This is bad. I’m getting the suspicion that he’s going to try to make her look like like someone else. Either from his past or who he fantasizes about. If that’s his plan, this is going to be very bad! :(
Nah nothing like that. He just wants her to get in line with everyone else really.
I really hope that’s all it is. Everything about that guy is creepy. :(
Well, it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, but I still wanna slam Martellus's head into a wall over and over until he forgets what math is.
Remember that this is just a comic. It's fiction.
And that your words could affect the PERSON who owns Marellis.
Don't overdo it.
And that your words could affect the PERSON who owns Marellis.

Right right fair enough. I want to slam the head of the Martellus WHO IS SPECIFICALLY THE CHARACTER IN THIS COMIC AND STAR'S CO WHO IS CURRENTLY BLACKMAILING HER into a wall until etc etc. >_>
<_< I'm sure that the person who actually owns the character is a very lovely person. The one I am talking about is SPECIFICALLY the blue furred guy who works in the UK Military in this particular storyline!

That's obviously your choice but it will get better....skip the next thrr pages and things will be moving in a more positive direction again ok
Nah, your story is perfectly fine. I will catch up.
Just.. Bad bad timing and you kinda manage to hit SO BLOODY MANY LITTLE STITCHES I had in either a very similar or the same way in various situations, it's scary!

Aah, I don't wail about weird past to my idols XD
Imagine if every fan would do that, you wouldn't be able to do any art XD
No, it's just the way I was pushed into conform behavior/appearance which was quite.. Similar. More violent, but still.

Or maybe he wants her to dye her hair back to its natural color to make her look more like her toddler self.
That's what I was thinking. Star's bright, colorful hair could be seen as her acting out, and he wants to punish her by changing her hair back to normal.
That only makes sense if he knew what her hair looked like before though. Honestly this whole thing comes off more as the Sarge trying to be more playful than malicious. Even back at the party after Star gave him a piece of her mind instead of yelling at her he recollected himself and tried to play it off as nothing. It doesn't seem like he's trying to be mean but is in his own "unintentional way" perhaps in reality he wants to be the caretaker to someone like Star but he's just going about it wrong.
The guy is blackmailing her, and he said it was to keep her controled since the begining of the whole thing. Everybody seems to know that Star dye her hair as a personal choice, as a way to represent her personality... and he wants to get rid of that, he wants to take out one of her personality traits. I asume her pink dyed hair is not just an aestetic thing, but a symbol of freedom and authonomy for herself, like saying "this is me, no mater what my father or anybody may say" (she was not okey with pink in general in the outside, but dyed it pink anyways, so i find it like a really personal and inner thing), And he's tryng to make her resign that part of herself just because he order to... because he's his superior and can control her life. u.u
I actually think it has to do with remembering her lost brother.
He had pink hair in one panel.

it could be that too. Still, something VERY important for her. u.u
Show-up for work with a crew-cut/'High-and-Tight'.
Defiance with attitude!

As much as i hate it to admit it, it does make sense. There is a uniform code in every branch of the military and to break that appearance code could result in disciplinary action. So in that sense Sarge is not out of line on this one. :( he could have done worse and given her a letter of correction/reprimand on her appearance.
Valid point made.
I'm not buying that as being his intent, given no prior reference to his/Shine's setting (world-building), of her getting into trouble for the coloration of her own hair (yes, IRL that would never fly in the military).
That could certainly be his valid 'Excuse' for giving her the dye, however. (sneaky bastard that he is)

