Thinking about identity
Posted a year agoWeird isn't it, gender identity? How apparently it can be wrong for you?
The weird thing is, for me, I don't think I've ever stopped not being typical to my gender. When I was young, I would buy dolls instead of cars, imagine my hair as long, instead of short and cry easily, instead of holding it all in and lash out. I always thought that it meant that I was different from the others.
The weird thing is how these small things don't always pan out
I've been getting way too obsessed with a singular question as of late, one of which included my identity. And the funny thing is, it's been gnawing me, more and more as of late. Rarely have I ever imagined myself as another, but I never took it personally. It got to the point that it started to bother me during my everyday life. It was impossible, I am unable to think normally and get on the bigger question in my life. What am I doing here!?
So, I started looking into it. I've looked up what people say online. I considered what many mentioned and compared it to myself.
And weirdly, the more I looked, the more desperate I became in understanding about myself. What am I feeling? Why can't I let go of this feeling? Why am I so stupidly obsessed?
And so, I did the most intimate test. I tried to see myself, in my intimate moment, as another.
All I felt was sick and tired. I felt shaken and sick in the stomach. I felt odd about myself and what I was doing.
And then I looked in the mirror, and it was all alright. And thinking on it, it all makes sense now. I can see myself, as I am, no better or worse than I was before. A bit flawed, but with his own strengths. Not the best looker, but not uneasy on the eyes. Even now, looking at this thing that I have, I can't imagine without it.
I feel safe. I feel myself. I feel at home. I feel...right.
Perhaps, I will not stop wondering about what would I be if I were different. But, I thought I was looking into the truth of myself, when all I did was push my own buttons, thinking I can better myself. But the reality, I don't want to change what I have. I want to better myself, but with the way I am, I don't want to lose what I am.
And if I feel better as this, why should I bother with exploring someone that is not me? Sure, I can try out some tests, see if I feel better that way...but then I realize, I found it too much work. Do I really want it then, if I find it too hard? I wouldn't seek to change anything that I already got, in which case, why is this so necessary for me to do?
So what if I don't fall within the typical lines? I've always been myself. Even the others found that out. And so what if I don't always realize what I am supposed to do? I've reacted to so many weird situations, maybe it's just a sign of my own view of the world. Sometimes, I just don't see myself there, but that doesn't mean I want to escape my body. When I see myself in a photo, in a video, or in a mirror, I am happy! I can see myself and see that I interact with the world! That I exist, and not just in my own thoughts! And so what if I feel empathetic to all who I see and speak to? That's just how I learned to be with other people, and people are wonderful! But they do not represent me!
As I look back, I realize, I was way too scared of what Might be "true" than I enjoyed the thought of it being true. I was never hit with logic behind what I was feeling, I was panicking. I kept confronting the "problem", but all I did was pull myself into a spiral.
I am perfectly fine person, whose identity is also, perfectly fine. I am atypical, but not made "wrong", and I don't need to change myself. I don't have to seek a solution, as there is no problem.
Perhaps, I am still going to question myself about many more stuff.
But I think I figured out where I am on this.
Good day to you all,

End of the year TRIPLE REVIEW ROUNDUP!
Posted a year agoWell hello there! It's almost New Years, and before we do, I'd like to do some quick review of three very different animated movies that came out recently. These are smaller reviews, so I'll try not to ramble.
~~
Strange World (Almost Atlantis)
Synopsis: The son of the famous explorer is called on an adventure to figure out why their unique source of energy is dying, while trying to reconnect with his estranged father as well as his own, very different son (who happens to be gay, but that's not the major part of it, but THANK GOD they are actually portraying it and not leave it in a throwaway line.)
Plot: Standard adventure fare, with some elements of family. VERY obvious environmental message. Really did not bring anything new.
Character: The father, grandfather and son trio carry the film, because no one else is remotely memorable or stand out. It kinda makes it much worse than Atlantis, which while flawed, had a very fun cast.
Animation: beautiful visual and exceptional grasp of 3D that it's almost fluid like no other. Though nothing exceptional.
Overall, it's a mid movie. It has many good ideas, and for some I give it credit...but it just barely left anything in me after a watch. Perhaps it'll become a cult classic, but I don't expect it to wow people. 6/10
~~
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (Fairies, talking animals, living puppets and fascists)
Synopsis: a retelling of Pinocchio classic helmed by the fish-lover himself.
Plot: FUCK YOU DISNEY.......................A very different retelling of the story, taking in place during World War, as well as various other changes to the story, some of which I found interesting, and others really refreshing. From Gepetto's backstory, to the fairy being an otherworldly creature with her own morality, to Pinnochio's immortality, all of these give unique element to the story (some of which Disney ripped off for no reason in their Remake, jessus fucking christ). Then there's fascist Italy and a lot of other elements which...I can see why, although not where my mind would've went. Very inventive, emotional, and ties to the theme extremely well.
Character: Quirky, yet charming. They were given a lot of love, and I do remember each well.
Animation: Stop-motion is always a treat, and this one had a very unique gothic style.
Overall, a great little movie, recommendable for people to check out if they want to. Above any other Pinocchio's that came out this year (Weird huh?). Not something I'll watch again, but hey, you might fall in love with it. 8/10
~~
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (How To Create A Furry Fandom For Your Movie)
Synopsis: Spin-off to Shrek and loose-sequel, taking several years after 4th movie, unlike first Puss movie being a prequel. After wasting his lives, Puss decides to retire, only to learn of magical Wishing Star which could grant him his lives back. Goes on adventure, while reconnecting Kitty Softpaws, dealing with Perrito and battling against "Little" Jack Horner, Goldilock and Three Bears, and Latest Furry Bait.
Plot: 'chef's kiss' EVERYTHING IS SOOO GOOD! Easy to follow, fun, dramatic, sympathetic, funny, and thematically well-tied together, to the point I feel like it's the best movie Dreamworks done in years! Way above even Disney has done that makes me want to revisit it soon!
Characters: Loved them all! Puss is now more human than ever. Kitty feels more 3-dimensional. Perrito is not annoying, THANK GOD, and actually contributes to the plot. Jack Horner is pure villainy, and you love it! (God I missed unrepentant sociopathic jackasses!) The wolf is *spoilers* great. My favorite though were Goldie and her bear family, because of how fun they are and how they tie into the theme of the movie. Like, I wanna see them appear in the future again, I love them so much!
Animation: I may have a differing opinion here, because I think they maybe shouldn't have experimented with the style here. Not that it didn't look good (IT'S GORGEOUS okay?) but like, with a Shrek property? Designed to look raunchy and awkward? Fight scenes do look good though. I'm mixed here, not to say I hate it, but I feel like it might have dulled the punch.
Overall, 10/10, movie of the year for me (I did like Encanto, but this his my personal strings more.) Highly recommend it to be checked out in theatres.
And that's all for this year! Happy holidays everyone! To our future.

