𝔚hat ends in tragedy must begin with love. And so it did. The forbidden love of a Licorne princess
turned queen and the great White Stag of Britannia. For a thousand years, the Licorne line carried
with it incredible magic, respected and revered by all. Collectors of knowledge, the Licorne royals
built the Great Library, home to scrolls, tomes & treasure beyond count. A matriarchy, the Licornes
were a race of majestic queens, powerful and beautiful; Belle's mother was next in line to inherit
the throne. The summer before her coronation, the princess encountered a mysterious, ancient male
in the forest beyond her mountain home. What she did not know was that her lover was the lost stag
king of the Hart line, once thought lost entirely to the world. But when their lips met, the world melted
away & there was nothing but a burning passion hot enough to burn an empire to cinders. They bore a
single daughter. She returned to the Licorne palace to relinquish her title to one of her sisters and live
a normal life, but when she returned...
ℜuin. Wanton death & destruction. Blood ran red in the streets of the once proud Licorne city. Envious
of the Licorne magic and wealth, the Eastern Drakes had attacked. The Licorne queen appeared at the
battlefront to fight with her people against the conquering race of fire breathers. It was only through
betrayal and treachery did the Drakes win. They murdered the queen. Her mother and sisters were dead.
And the stags of Britannia helped the enemy commit the atrocity. Alone. She held command to kept her
people together & fighting as long as she could for a few years. Licornes were hunted. Licorne hooves,
horns, hair, tears and blood all held tremendous magical power. One by one the Licornes faded, and the
world's magic began to die as well. It was something the Drakes had not foreseen until it was too late.
But their bloody task was done, save for the last queen in her snow-covered palace. There was power in
blood. It was well-known that no Licorne could be killed so long as she stayed in the enchanted woodlands
around the snowy mountain. They would have to lure her out to destroy her. The drakes spread gossip in
the nearby towns of living Licornes held captive somewhere in the West. And when the queen, too noble,
too pure to resist left the barrier - they captured & killed her. In her death throes, Belle's mother cast a
terrible, terrible curse on the Drakes and all who sided with them.
𝔅ut they knew nothing of the small child with eyes like wine and jewels, hair like sunshine and
royal blood in her veins. They knew nothing of the queen's daughter. They knew nothing of the
little princess, kept safe and secret, who in turn carried with her the last Licorne magic...and
the key to end the curse. The last heir. The Hart'licorne.

𝔅elle knew a time of happiness. Her mother's voice, smooth and rich, singing her to sleep. Cooks
slipping the precocious little Licorne princess blackberry tarts. Handsome guards who swore to lay
down their lives and spill blood to defend her, would hold the precocious girl on their shoulders and
play-joust. Mountains of fairytale books with brilliant pictures awaiting her on rainy days. Tight-laced
governesses who taught her astronomy, geography, music, art and foreign tongues from faraway
lands gently reprimanding the purple-eyed princess when her attention wandered away to storybook
worlds in her imagination. Nannies who dressed her in lace and pulled her hair up into silk ribbons,
carefully combing her hair into the twin forelocks that only those of royal blood wore. Playing in the
gardens full of the Bleeding Heart flowers that decorated the windows and sigils of the Licorne house.
Hot tea and warm fireplaces and a palace of her people who cherished her. Equal parts playful and
pure-hearted, the young princess didn't fail to capture the heart of any who met her.
𝔗hey began to disappear one by one. War's icy fingers held the Licorne palace in its clutches. Everyone
Belle loved began to leave. The guards were called away to the frontlines, cooks became battlefield nurses.
The palace, carved into the mountainside, frosted with snow like sugar, filled with gold and silk and great
pearl statues of Licorne queens from ages past, grew quieter and quieter. Laughter and music did not flow
from the Great Hall. Ale tankards did not clang joyously as warriors returned. Fewer and fewer returned,
until the lonely sound of her small hooves echoed in the castle hollowed out by war. Like a rose blooming
in a blighted garden, the princess grew from a pretty girl into a rare beauty.

𝔚here Licorne mares were tall and willowy, Belle was dainty, with wide hips & petite breasts. Smaller
curvier and with larger ears and a thick doe tail and the fawn freckles on her hips and shoulders she never
grew out of. Hair like sunlight through a glass of honey and eyes like glittering amethyst. Without friends,
without first-loves or family, she cared nothing for her own strange hybrid beauty, only that it reminded
her of a father her mother never spoke of. The once laughing girl became shy and withdrawn, escaping
the blood and death around her in her fairytales & romances, some of which she began to write herself.
Quiet tears spilled down her cheeks at night for her fallen people and conquered kingdom. The final blow
came when her mother came to her late one night on her 19th birthday. And on that night, she knew
why it was the Licorne house's coat-of-arms bore the Bleeding Heart flower. And when she learns of her
mother's death...Such is the loss she will not be able to bear. Not alone.
𝔇ays pass. Ivy crawls up over the palace carved into the mountain. Slices of light and sky are visible
through the cracks and broken places, verdant berry brambles intrude on the quiet of the palace ruins.
A small brook passes through the Great Hall, the gentle running water the only sound save for the noise
of birds and wildlife that now live in the lower parts of the the stronghold, drawn to the magic of the one
living soul who is left in the Licorne castle. In the tallest tower, the delicate heir keeps a fire going in her
room. Her childhood room. The bed is small enough for a girl, but fits the small female well enough. Piles
of books gather in the corners. Colorful scraps of silk hang from the window, where Belle spends her days
looking out at the forest who's magic protects her. And imprisons her. A soft, furry tabby cat yawns in the
corner, Buttermilk - her only companion in the endless quiet. There is flour in the great kitchens, and what
the castle does not have, the little Hartl'icorne gathers from the forest, its animals & flowers in love with
her, yielding its honey and berries graciously. Alone. She is so alone. It aches in her bones, this loneliness.
The princess runs the silky quill against her lush lower lip and looks out, past the forest, past the pure snow
where other lands and adventures beckon her...
