The bus was leaving the stop after calling out its next destination. Archie’s gaze followed the passengers that were leaving, each one looked as bored as they were from their lives, with only a few acting anxious at the same time. Archie looked at these people with morbid sense of curiosity, wishing to see exactly what led them to see their world this way.
Regardless, he had to stop and move away from the crowd that was dispersing or lining up for the next ride. The young “thing” went as far away as he could, until he could see Artemis talking to his phone as relaxed as one could. Archie looked around as much as he could to see all of the people within the main bus station.
Few stood out to him: A man wearing an elaborate suit despite his grizzly appearance of his muzzle, he definitely looked like he had “dirty hands” with him, figuratively speaking; Then he noticed a young woman cooing a baby, ironically since she did not look that old herself; There was a young man wearing a cap and t-shirt with a band on it, perhaps from the 90s (Archie could not remember their name). Suddenly, the young man stared back to Archie, causing him to discontinue with his musings and simply wait for Artemis to finish speaking to his phone.
Eavesdropping to the latter’s conversation, Archie figured out quickly that he was speaking to his secretary.
“…yeah, yeah, yeah, just sign that meeting at the same time, I’ll figure something out. And don’t forget to send me those files tomorrow.” Artemis clicked the phone off without saying goodbye. A bad habit of his.
“I’ve already sent him the “bye” message.” Artemis waved this off.
“Don’t you think you putting a bit too much workload on the poor guy?” Archie asked as she noticed the cat moving closer to a bus stop. He ends up standing near the young man with cap and t-shirt, who also happened to be carrying a bean bag with him in blue and white color.
“He wants it that way himself.” Artemis retorted and the bus was already arriving to their spot. As Archie followed the cat, she noticed that she was being eyed by someone. She could easily tell when that happens. But when she looked around, there was no one but that guy with the t-shirt, who by the way happens to be a monkey.
“This world is made of animal-people” Artemis mused out loud, confusing poor Archie, but she simply opted to just take a seat next to him.
The bus took off, much faster than the last one, considering there weren’t many people boarding it aside the two and that young monkey man. Archie glanced outside of her window, watching once again people walking about anxiously, eagerly, depressedly or simply with no energy at all. How curious this all leaves one to be.
“So which powers did you bargain this time?” Archie asked, as they slowly moved away from the station bustling full of people to an empty road that may perhaps be as such for a long while. Perhaps striking a conversation with someone as busy as Artemis could be of use. They haven’t really spoken that much as of late anyways.
“Teleportation (obviously), immediate clairvoyance, creating origami, freezing water solid, strength to move planets, hyper-knowledge of technology and bending time.” Artemis listed without looking up from his phone.
“Hold on, you said you will have two people at the same time?”
“Four. And also, limited time duplication I still have.” Artemis send the message through the phone.
“So, who are we going to?”
“Old friends of mine.” Artemis tone was nonchalant. Archie smiled a bit and tried to peek onto cat’s phone. He found hundreds of names being pushed away by Artemis’s finger, with few of them being quickly deleted without a second thought. Already Archie was feeling bored and slumped back to his seat.
He then once again felt himself being watched. Probed from behind as if to be observed, taken apart and put back together without leaving a trace. Archie looked around once again, but found the no one in the empty bus aside from that young man, who was staring with severe intensity into the nothingness that was behind his window.
He noticed..?
Archie returned back to his seat. This felt weird. Perhaps he should talk to that man one time in the future.