Wendell & Wild - Halloween Classic! (Could use a tune-up....
Posted a year agoHo-ho-ho, Merry Halloween guys!
...
Yeah, I got this review out late, don't judge me.
But yeah, Wendell & Wild, a stop-motion movie, animated by Henry Selick himself and with writing credit of Jordan Peele (Get Out), comes a movie that has a chance to be a beloved Halloween classic! I got really excited myself when I saw the trailer and felt really interested in seeing it myself! And you know what, I will admit that I got interested due to more typical, self-explanatory reasons. And man, I did enjoy it!
...Albeit I do have some issues.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJp.....hannel=Netflix
Synopsis: Kat is your typical, happy little girl who accidentally killed her parents in a freak accident. After being sent from one orphanage to the next and then to juvie, she is then sent back to her hometown, where she has to attend a Catholic girls-only school in order to make up for her misbehavior. The baddest of them in the block, she is not interested in getting to know anyone, until she ended up stumbling into the eponymous duo, Wendell and Wild, a pair of demon brothers who need her help to get into the real world to realize their dream. Kat is skeptical, but after negotiating with them a chance to get her parents back to life, she makes the deal with the two devils, sending her hometown in a nightmarish experience they won't forget.
A lot of things about this movie is honestly pretty good, save for one point, so let's list them.
Animation: OH GOD THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL. Henry Selick returns once again to do some stop motion animation, despite only doing Nightmare before Christmas and Coraline, and yet, once again, pulled it off with brilliance! Great puppet design, great set designs, fun colors, great effects, the stop motions that felt indistinguishable from Computer Animation, it is all so good! Really worth watching on that alone.
Characters: All of them are pretty likeable! And honestly, Wendell and Wild, voiced by the famous Kay and Peele duo, just stole the show. Their scenes are fun, and their character are memorable. The Sister and the janitor duo are also good, Raul is a cool friend who happens to be trans (thus is why there is a boy in an all girl school) and Siobhan is good too...That said, I will admit, Kat herself happened to be the weakest character. She is not awful, mind you, but like...there are elements about her that feel unsatisfying and incomplete.
Plot: And here comes the gist of my problems. Now, first of all, I had no problem with the plot itself. I think it went well, I followed it without problem, there were good set ups and payoffs, and even the whole anti private prisons message is generally well done! But man...the structure and the pacing!
The pacing feels so rushed, I don't think they ever let the scenes enough time to breathe. I remember them based on visuals alone...but not on the actual feeling of it! Sure, I probably will get some on repeat watches, but that doesn't feel right though. The structure also is a mess, in that too many things happen at once, and yet not all of them are given good feel or attention. There were several things that needed fleshing out, payoffs that never appeared. It could really used a whole new spin off comic book series or something! Like, to make my point clear, remember the accident that happened at the beginning? Never followed up! No seriously, Kat literally just happened to have gotten a candy apple that happened to had the most aggressive pair of gummy worms inside of it, nothing thematic about that at all.
Seriously, the whole thing could have done the following:
- Trim the fat. There were several times that scenes or information got repeatedly given to the audience, without giving a variation or something new to it.
- Make Kat the POV character. Literally, everything that happens happened around her, and while she has connections to it all, everyone else does way more than she. To the point, I kid you not, when Raul gets into trouble, she only decides to go and save him, after being convinced to do that by someone else! She is rarely driving her own character! Seriously, don't just do the stereotypical bad girl vibe with her, give her own suggestion as to why her parents died, interest in occult, maybe more, because all she did was mope that her parents died, talk about all who she gets close to get hurt (Umm, all you showed us from before where your parents...who else got hurt close to you???), and then get sucked into bringing them back to life, and nothing else. Make here more interesting, and use other characters to make her get glimpses of what every else do (Raul for the school and Siobhan for the Private Prison thingie) while developing her relationship with them, all the while used the Sister and Demon Brother to signify her morality and choices. Seriously, she feels so incomplete!
- Should have focused on grief more. Oh sure, give us the protesting for whats right, the family bond, and what else, but you really dropped the ball on the set up of bringing parents back to life and not doing much. I mean, the movie DID do an excellent scene of her coming to terms with her grief...but it was all Told and not Shown beforehand, so the emotional catharsis was not there at all!
- Sorry, you should have made W&W the main villains. I mean, they are "villains", but like, man! The whole thing should have had more mystical elements to it, but the climax was such a let down, to the point that the mysticism just wasn't given the right amount of spotlight it should have. Make THEM responsible for those evil worms or something! You had that right there!
Overall: 7/10
Its a good movie, and I recommend it for a watch! But I don't think I'll revisit it consciously. If you liked it, great!
Oh, and happy Chrisis and what not.