*wonders how you can twist thisso the hair color ends up on Sarge instead*
Firstly, I thought Marellis was caring in his own way. But now, I know he is just evil.
*hugs* dont worry it'll be okay but yeah Stars hair is very much part of her so I...must admit drawing this does make me feel a bit..full of dread. but it'll be alright there is a plan
It just took me back to cutting my hair to try and get work. It was so long... I could put it in pigtails and I was experimenting. Suddenly it was over. I shut down any real life girlie stuff and just gave up. I have to wonder if I would've admitted to myself sooner if I hadn't had to cut it.
*hugs* sometimes we have to do what we have to do to get through then next checkpoint, life can really be a bitch at points and it super sucks. im glad you're in a better place now
Thank you so so so much, and as much as crying sucks... i needed this to help me see a little bit more of me.
Well, the color is one thing, but there was no stipulation about the hairstyle, right...?
Brown-hiared Super Sayan Star, go!
Brown-hiared Super Sayan Star, go!
he also only said to use it, I don't think he said how much. ...or where. And this is a furry we're talking about here. Hair dye is also just fur dye.
...on that note how the heck did star get her hair to not bleed color into her fur when she showers anyway
...on that note how the heck did star get her hair to not bleed color into her fur when she showers anyway
Maybe hair dyes in this universe have a special fixative that gets put on the hair after dying it?
I may or may not have laughed a bit too much at the "Vidal Baboon" brand name.
Maybe...
Maybe...
Glad someone got it LOL now comes in browny brown and reddy red.
Reddy Red is formulated to bring out the reddish red on your buttock fur. Not to be used on hair.
I remember "Vidal Sasoon". Haven't seen one of those commercial in years though. Their slogan was "If you don't look good, we don't look good." Ah, nostalgia!
Dont worry, when your puns get boos that's when you know you're doing it right x3

but on the third I noticed it's NY and not MY :/

Im just playing devils advocate but I think one reason he’s doing this is because she’s in the army and not giving him respect I’m not defending him it’s just that everyone’s the hero of there own story
Oh, absolutely that's why he's doing it. He wants control and is personally offended that he doesn't get to rule over her.
Well I’m playing devils advocate but maybe he thinks star acting normally like being late and stuff is disrespectful
Oh, it absolutely is! Star clearly has issues with authority, likely due to how overbearing her father was growing up. She definitely needs to shape up with that. But this is the absolutely wrong way of going about it.
Same way any other boss would. Talk to her privately, discipline actions as necessary. And if she doesn't shape up, then possibly dismissal. May or may not work, of course. But this isn't even about the professional aspect for him; just his desire to control IMO.
That's it I'mma calling Tessa, Marty and Manda. They can deal with Marellis.
i saw it coming but it hurts more than i thought it would >(v;n;) sad fish
Wow, that hit like a tonne of bricks.
You're a fantastic visual story teller

Does he know what her natural colour is, or is he just guessing? Are there people in this universe who have natural pink hair?
Also… I've had to dye my hair brown (the 4-week stuff) over cyan when preparing for a job interview years ago, and it ended up a real mess; went a kind of navy blue that faded to awful uneven bruise-colours over the course of 6 months, and looked a real mess until I gave up and cut it off.
Really hope Star will have better luck.

Most likely faded too a light pink we see and she hasn't gotten around to refreshing the dye job.
Oh god kink thoughts like these can be the worst or the best depending on the time they come that's for sure
I suspected the book maybe a reference to Vidal Sassoon. Not sure what the contents of the book are or why Marrelis gave that kind of book. Perhaps he's marked certain passages in the book for her to read.
It's a short book, sure. But it doesn't change the fact that the author's deftly woven narrative really does carry the imagination. One can practically smell the hazelnut and lavender extracts as they evoke fine notes of aromaticity.
And of course, the masterwork illustration, placed with the utmost care upon the front and centre, where it attracts the reader's eye before anything else. The windy locks of hair tell a story all on their own, allowing us to delve deeply into the otherwise mysterious, unknowable story of the figure presented at the heart of the image, breaking down the illusion between reality and the narrative of the work.
The knowledge they impart in the (perhaps drier, but no less important) list section is a crucial part of the story, letting the reader know the composition, allowing them to appreciate everything to an even higher level by connecting back to the illustration, letting one see firsthand how such basic ingredients could come together in such a way as to create such a powerful transformation.
But - and this is a hotly-debated topic in the literary world - the fact that the book, this almost divinely inspired work, is somehow forced onto a single page, which is then shaped into a container within which a genuine sample of the substance that plays such an important role in the work can be found; really does illustrate in no uncertain terms the true materialistic nature of the world. After all, no one would ever spend their money to buy the work on it's own, for they do not value it in this world where art is dead. Intead, the author must include this bottle of transformative ichor as a bribe of sorts, the necessary toll that must be paid to ensure that the audience will see enough value in it to actually invest. And when they finally do, they will see what fools they have been. Illuminated by the author's literary genius and unparalleled wit, they will see the folly of their needing such trivial incentives, and they will say to themselves: "Never Again"...

