple characters like this pic. Who knows but some day I will.

Great googaly! You continue to astonish! Amazing work as always!!
That's amazingly beautiful :D I was just at Lake Compounce a few weeks ago :P
This is amazing. More-so for the fact that my roomate works at the golf game that's the third down in the drawing. He found this and is the one that showed it to me. He is a fur hater. I am laughing my ass off at him right now. This is just too perfect. You have attained so much win. Seriously.
Time and again you never fail to amaze and inspire me by the shear amount of detail you put into your work. I love how your backgrounds bring so much life into both your charters and your art as a whole. Thank you for sharing yet another of your masterful works with us all.
Wow this looks amazing! I love all the details that went into it <3
HOW HAVE I NOT ADDED THIS TO MY FAVORITES YET!

Too bad that wasn't available as a ref I commissioned this.

Holy crap when did street view get put into amusement parks and why are we not in that view? :( We should be. Anyways about a week left and we shall be there again. :)
I know! It was during a weekend in May last year too, so it very well could have been when we were at the park. I don't know the exact date. I looked all over the park and didn't see us though...but I don't remember seeing a street view camera vehicle when we were there either.
Arrrgh! That frightened expression on her face, it's really well shows how the peoples get scared on some rides. Awesome picture!