Turning Red - Ehhhhhhhhhhhh.......
Posted 2 years agoSo, this movie gathered some controversies before it was even released, eh? Funny actually, especially now that it's out, and there wasn't that much of a reason to get so invested.
Okay then...
Premise: The movie follows Mei, your average Chinese-Canadian young teen girl living her life in the best year 2004. She is interested in typical teen-girl stuff, like hanging out with her friends Miriam (The straight-woman), Priya (Goth not in fashion, but soul!) and Abby (Wario's estranged daughter); getting obsessed with boy band 4-Town (Yes they are actually 5 members, nobody knows why) and of course, being dutiful to her parents. After one rather VERY embarrassing evening with her mom, Mai ends up waking up turned into a giant red panda creature, just like in the legends about her guardian ancestor. Learning from her parents that she needs to control it before they could cure her, Mei's life is put into a struggle between meeting expectations set for her and getting control of her life.
And this movie is Mid.
Okay, I know that there was this whole expectation that it was either going to be really good, or extremely hated, but the end result really is...mid. But to elaborate:
Plot: EXTREMELY PREDICTABLE, even though the creator also made BAO short (saw it only once, and yet it would not leave my head). I've already told you the premise, but you can pretty much figure out what will happen next, actually. If you need further proof, the mother is overprotective and has her own panda form she is hiding via talisman, which is revealed early in the movie. BOOM, spoiled the rest of the plot.
Not only that, it has this weird case that started with Luca of not actually having stakes or following through most consequences for the main character (I'll elaborate later). There are elements that could have used more emphasis, but then again, it would have made for an entirely different movie.
It's theme of puberty and maturity is weirdly done. Turning into a panda monster that was needed to get through war time is a weird concept. It works in some scenes, though, but leaves your head scratching in others.
There overall tone though is not bad, and I did follow through normally. It simply the case where the more I think about it, the more question might pop up.
Characters: You either like the main characters, or hate them, or, interestingly, feel like their potential was wasted. On the one hand, Mei is relatable (Hardy Hardy Har insert comment on controversy here) and has a poignant struggle as a dutiful daughter. Hell, how she reacted to things at first were very sympathetic. That said, as people pointed out, she got away with most of the things she did (not exactly though, but then again, she had to pay for them less) and generally felt too self-centered. On the other hand, I liked her friendship with other girls (who sadly kinda turned into one unit instead separate characters) and even more so, her relationship with her mother.
I'm just gonna say, her mother is the most fascinating character in the movie. Some may not like how over the top antagonistic she is, or find her too unlikeable, but I was extremely interested in her. She was raised with trauma, had to deal with being raised perfectionist, is honestly in great relationship with her husband and daughter, in that she loves them deeply, but is extremely strict, all the while dealing with her own issues. The movie should have made her a deuteragonist, or hell, made the movie focus on her. But then it would change the main hook of the movie, in which case...meh.
Presentation: Ugly bean mouth animation that is actually pretty okay, but I'd rather them not continue with it. It worked for the movie and was basically fine here, but I think it would've been better as hand-drawn in style of Klaus. You know, still 2D, but made to look 3D. Generally, love it or hate it.
Comedy: Did not mind it one bit. Surprised huh? Well, this type of cringe I had no problem. It's really just teen being teens, and though it does over-rely on second hand embarrassment jokes. Really up to you.
Seriously, this movie is an "not for me" style movie. You may like, or hate it, or think its alright and then forget it the next day. I loved the music though, and would buy that 4 TOWN album.
Overall, 6/10.

Of Kings and Vagabonds
Posted 2 years agohttps://www.deviantart.com/krrouse/.....-and-vagabonds
I think you all are aware by now that I am HUGE fan of Lion King. Like, it defined quite a bit of my tastes when it comes to media and storytelling. And of course, since it is considered one of the best animated movies of all time, it managed to build a HUGE fanbase, full of people with passion for TLK. Which to me was great, as I get to enjoy endless amount of forms of fanart. You'd probably seen them here already, what's with lion-sonas and other, sometimes racier, art pieces. At times, you also stumble upon a fun fanfiction story done with the same amount of love and commitment a Trekkie or Star Wars fan does to their beloved franchises. That said, majority of the the time they are fun "What If..?", others are shipping materials, and of course, a deep dive into author's character (a practice I'm guilty of as well).
And then you have "Kings and Vagabonds," by KRRouse
Do note, I don't usually feel like doing this type of advertising. Not because I hate advertising, but because I tend to not consider it necessary on my part to do that. Some people will like it, others don't, it's all good. But I wanted to give more love to this fancomic due to how well it managed to "touch" me, and outright "inspire" me! The story follows Banzai, Shenzi and Ed, the hyena henchmen trio of Scar's after the latter's fall, as they have to live with the consequences of theirs, Scar's, and even Simba's actions.
I will admit, I tended to gloss over the hyena characters in general. I don't find them interesting in TLK, beyond their designated role as bad guys, or a lesson about specieism and whatnot. So I have to commend the author for finding a way to make me care for them to this extent. Now to elaborate, the reason why, while I love most fanfics, I don't usually go out of the way to recommend usually has to do with how much they satisfy this "respect" I have for the product. Any product, mind you. Usually, it's just "principles", like for example: Accuracy, Maturity, Artistry, and etc. These are common in every fan, of course. And usually, not every one of these was able to follow though them (Inaccurate; Character Retcon; Too violent; Too fluffy; Losing the plot...). So believe when I say how glad I am to have found this little comic!
The best thing I have to say is how it feels close to almost accurate to how characters are. The only differences here come from understandable plot necessities. It is darker than the original for sure, but it's not too dark, and has fluffy, and even humorous moments (I chuckled at the "Hakuna Matata" joke, not going to lie), without ever tonally whiplashing. The art is, I'll say for the most part, definitely done with passion. While not the most gorgeous thing out there (This is an art site, you've seen many), I give credit for trying to keep it close to the movie's style and working with it effectively to give appropriate moods for the scene. The plot is engaging from beginning to end, and the twist is well done. My nitpicks are minor, and they kinda have to do with inclusion of Kopa (I personally don't subscribe to his theory), as well as how this story fits with Lion Guard cannon (Then again, I'm more than happy with retconing Lion Guard a bit than this story!).
Genuinely, take a look if you are a TLK fan. Its over 200 pages long, but worth seeing at least once.
Also, TW: Blood, Suicide, and some Heavy Themes. If you having trouble with Deviant Art, look it up here:

Also, the author is writing her own book, so check it out!
Gracias.

Paw Patrol Movie - Exactly What Every Kid Imagines It
Posted 2 years ago*Very sorry for being late!*
So...Paw Patrol? That weird cartoon that every kid below eight loves to bits and is considered liked by everyone everywhere. Look, I am not saying its weird how one cartoon managed to reach that status, MLP FiM is a thing here, but I am totally floored by how much love this show gets. I admit, thanks to watching over my nephew, I've come to learn quite a bit about the series, and dare I say, I still not exactly sure I get it. Formulaic plot, stock and kinda thin characters, presentation which is nice, though not far above what you seen in other kids shows. That said, I will admit, that the action is competently done, and while comedy isn't that good, it does feel as if a lot of effort is thrown there. Let's just say, it's not a show done without some form of enthusiasm.
And so, that takes us to the movie. One of the few shown in theatres, in fact. I waited until I could see it later, but I must say, it definitely was unique.
Plot: So, let's make this clear - the story follows Ryder (AKA, oh yeah, that one human kid) and his six+ puppies rescuing citizens of Adventure Bay from disasters, such as avalanches to missing chickens. The movie, after opening with them rescuing a crashing truck, has them move to Adventure City (New York, New York) in order to stop Mayor Humdinger from damaging the city via his schemes after becoming the mayor of Adventure City, winning by default (How...do politics work there?). Oh, and also, apparently one of the puppies has TRAGIC PAST with the city, yeah.....
Characters: If you knew about them from the series, it's not different in here either. You have clumsy Marshall, funny Rubble, those other three and Chase, the police dog (Remember how this got controversial for some reason???????) who got a whole new backstory. Which according to my brother, was something they added out of nowhere? They also added this new wiener dog who is a big fan of them, and she is nice. Honestly, they don't add anything new to it that wasn't there before. So...there.
Action and presentation: Honestly, I cannot overstate how much getting the movie quality severely uplifted the series. Done by the same team behind Spongebob Movie, the action is WAY above what you may have seen the show do. And honestly, it was exciting at times. And for all my bagging on Chase, the climactic scene with him was pretty good. It felt like they lifted the kiddie glasses for a bit there, I actually got chills. Otherwise, nice presentation.
Overall
The movie isn't anything new, or won't likely get you interested in the series. But it does what it set out to do, to give the fans the movie they always wanted. If I were to describe it, remember how when you were young, you'd apply cinematic view to your favorite show, well, this movie is that. It is as epic as the kids who loved it say it is, and I can't fault it for that.
Enjoy your day