Dear god I spent way more time on this than I should have.
LOL Have an internet cookie to compensate for your time its only got one chocolate chip so its healthy
Mmm, tasty!
Does it count if the single chocolate chip is like, REALLY BIG?
Does it count if the single chocolate chip is like, REALLY BIG?
That's a good question...Hmmm. I would like to think ONE of anything is okay to eat. like cutting back on quantity of sweets if you have just ONE chocolate bar once in a while..but that chocolate bar weighs a kilo does that still count as being good. I think probably...yes
Or a bottle of whisky, even (yes, that is a real bottle, full of real 14 year aged vintage).
Ive been to Tomintoul (pronounced tom-in-tal) to do some fossil hunting I cant imagine how much that bottle must have cost LOL
Apparently the bottle got £15 000 at auction. The same article also told me that it contains about 150 regular bottles worth of whisky inside. One can only imagine a celebration worthy of opening it up.
This one comment has made wading through the oceans of junk worth it both now and retroactively.
Is a company that produces hair care products - in this case, apparently a brown fur dye...
Oof somehow this is extra worse than any baby stuff since this will leave not only a mental mark but a physical one if she goes through with it :(
Is it weird that this seems almost worse than the other stuff he's made Star do? I seem to recall some mention of Marellis having an issue with Star's hair being dyed, so this is clearly just him being really damn petty.
yeah both me and Stormy (marellis's owner) have discussed how we expect the backlash to this page to be much worse than anything else he's done so far.
Probably because the others, if you suffer through it, it's over with. Natural hair dye can stay for a long time. He'll be able to get pleased at her "compliance" each time he sees her. :C
Figures he'd want her to dye her hair out of that, though this took a slightly different turn that i was thinking would happen XD
Vidal Baboon™s new colour: Browny Brown!

Funnily enough this reminds me of me wanting to dye my hair blue but not being allowed to by my mother. And when she was gone this week I went to several salons to see what it would cost but everyone just told me "we dont do blue its so hard of a color" =/
The kids around here used to use Kool-Aid the drink mix to die there hair blue a few years ago.
I don't know how they did it.
I don't know how they did it.
Blue really is! It can work but it's hard to keep. I just do my hair dyes myself these days. XD
yipes. Is it disipline? Is it fantasy? Is it a power move of control? Find out next time on BabyStar Z!
Looking forward to how Manda and the gang react to the change next time they see her.

Absolutely! I'll be fishing, and I'll think of someone having me play in the grass in a diaper and T-shirt while they fish, or I'll be eating and I'll think about being forced in a high chair.
Yeah quite a few folk called the hair dye. Im surprised so many folk (including star) were surprised
Takes the box and tapes powerful firecrackers around it and lights it* LEG IT SHES GONNA BLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahhh... shoulda figured it was that. I'm kinda glad it's not something else, but at the same time what Marellis got you is unacceptable.
He's pretty hypocritical, wanting everyone to stay in line, but being a weirdo himself.

Huh, not what I expected to be in the box.
Still, everyone is going to notice Star's conspicuously inconspicuous hair.

amma more than happy to be dyed brown.
probably wouldn't even notice.
please be aware, brown will end up on everything!!

Fur dye? I suppose it could be worse, though I do suppose it might shock her friends and relatives...
Oh the jerk, you favorite antagonist Blue Fox gone so far!
Seriously event me didn't seen coming this! He's gonna truly playing with Star for the worst! Can wait the future page on Aout! :)

I also think of kinks at inopportune times lol.
And really? Hair dye? Is Sarge really trying to push the image of how Star looked as a child? But... pink and blonde is a pretty mix...

