I'm back on DeviantArt!
Hey everyone!
While participating in ArtFight, I have noticed soooo many brilliant artists are ONLY on DeviantArt. I used to be on there, but I ended up deactivating my account ages ago. It had been deactivated for too long, so I had to re-sign up haha.
So if you prefer DA over FA, here ya go! https://www.deviantart.com/nairasart
PS: Boy, it looks so weird now, like an Artstation clone XD Kinda cool though, it does look more modern.

Also yeah a "delete all notifications" easily would be fuckin grand.
That said it is a lot better than it was when they first introduced it.
First up things were changed so you couldn't customize your dA page very much anymore. This means that everyone's page looks so much more similar to each other - for creative people, this... is not a good thing. No more journal skins either.
Secondly, they split up notifications into THREE seperate places. You have to click for one page to get an overview of any notes and whatnot you've gotten, you have to click another place to see any comments and other feedback you've gotten, and a THIRD place to see new uploads from the people you follow. Previously you were able to access all three from one page, so you could easily do one after the other. IMO this is the wors part of the update, because it also completely burries journal updates - and let me tell you: I've seen a DRASTIC reduction in journal posts from everyone, since... well... with the journal updates being burried, I think everyone realized that they werent going to get comments on those anymore.
Now, since dA removed the ability to customise your own page's HTML, they instead set up a more web 2.0 "custom box" setup - but you can only add three. Previously you were able to add ten - so, again, less customization and it all looks the same as what everyone else has. Where you can put these extra widget boxes is also very limited.
You can't remove the "About" widget if you want to
You could previously see on someone's profile if it was their birthday - that's gone
polls got changed - maximum 120 characters for questions, max 70 for answers - that's VERY limited
Previously sta.sh could also store writing - that's gone
status updates were previously only shared with watchers, now they're shared with everyone - a lot of ppl didn't like that
you can only choose between a series of predefined backgrounds now, you can't upload your own
Certain upload functionality is gone - previously you could upload multiple emotes, icons and images at once if you knew how to. now you have to do everything once at a time. that's just a straight downgrade IMO
The "featured gallery" thing is quite unpopular with a lot of artists. I get why its there, but you can't turn it off if you don't want it - a lot of artists just want to display ALL their art.
The fact that you can now give "hearts" or what amounts to "Likes" to comments. A lot of people dont like this, because frankly... it means fewer peoply actually talking to each other. A lot would prefer that people write what they feel, instead of pressing a generic like button.
Now, officially what dA was trying to do is immitate things like Art Station to attract more professional artists - since most of them have left dA to places like Art Station, making the vast majority of dA's users amatures. The new layout is also far more optimized for mobile and pad use, but in turn this means that PC users (like me) feel quite shafted) since we really don't need a lot of the bullshit the new layout came with. A lot of people just asked for the option to chose between the mobile-friendly layout and the old layout, but no...
So ya, that's about it. A lot of people consider it a downgrade, to pander to mobile and pad users. And since pretty much all serious artists work from PCs or large PC-tablets, then they really didn't feel a need for it that much. The streamlining of customization options means that you can't really make your page look very unique anymore, and the blatant attempt to attract old professional artists has failed spectacularly. And with journals and polls now being burried in the new split-up notification system people barely get any interaction on those anymore. Of the hundreds of people I watch, barely any of them post journals anymore on dA, because they know that hardly anyone will ever read or comment on them.
Oh dear, what did it do? It's been so long since I've been active in DA I barely remember what it was like.
I have considered on making a new account to post stuff tho, but haven’t decided yet.
kidding dear, I got you on both