BNA Review - Barely, Not really, Acceptable
Posted 2 years agoOk, so allow me to preface this journal for today with this: no new chapter for today. The week has been crazy, nasty thing happening one after another. First, my computer rebooted and lost files, so I had to restart what I've written from scratch; the internet went down in my place, and I had to deal with the whole shebang; and lastly, had to help my folks at home, and GAWD, we only ended up at around 5 in the MORNING. Lets just say, I'm a currently mess, and decided to postpone it till next week. Just for that I give you this review about BNA, or Brand New Animal, by Studio Trigger.
Studio Trigger is, pretty much, a well known figure in anime community, especially in the west, thanks to their high-octane action and stylized animation, these guys have a cult following like no other. From Gurren Lagann to Kill la Kill, they made numerous works that people love to this day...and Darling in the Franxxx. Yeah, I think you know where I am going with this, so let's get to the point.
Synopsis: The story follows Michiru, a young tanuki girl who ran away into the Animus City, a city populated by those who have an ability to switch between normal humans forms and their animal anthro ones. Michiru came there to find peace thanks to her current condition, and ends up finding friendship with a few denizens, including Shiro Ogami, a self-appointed protector of Animus City (who happens to be a wolf-man, if the name gave it away), who also happens to despise humans. Michiru, on the other hand, isn't interested in staying in Animus City for long, cause you see, she doesn't consider herself and Animal Person, but a human instead!
So yeah, pretty standard stuff, and not that far from the forte that Trigger dabbles in. But does it do well? Eh...
Characters: Pretty memorable, not gonna lie, which seems to be their strength. While nowhere near explosive as something like Kill la Kill, the characters have defined and honest personalities, which makes them likeable. Michiru's need to go back to human society after transforming into an animal person is definitely an interesting angle, and her chemistry with Shiro is undeniably the main part of the series. Other characters are also fairly versatile and fun, and overall, help to create an interesting and lively atmosphere that is the world of Animus City.
That said, few faults do come form few places. Michiru, being the main character, falls frequently to pinballing against one thing after another, to the point that she ended up both the main conflict and the main resolution of the series by literally, just, being pinballed by an outside force. She does in fact a strong personality, don't get me wrong, but her development is kinda meh. The rest of the cast have the problem of either being too pigeonholed, or sidelined by the main plot to be given good amount of time to flesh out and have more dimensions. The villain is in fact, pretty underwhelming, even if thematically makes sense and has cool design.
Plot: Man, let's just say the first half and the latter half are two completely separate entities. Like, the elements that they introduce later in the series really come out of nowhere, and the ultimate twist felt like they failed to live up to their needed potential. It tried to give all character their due, after setting them all up from the beginning of the series, but it felt like just a season one finale.
And funny enough, I don't mind the majority of plot elements they've introduced. Many of them felt like they could've fitted, which if you've seen the series, you know which ones I mean. The problem was that it required a far more subtle, nuanced and "quieter" type of writing, which BNA couldn't necessarily pull off, cause Trigger is, well, very high-octane. The handled themes with a bludgeon, which while worked in Kill la Kill, made BNA and incomplete failure when it came to the plot.
Action, Animation, Presentation: Which of course, comes down to this. If their unique animation could've carried the simple plot like it did in KlK, they could've come out with dumb fun. Unfortunately, they never went beyond, because of the material they were given. They did tried their best, not gonna lie, and when it went out, it went ALL OUT. But it barely covered the weaknesses of the above two points.
Overall: BNA was a fun one time watch. It had great ideas, interesting characters and an atmosphere that only Studio Trigger could provide, and I love them for it. Sadly, it couldn't bring in the same hype, so the whole series ended with a bit of meh. A 6/10, if you will.
Watch if you're interested, happen to be a fan of ST or just think that having animal people is enough to give the media a personality. But don't expect anything their previous work managed to do for you, cause while its fine, it's also "fine".
PS, I'm in the middle of finishing two other works. Will publish them soon enough!

Luca Review - Miyzaki Like, In A Good Way
Posted 3 years agoSo I've just seen Luca, so let me give some thoughts:
Premise: The story follows Luca, a young Sea Monster with a inquisitive mind who sometimes gets himself into trouble. After meeting Alberto, another Sea Monster who's been living on land to go to the surface, Luca decides to try and be Part Of That World, especially after his parents forbade him to go further since humans are dangerous. And so, begins adventures of our duo as they run away to a little town of Portorosso, enter a competition to get a Vespa, and meet all sorts of friends and enemies along the way.
Plot: Very incomplete. Now, its not bad, it follows through with its idea, and even though as many noted the stakes are low, they are meaningful for the characters themselves enough that it doesn't matter. That said, it brought up MANY ideas that go unexplored. Including as to where did these Sea Monsters came from, why they can turn into humans in the first place and other. Generally speaking, there's a lot of missing information.
Characters: Pretty much lovable scamps all of them. Most of them are pretty straightforward (including the villain) but that actually adds to the charm (including the villain, again, who is all sorts of despicable, it was fun). Generally speaking, I love most of them.
Animation: Gorgeous looking film with a unique cartoony style you wouldn't see in Pixar. It felt more like Sony or Blue Sky's studio Peanuts movie, really crisp and expressive.
All in all, a highly recommend. Sure, do keep in mind that it is more of a "feel good" movie, where you just want to have fun variety, cause it delivers it well, and does not sacrifice good character for it.
Buon divertimento!!!

So...apparently this happened.
Posted 3 years agoApparently ConnerCoon/Rockytheprocy had passed away a week ago. What exactly happened I can’t say too sure, but apparently he got infected with Covid, and even though he seemed to have recovered, and by all means “should have”, things got worse and well, things happened.
I won’t say I know him well, since I am one of those drifters who come in to talk then leave, so I won’t give too much of a speech here. I mainly know him because I followed his art QUITE a bit since 2015. I enjoyed what he posted, though because of how lewd and weird they were, I’d only seldom show that (I try to not talk too much about it). Still, considering how long I followed him, saying nothing would also feel weird, so here’s my message:
My condolences to his friends, family and his partner. May he Rest In Peace.
Take care, everyone.

Soul Review, Makes you introspect
Posted 3 years agoSoul, one of the latest Pixar movies sent straight to Disney+, stars a middle aged teacher in the middle of obtaining his once in a lifetime chance he may never get, and could lead to a happy life he always longed for, until it was taken away by an untimely death.
Admittedly, I've seen quite a bit of discussion about the movie before it was out, and not all of it was good. Most of them touched a variety of concerns about animation, plot, character and what else. The end result I'll say is far better than expected, if you don't mind few bits of oddities here and there.
Animation: This is one of those you need to get used to at first. There's an undeniable amount of effort that went into animation, but most people tend to focus on the fact that it has stereotypically looking Black people, which is, admittedly, hard to not notice. Several tended to jump on the wagon that Disney was being racist, but that thankfully died down quickly.
And honestly, the movie didn't deserve that criticism cause it is Gorgeous, and has a lot of great looking shots. And it does a beautiful job of showcasing the beauty of both afterlife AND life on earth, while keeping this dichotomy between both. The Great Beyond, and The Great Before too, had very minimal use of colors and shapes done in a way to feel soothing to your visual senses, while appearing cute and charming. The real life is far more loud and varied, yet also interesting without putting it into some sort of romanticized filter. The character design play into it too, showcasing how different every person is. It felt like you could touch the movie with your hands (and sadly, meant that movie could've been absolutely a blast in 3D). It also neatly hands itself into its themes and plot.
Plot: The description I gave above doesn't do much justice to the plot, cause rest assured there is in fact more to it. Yes, a black guy dies in a moves, and YES, he turns into a creature. But the movie has a twist that you'd only learn watching it, so I won't spoil it here. But generally speaking, it follows with the idea of living your life perfectly, and encapsulates why being alive is such an wonderful thing. That said, it's climax may feel a touch too down-low, but it fits the tone of the movie. The ending is also one of those things that make you question and debate whether it was a good choice or not. Then again, it is open ended enough that you can make your own assumption.
Characters: Not much to say here, aside that they were decent and fairly good. Each of them work well within the theme of the movie, and the multiple layers that each person has. I did enjoy those 2D authorities quite a bit, being very amoral beings, but not unreasonable.
Conclusion: Worth a watch. While it may feel like it can go over a kid's head, it is a good family movie, and one where all can come with an interesting conclusion.
One man told another,
Imagine, if I could make your greatest wish to come true, what would you like?
The another said,
To make a difference.
The first one laughed.
The other asked him, why did you laugh?
You don't need a wish for that. You already made a difference.