Probably more get her more in line and obedient. He's complained about her wild hair before.
LOL completely unexpected for us, well done with the suspense xD
I would totally just dye the underside of my hair and say "you didnt specify WHERE I had to do it, I'm just a dumb baby remember?"
As a military fur myself I'm honestly surprised she has been allowed to keep her two toned hair color at all. And based on their conversation it's seems she's been a disruption to the command. While the baby stuff is an extreme I'm honestly feeling as though I cannot blame him for using this to bring her to heel and in line. That is... If he doesn't make her wear diaper stuff and try to humiliate her.
truthfuly in much the same way as anime army charctactes all seem to be allowed blue or pink or crazy whatever hair without repurcussions. the rules here arent as stringently followed as in the real army so id be carful applying rl miltary rules to this particular comic LOL as I doubt star would still have a job at all really. LOL
While we're on the subject of hair color, I read an article a couple of years ago about a girls' school in Japan that required the students to bring a note from their parents or their doctor to prove that their hair color was natural. Can't remember all the details though. It was a while ago. But basically, the school was afraid that allowing dyed hair made the school look too permissive. Apparently, extreme conformity is seen as being prestigious in Japan.
If he needs to use sexual blackmail to bring a subordinate to heel, I think the problems sit more with him than Star. I'm sure in a world where natural hair colors outside the human norm, grooming standards will be different. I mean colors aside Star and Yuri's hair style would be out of regs in any real military i'm aware of.
While it will sting now, imagine how great it's going to feel for Star watching Marellis face the consequences for his actions with her hair back in it's blond/light purple and totally not pink glory? She can be like "I can undo what you did to me, but you can't undo whats happening to you."
my take on this is that Sarge wants you to have that natural hair color to blend in more.
also out of curiosity, does anyone know if the military would permit dyed hair like this? genuinely curious about this

At least in the Marine Corps you could dye your hair if it "looked natural" and wasn't "eccentric." I.e. a naturally raven haired white woman would be ok to dye their hair blonde, but (and not to get too far into a sensitive topic) a black wouldn't wouldn't be ok to do the same.
To apply that to Shine, Star would be ok with say just blonde hair given the tone of her Fur, but certainly not the light-purple gradient. That little braid she does would also be a problem, as would Yuri's long straight hair. All of that being said, in either world if you have an NCO like Marellis in charge of your, even if you are technically within regs they will make your life hell in order to make you to conform to their idea of what the standards should be.

Generally speaking yeah, but the catch is it can't be unnatural looking to the right people. I remember getting stopped at a base store by the Sergeant Major (highest ranking enlisted rank in the Marines) of the highest level unit on base (I.E. he 'outranked' other Sergeants Major) and got called out for my hair. It was fully within regs, but because I have a Vegeta-like widows peak he thought it was eccentric and told me to fix it. Even though per the regulations I wasn't wrong, I still had to correct it. Didn't even need an embarrassing video of me in a pink dress getting my ass spanked.
dang not your hair that's low i would hit that guy before covering mine up star
let me punch him star please i'll make it look like he tripped over a chair
i have no problem becoming an adult to do so then AR back make it look like i just got there
This story really changed course, but still loves it more than before. <3
The reality of the storyline is so good as it almost frightens sometimes.
Congrats on over 300 pages so far ~

Don't change the hair. The Sarge is being a massive dick about things.
For those not in the know, it was revealed on Twitter that Star actually dyes her hair different styles on a regular basis. This likely isn't anything new to her.
why am I actually relieved that its just hair dye? i now realize that her sarge just wants her in compliance with regulations?
I had a strong feeling from the second the the box showed up. Also my brain does that all the time where something innocent gives me a new fantasy at the most inopportune time.
I was chatting with a friend where one time as a child she was scared so bad by her dad playing a trick on her that she fell down and wet herself on the spot. Of course I was sympathetic but my stupid brain made a fantasy from it later. >//<

love the facial expression in both the fourth and fifth panels, amazing artwork, but it makes me sad that stars beautiful pi.. LIGHT PURPLE hair is going to change :(
Not following military dress code is grounds for disciplinary action
i can testify to that. but it really depends on your command structure & how sever they seem the infraction to be. i had some friends over the night before i had to go to drill for the weekend & tried dieing my hair back to black & the hair die they chose for me was some cheap black hair die that turned my hair a dark purple. it only took like 10 minutes after showing up for drill that i was pulled aside & questioned about my hair. i was straight forward with my sergeant major telling her i was just trying to get rid of some gray hair & didn't know anything about hair die. she was pretty cool about it just telling me not to die it any unnatural colors & i should be fine. the rest of the weekend was only a little awkward having to explain to everyone why i had dark purple hair. but it did give a lot of people something to laugh & kid around about.
Oh noooo! Not the hair that's Star signature.. damn i wanna see how this turns out so badly rn
Yep kinky stuff always enters the brain at the worst times take high school math class and you have to prevent you self from answering the question with 'paci' I mean it solves most things
Lol anyone else get inappropriate kink scenarios just randomly pop into your head in the most unhelpful times?
OH. Constantly. I mean... if any of your kinks involve embarrassment, I feel like it's almost a given! Because if embarrassment is anxiety-inducing in real life yet appealing within the safety of fantasy/roleplay, that pretty much guarantees you're going to have kinky feelings at unwelcome moments.

