Happy Halloween!!!!!! Belated as it is.

“Norm, Your shift is up!”
The monkey finished with his phone and put on the work cap. As he made his way out of the kitchen and into the front, he met his supervisor Agatha, a lioness with green mane. He gave her a sign that he is ready to head out and was about to proceed, when she stopped him at the doorstep. Her paw was gentle when she held him in place and her gaze unaggressive.
“Are you sure you are feeling alright?” Came out from her. There was a sense of genuine concern from her, something he didn’t consider getting from today.
“I’m fine Miss!” Norm stated with a frank, chipper tone. She then let him go then, wishing him luck on the way.
Truth be told, he is still rather not over the other day’s event. Believe it or not, he was ready to swear off ever talking to any women in his life (And hey, why not? It’s not gonna be hard for him to do long-term). The monstrous sight gave him nightmares and held him captive to his room for three days. But, since life still carried on, he was able to leave again soon enough. How he was able to get over that even surprises him, but he seems to be back on his feet no problem for most of the day. Perhaps pretending that this didn’t really happen to him, but someone else, in a dream, helped.
Now out on the front, he immediately assumed the cashier post next to another worker, a young bunny lady. Finding her dealing with a small line of five, he called for few people to come over to him. Two of them paid attention to him and did so, and both were peculiar.
One of them happened to be Archie, no doubt likely here to check up on him since he had finally left his building. The other one was a man with a skull for a head. Norm couldn’t help but keeping eyeing on it. He hadn’t been working here for long, so he might not have seen him before, but the costume was well made. Then he heard a pair of kids from a nearby table yell “Look at that costume!” rudely, making Norm realize that yes, it was likely a costume. Not wanting to seem rude, he stopped his staring and proceeded to take order.
“What would like drink sir?”
The man ordered for dark coffee, his voice was deep but relaxed while answering.
“Coming right up!” He said after punching numbers in.
The man thanked him and then moved to sit at the place by the front. Afterwards, Archie came to Norm.
“Hey there!” He, this time, said in a happily. “How are you feeling? It’s been a while.”
“Yeah, sure was. I’m hanging in there ok. You here to order?”
“Yeah, and also to hand you this, since I got to talk to you again!”
Archie brought out what looked to be a small envelope. He could see from the opening on the side that it was dollar bills.
“Ah right, the reason why I agreed to come with you.” He grabbed it from his friend and inspected the insides. There was about eight-hundred dollars in it, exactly the price he asked for.
“I’m pretty sure Artemis gave the exact number promised.”
“Yeah.” Norm placed it away. “Your order?”
“Just green tea!” Norm punched it in, as Archie then asked, “How’s with you house search?”
“Yeah, the house. The reason I needed money.” The monkey buried his face in his hands.
He forgot.
“You okay?”
“I’m fine. Just an idiot.” He could justify it by saying staying in his room for three days was needed. He still had to find new place to rent, once the other gets close in a day or two. “I guess I’ll have to leave early. You don’t think Ay would mind?”
“Oh, mind what pretty one?” Ay, his tall monkey of a boss, suddenly reared himself into their conversation. “Is something the matter?”
Norm was about to say something, but decided against it. His boss was wearing an emerald gown with a purple belt matching his hair color, a green top hat with a lucky clover on the side, striped socks and elf-shoes with buckles. His face was also green in-color and his eyes changed to red.
“Nothing, just needed to leave early.” Norm then turned to his monitor, while Archie suddenly asked:
“Why do you..?” Look like an Irish version of Wicked Monkey Queen of the West?
“Oh, you noticed?” Ay then twirled while picking the side of his dress proudly. “Say, have you heard about Saint Patrick’s Day?”
“Um…I think?”
“Alright, now, tell me, what does Saint Patrick and Halloween have in common?”
Archie shrugged her shoulders.
“They are both Celtic Holidays! I just learned about it. And you know what? I decided that tomorrow morning, we are gonna recolor everything in bright green and orange to make a two-fold celebration of both Saint Patrick’s and Halloween, all at the same time!”
“…Why do you want to celebrate Saint Patrick’s, sir?” Norm asked. “I mean, Halloween I get but-“
“Because I seriously can’t believe I never get to celebrate it for over four years being here! And I won’t stand for it, so tomorrow on-“
“There won’t be Saint Patrick.” It was Graysen, the manager and one of Ay’s partners.
“Oh, c’mon Darling, I’m just gonna…”
“Only one holiday, and it’s Halloween. Cage is already in charge of repainting and preparing the stage for the Halloween Bash, and you have already sold all of the tickets out. We don’t need any other thing to be added.”
Ay suddenly started puffing his cheeks.
“But I want to have Saint Patrick!”
“Next year!”
“But that’s so long!”
“Ay, come with me.” The smaller gorilla pulled Ay by his arm as if the latter was his kid. He excused himself and soon, both were away from public eye. They passed by Cage, another one of Ay’s partners, a grey wolfess with flat long hair, who went behind curtains of the stage. Last Norm seen her, she was preparing to hang the sign “HALLOWEEN BASH” for later.
“Hey Norm?” Archie was leaning over. “If you have trouble with the house, I can always find you another place.”
“Another?” Then Norm suddenly thought about living with the duo, and immediately about Tan’s face. He suddenly felt heat in his face, and began stuttering. “You know what, no, you don’t have to.”
“Really? I mean, I know a couple that are looking to get a roommate to pay off for the year.”
“…Tan and Damira are looking for..?”
“Huh? No, other ones!”
This caught Norm’s attention.
“Wait, do you mean?”
“I know both of them, not far from here. They have just engaged and are looking to maybe have a third person to pay off their house together with. Their space is pretty big and you don’t need to pay much, according to them.”
Well, that sounded enticing. However, while Norm appreciated the news, he also felt just a tad bit suspicious. Perhaps it’s paranoia, but this isn’t the first time he had to deal with what sounded like an innocuous thing from Archie. And almost always, it ended up totally weird.
…Then again, why not take a look? Archie was made to befriend random people whenever he wants to, so maybe they were fine?.
Shaking his head at himself, Norm then answered:
“Alright, let’s.”
“Great!”
Cage then suddenly passed by both of them and on to greet the skull guy from before. He was still sitting, and was just about to drink his coffee.
“Anything on special effects?” She said bluntly.
“They’ll be here by this afternoon.” He assured her in his deep voice. “By the by, I-“
“Thanks.” She cut him off and went away before he could put another word in, only ending with as she went away, “Nice hat.”
Hat?
Norm looked again. The main was wearing a red and black suit, and his head bore the demonic looking skull and black-beady eyes. Yet, there was no hat, oddly enough.
“Something wrong?” Archie wondered.
“Is he wearing a hat?”
This made his “friend’s” eyebrows furrow, as she looked to the person and back at him.
“…You can see the real him? Interesting…”
Not again.
There was a shiver going down his spine again. He looked to the skull-faced man, who slowly turned to Norm and cocked his head. There was something akin to a smile forming on its face.
Norm sighed.
Hopefully, this won’t become a habit, from now on.