Onward, It gets better on
Posted 3 years agoSo I decided to put a quick review of Disney movie Onward here. One of the latest 3D animated movies by Pixar, this one seems to be one of those "Acclaimed Flop" movies, in some places. That is to say, quite a few relegated this movie as somewhat bad due to its financial failure. Then again, it wasn't really its own fault here, as it came out during the time lockdown were put in place. There were also few other controversies, such as Disney once again claiming their "first new LGBT character" and trying to put a lot of emphasis on the two stars in leading roles (Holland and Pratt).
So what are my thoughts on it?
Worldbuilding: This one is interesting here. The background is basically this, long ago, magical creatures populated the land and they used magic for everything. But then, they discovered technology, realized how much easier their lives become because of it, which leads to magic being abandoned altogether. The movie follows the idea that most creatures slowly realize who they are and their hidden talents (flying, spellcasting, warrioring) as the story goes on, but it really isn't focused so much. The whole thing comes across as an excuse plot, and it shows. The main point of magic here is that the pair realize that they can use magic to bring back their deceased father, only once though, and need to go on an adventure to finish the half-spell they've casted. This isn't bad, all on its own, but it feels like a lot of wasted potential here, especially for the plot inspired by D&D and Lotr.
Plot: You may feel like dozing off in the first 10 minutes. The whole thing about Ian (young brother) feeling awkward fitting in and trying to deal with Barley (older brother), who is an embarrassing freeloader, may feel rather tired and cliché. And it kinda is. The whole set up is extremely obvious. Then it begins the adventure - and THEN the story goes up from here. While I mentioned how the worldbuilding feels like an excuse, that doesn't mean they don't utilize it well, as everything is made exactly with properly building everything in mind. They go to tavern based on mythical labyrinths, fight fairy biker gangs, end up in a death trap maze, the whole thing becomes more and more exciting as it goes on, and that's great. On top of that, the emotional moments keep on hitting more and more, and the movie becomes rather touching, until it culminates to a pretty superb climax. While not the biggest in terms of the world, it felt big enough for the cast, and the payoff is EXTREMELY satisfying.
Characters: I strangely admit that I found all of the cast likeable. The mother is caring, understanding, yet proactive. Corey the Manticore is goofy yet badass. Their step-father has minimal role, but even he was given a sympathetic portrayal here, despite the earlier beliefs. The brothers though are the emotional core of the story. Sure, they are as different as they can be, but they share the same motivation and sense of adventuring, and while at first they may seem estranged, that bond grows as the movie progresses, and it becomes one of the best sibling relationships I've seen since Big Hero 6. Honestly, the only character I've felt so-so was the deceased father, and even then it made sense as you go by the end.
Presentation: It functioned. That's what I'll say about it. It isn't mind-blowing animation, though there were some creative visual gags.
Overall: 8/10
It may not be everyone's cup of tea, or everyone's top movie. Or perhaps it will be, thanks to its unique message. The story did what it set out to do, and you should go into it with it in mind. Also, it may start slow, but it ends strong.

So, Biden won huh?
Posted 3 years agoHmm, kinda weird thing. Though honestly, I don't mind it much. It's kinda...like a whole new chapter has been made, with new ups and downs.
There are still many, MANY going ons with the election, like confirmed facts that glitches causing a lot of votes to go blue, mismanagements, having ALL of mail-in ballots be only for Biden for some reason, dead people being forced to vote, and other that require a good look. Whoever wins should win fairly. And as foolish and butt hurt Trump will act, he won't go down without a fight, so there'll be fun in that.
What's funnier is that I've already seen people celebrating as if they've slain a dragon or something. Let's wait for two months and see the whole media just shut up and drop any mentions of BLM, ACAB, and anything else they blamed on Trump. And that's if Biden won't somehow croak with Harris taking over, the same lady responsible for many unfair incriminations against black people.
Anyways, ready to see where this will go.

