I love this! Sagan is just... so damn cool. I made a little tribute of my own on my non-furry page http://www.storm-artists.net/view/121995
"What would Carl do, other than rolling a blunt and doing deep doobage as he speculates the universe around the Solar System while not disregarding the universe inside his fingernail ?"
RIP Carl Sagan! Boy do we need you more than ever before in these crazy times . . .

I don't even really know who this guy is but you still made me smile. :)
He was the first astronomer to bring the universe down to earth and at the same time set our imaginations free among the stars.
He truly awoke the idea that divinity can be experienced without the supernatural that Divinity and spirituality can exist within rational minds and hearts <3.
Your statement implies that anyone who is religious or believes in God is not rational and that is a prejudicial. Also, there is no such thing as a rational heart. The 'heart' is the considered the seat of emotion, not reason.
Carl Sagan no doubt reveled in the marvel and glory of the universe and sought to inspire others to share in the wonder and majesty that we instinctively feel when we look at the universe. However, the idea that spirituality can exist in Carl Sagan's view is a bit nonsensical, since according to his view of reality, there is no such thing as 'spirit.' Only matter and energy exists and there is nothing else that transcends the material world.
Ironically, Carl Sagan's true love and reverence for the universe in light of his atheism begs the question as to why mere aggregations of matter that are the product of time plus chance would possess the unique apprehension and awareness of something transcendent to nature itself.

... a second round !
It is so good to know that others see the legacy he left behind and share in the vision he wanted to show us all. There are not many...if any at all, that can say what he says, the way he says it. }:=)

I made stickers and plastered them all over my friends' stuff <: !
Muhaha xD he has returned!
"Let's imagine, that into flat-land, comes a three-dimensional creature, which oddly enough looks like an apple."

Whenever something happens. I ask this same question. Love the image and the man in it.
The Symphony of Science project brought him back to the fore. Hadn't heard of the guy before that.

The sky calls to us
If we do not destroy ourselves
We will one day venture to the stars

Carl Sagan was a great spokesman for scientific inquiry, space exploration, and skepticism. Rumor has it he doesn't afraid of anything.
I wonder who will be this generation's Carl Sagan?

I was going to say Robert Zubrin but I like your suggestion more, I think.
Awesome
I shall ask myself WWCSD? before making any momentous life decisions from hence forth.

Cosmos is my favorite video series of all time (I've never read the book), and Carl Sagan is my favorite scientist of all time. Great tribute with this picture!

I faved this because of his statement about how society has so much technology in it's grasp, but it doesn't know how it really works.
Be adequately amazed by everything, I mean he is the man who allows me to know I am mostly water and all of my elements are on a table of elements. In my head there is a computer that will fire off so many reactions that they out number not just the grans of sand on earth but the stars in the universe of which somehow outnumber even the sand despite being so massive they are all on a scale we can barely imagine.
I think I love you. Uhm. Have you ever seen https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6223974/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Has alot of very interesting information of him, as well as his son who really introduced me to their family many years ago with the books he wrote.
I find myself asking what Carl would think of how things are today. I miss his smile. His words still echo through the cosmos because of the Voyager mission, as well as within our hearts as none have ever spoke so profound as he did. Didn't think I'd find any Sagan admirers here, you have my love!