Rock Dog review - It's cute
Posted 3 years agosynopsis: A Chinese-American made studio, by Mandoo Pictures and Huayi Brothers, comes a story loosely, key word here, based on the book of the same name.
It follows Bodi, a Tibetan Mastiff and one of many in the line to protect the goat village from vicious wolves after his father. However, finding that his aptitude to music is better than to fighting, the young doggie sets out to try and get in touch with his biggest inspiration, Angus Scattergood, a rock legend in the middle of writing his next single. Can he realize his dream of becoming a Rock Dog?
Can this movie be a bit more cliche? Actually, let me start with good stuff, spoiler free as much as I could.
Animation: Really not that bad! Some people equated it with Norm of the North for some odd reason, even though majority of the animation is solid. Sure, most of the time, there is the feeling of lower budget, but that movie literally couldn't do texture correctly. It also shined MUCH better in comedic department, which is good. (Apparently the studio in charge of animating it never mentioned the movie in their resume, huh).
Characters: They were all likeable, including villains. The main character is good, if bland, and others like Angus, his father, the future band ages all have something likeable about them. Even smaller side characters are fun, the goat villagers especially were great. And yes, I have also enjoyed the extremely "wink to the camera" narrator, I think it's just his voice. That said, I dunno if the movie did properly utilized them, to which I am now going with the negatives.
Plot: HOO BOY! Anyways, while it is comprehensible, this thing is far from focused and organized. Wolves, who are kinda in a mafia yet have employer benefits, need to hunt goats, for some reason? Dad wanted to ban music, which all it did is lengthen the first act unnecessarily. And by the time they eatablish the relationship between Bodi and Angus, which should've been the best part of the movie due to their contrast, we've already reached an hour mark! And the movie is ONE AND HALF HOUR LONG! Then the climax came out of nowhere, and gave nothing. Then...
Settings: suffered quite a bit due to previous point. While I don't mind too much inconsistencies, I do feel like a lot of worldbuilding went to waste. Plus, time we spent on the city was too minimal to make it feel impactful. Generally speaking, the movie doesn't feel impactful at all.
Overall: It's NOT a bad movie. But it is fairly flawed, and would better work as something to put on for a child you babysit. Nothing new, not much interesting, and it kinda barely focused on the music (I mainly remember two tracks it did). So yeah.
Apparently they are making a sequel. Here's hoping they bring that potential out.

Plague rat
Posted 3 years agoSo, let me just vent here cause this has been most frustrating series of events and now was made even worse thanks to mandatory masks and people going "PLAGUE RATS PLAGUE RATS PLAGUE RATS" like you don't realize how friggin terrible you sound.
Ever since Corona started, the main goal has been flattening the curve. It has been flattened now, but people began talking about reducing the cases. That is impossible, because the point of the virus like this is that you will encounter newer cases, and you need to be prepared for it, you CANT get rid of it. At least not anytime soon. The best thing to hope is to get crowd immunity. (Yes there is a fear of reinfections. But these hasn't been proven beyond anecdotal. The testing has been shown to be faulty and some cases are just improper interpretations.)
Funny enough, the situation never really changed that much. Remember how earlier I said you have lower chance of dying to Covid? Same here. Yeah, news talk about new cases all of the time, but that gives them clicks. The death rate has been going down, enough that CDC stopped referring to it as an Epidemic.
Now for the masks, things that are theoretically useful, but aren't really based on professional opinions, but promoted by doctors cause kinda helped with lowering cases. Now, why would people not wear them?
- Job requirements get in the way (Physical works requires lots of breathing, service and communication can muffle words, hazardous workplace like kitchen or welding table)
- Physical conditions (some people reported fainting due to heavy breathing; I tend to take it off frequently cause of how much I feel sleepy)
- Useless (having a beard takes away any use of it)
- Unhygienic (you gotta clean it a lot, so you can't rely on onetime ones; breathing carbon dioxide all the time is unhealthy as fuck)
- Just plain don't want to (principle or otherwise)
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind wearing a mask in public spaces. But if I hear someone call me or someone else a Plague Rat, I have all the right to call them Live Sheep, ready for their masters to decide how should they live and how long they should live. And be happy to be sacrificed for the greater good of making their master's tush feel nicer.

Corona virus....
Posted 4 years agoLet's get this out of the way - This is not an outbreak that will threaten our civilization as we know it, but it isn't just some flu to be shaken off. People as of late have been getting very "panicky" over this one virus and I am getting sick of it, but I am not saying we shouldn't concern ourselves, just that, lets act more rationally.
Number 1:
You don't need stacks of toilet paper. It's a respiratory disease, diarrhea is not part of it. Besides, you can clean your ass in the shower, if you know what I'm saying.
Number 2:
Just follow proper hygiene people. Yes, 14 day gestation period and all that, but the influenza has 7 day period and is less discriminatory. Wash your hands, cough into elbows etc.
Number 3:
If you do get sick, just have Advil, Tylenol and Dayquill/Niquill ready, drink lots of water and rest. This literally all you need, common over-the-counter prescription and taking care of yourself. You can look it up, but unless the effects are that bad for you, you aren't likely gonna need to see a doctor.
Number 4:
The recovery rate to fatality is high. You heard how many got sick, but not much how many recovered. According to some perusing, it was around 60,000 recovered for every 4,000 deaths. Another showed ratio of 91:9.
You're likely just power through it like with common cold.
Number 5:
The younger you are, the better chances. Seriously, most of the kids under 18 bounced back within days after getting sick.
All in all, be safe and be smart.

"What if Zootopia was dark an angsty?"
In a world brim with animals having higher intellect, you may be led to believe that the society can still be civil. And yet, getting rid of your instincts proved to be much harder, and in this setting, it can be downright terrifying.
A young man was mauled to death in his school, and it being a clear print of the predator, leaves everyone in disarray. That is except for Legosi, a young great, gray wolf, who despite his intimidating looks, is a rather shy man who wants to live his life in peace. Being part of Drama Club, he was tasked with preparing for celebration of the "bond" between prey and predators. That said, things get difficult, when he comes in contact a certain bunny named Haru.
Let's just say, you can teach dogs tricks, but you damn can't teach wolfs to behave...

Posted 4 years agoI tend to use iOS device only for following any furry content, and suddenly Twitter won't allow to load any images anymore. Like at all.
Apparently this has been happening since April, but I just got that last week. Now I am less interested in getting Twitter. Could have been better if it hey allowed the same thing they have on deck stop version and let people slide through pictures!

Posted 4 years agoYou may proceed to celebrate me below. Or write whatever the hey you want cause it's all fun anyways? ;)
Also also, I'll be gone for the next week. The other place could have WiFi but we'll see. I'll try to make as many chapters as possible.
Also, do you guys think it's okay for me to start on my third story project? Like, I dunno, that one I wanted to do for a long time, but I felt like I needed to prepare before beginning it. Anyways, great things to all of you my followers and shadow watchers!

Anyone here has a Deviant art account?

Lion King 2019 - A wonderfully nostalgic Tech Demo
Posted 4 years agoSo I just watched Lion King yesterday and...
There were issues.
Okay, now before I go bashing this movie just like about 90% of the critics did, let's start with the positives. In four parts:
Presentation: The new technology was reused from Jungle Book movie and it looks amazing. Despite knowing in the back of my head that it is CGI, the amount of detail and polish is so well done that I could easily imagine everything to be based in real life. And it helps that there were no real actors this time, meaning the world never felt like it was fake.
Plot: While a retread, there were several elements and additions that I found to be enjoyable, like additions of other animals in Hakuna Matata falls, Nala's time during Scar's reign, a twist of Shenzi as the leader, quite few of them gave much needed background to the story.
Characters: For the most part, they were recreated faithfully, and most of them were okay, but I found Zazu, Timon and Pumbaa to be the most entertaining and best parts, hands down. Scar's new VA is also pretty great at his role, and having James Earl Jones back was a lovely treat.
Sound and Music: Even after all of these years, the music still sounds as great as ever, and the new revitalized mix was great to hear in theatres.
So yeah, there were things to be happy about.
Now onto negatives, and ooh boy, do I have SOME things to say here.
Presentation: In the original, the film started in complete darkness, a small light flickers and slowly the rising sun illuminates the theater (NAAAAAAAAHHH). In the remake instead, we have a lingering shot of a random branch, colors muted and primarily gray, somewhere in Africa. As if on cue, sun rises then the chorus starts.
This is a common problem here. The majority of the shots, if they are supposed to be a shot-for-shot, pale in comparison due to their emphasis on realism, losing visual-to-emotional clarity that hand-drawn animation had. Nothing ever looked as pretty, looked as investing and most of the memorable shots in the original lost its punches and became lifeless flailing of the paws. The newer shots they made were better, but all it means is that they couldn't bring back what made original great.
Plot: HUGE pacing problems. People noted that it felt too long, while I felt that it was too fast. Why? Because most of the scenes which original gave time to breathe go way too fast, and all of the feast of the movie instead of pacing it properly, they filleted it with pointless things. Actually, they weren't pointless, I know, they were made to show off technology. Why else did we need this several minute focus on the mouse from the beginning, Simba playing with random bugs and piece of his hair taking a long, very epic road to Rafiki. This was definitely more important than pacing for example, Mufasa's and Simba's bonding moments, focus on Nala's happiness for finding Simba again and their ensuing love plus break up (I am not kidding when I say everything happened in five minutes, like:
-Don't eat them! Wait Nala?
- Simba! You're alive!
- Hey, meet my friends.
- You don't know how long I've waited to see you...
- *nuzzle nuzzle* Can't you feel the love this...afternoon!? Ugh!!!
- You need to come back!
- No
- You are not Simba I remember!
- Fine *leaves*
That was the actual speed of the whole scene, I am not kidding!)
And speaking of newer scenes, Shenzi and Nala have rivalry! Did it start from somewhere? No, not really. Shenzi actually had more beef with Mufasa, then with Sarabi. It felt rushed and as if they were marking checkpoints instead of progressing. Speaking off...
Characters: Voicework was good, but majority miscast and it felt lifeless. Look, I know people harp on the lack of expression as a big turn off, and I somewhat agree, but I found no problems burning majority of the scenes! Except when they needed to emote! Remember when Simba cried during Mufasa's death? Well here's the thing, I found the kid who voiced selling it REALLY well, like, I can hear him cry his heart out and feeling it. But then I look at the screen, and it's that same blank cat expression, no focus on the body or change in the face, no different than looking at a roomba replaying lines off of Titanic. And speaking of reading lines, there's a reason I found Timon and Pumbaa particularly funny. They were the only ones something new to do with the material. The rest had to read original line and they fell flat. Chiweter Ejiofor, Scar'e new VA, had different approach to Scar, so when he had to read the lines originally for Jeremy Irons, they felt wrong and out of character. Donald Glover I could tell was excited to play Simba (apparently he loved the movie since young age, and memorized the lyrics) and it was obvious, but nothing from him was given to Simba, he ended up less interesting than Matthew Broderick, unfortunately. Shenzi, despite the change, was underutilized also. Beyoncé is there to get more tickets and sing.
Music: All sounded great, but again, a retread, rather buy the soundtrack. The numbers in the movie were, as noted in presentation, less memorable, even with fresh set of eyes watching it. "Spirits" is an okay new Beyoncé single.
Overall, don't watch it in theatres, rent it. You'd do better just researching the original, and even if the new look is impressive, give two to three years, and it will become obsolete. They wasted a lot of money on technology, but spent no attention to the story and character, and despite everyone's efforts, it was ultimately wasted. Really sad for the crew, since many did try. But it was exactly as most feared a soulless cashgrab with little to offer something new.

Small update
Posted 4 years agoHello!
So, thinking on it, I'm just gonna go ahead and make the next chapter for Remember. That said, I made a small update to the last revised chapter!