It’ll be interesting to see how she dodges this bullet. Though the look on her face in the 5th panel says “F*ck this. I’m going to just kill him” in my opinion.
I hate to say it... but, i too get these wired "fantasys" in my brain too. I don't forget it.. even though I want to...
oh nooooo not her awesome hair color. with such a change everybody will instantly know there is something totally wrong.
I'm confused about the puppy. It he a baby that will grow into a dog walking on two legs, or will he stay like a regular real-life dog. Who changes his diapers? Who are his parents? What make certain dogs seneint and others domestic? Do they eat hamburgers? Am I analyzing this too much?
That is a gut punch that landed. :/ Hoping the resolve is sooner than later. Worst case, Star can have a hair day/pamper day with Manda after this mess is unraveled.
Time for someone to start actually doing their job and stop slacking off it seems, even look the part. I really don't think sarge is such a bad guy at all but star really needs to be put in her place at work, so I think of this as a helping tool, not blackmail.
What isn't blackmail about threatening to release what is arguably a sex tape of your subordinate in order to force her to do what you want? His behavior isn't just ending at making her look more in uniform, he made her buy baby food/items to spoon feed her and uses Big/little talk towards her in an environment she obviously doesn't want to be treated that way. Star's conduct previous to all this aside, it's a pretty textbook case of blackmail, with an (un)healthy bit of sexual abuse to boot.
I have a gut feeling this will backfire very quickly for Sarge. If people close to Star notice her sudden hair change, and possible other physical appearance, they'll start to get suspicious.
Someone close like Yuri who, while not fully understanding why, would put two and two together to figure out that Sarge is blackmailing Star. Why, would still remain a mystery to them (hopefully) and could help Star.

Oh my heart, I feel like I'm stabbed. It's such a part of Star's identity and... aagh, I hate it!
Ah oof so Star has to dye her hair brown now? Well that's lame.
Time to get my Bo-Staff out and whip some sargents ass within an inch of his life then drag him before the base commander and force him to confess that he's blackmailing and harassing Corporal Bryce.
All the comments about how hair dye isn't that bad clearly aren't familiar with psychological abuse. This is a very extreme violation of personal autonomy. He's not just making her do things, he's forcing her to be who he wants and that is so extremely damaging to the psyche. Bathroom control (such as forcing her to wear diapers) is also a big part, all this is actually veering dangerously close yo her developing Stockholm Syndrome in the long term, not that I think that's where the story will go.
Star, I am deeply disturbed by this development and for that I applaud you. It is a credit to your writing that I feel for Star this much.

I know star wouldn't do this but, if I were her I'd throw it in his face and say I won't change my hair go ahead sent it to everyone I won't be controlled I don't care who finds out of my my secret kink so there *sticks out tongue*
Huh. I didn't guess hair dye, but does make sense.
And poor girl with the fantasies, lol.
And poor girl with the fantasies, lol.
People are definitely going to know something is up.
Can we get an f in the chat for Star? Thats the best way to put this situation XD
That's it! Marellis has gone too far! I would go down and tell him off no matter how much trouble I would get in.
Part of me is all "GRRRRRAGH! That EVIL JERK!"
And another part of me is "If Star goes in without dyeing her hair, what will Marellis do to her as a punishment?"
... BE A REBEL STAR!

As someone who is deeply attached to their own mane... this hits extremely hard. I hope Sarge gets what's coming to him and more.
I just hope that her friends realize what is going on, or she finds a way out of this. She is being made to remove the identity she built for herself and become practically a slave to her boss. Having to do something you don’t feel comfortable doing, or don’t want to do, especially under blackmail, is not only abhorred but inhuman.
I dunno why, but that really grinds my gears, like, super super fucked up xD
but to be fair, dying her hair back (and maybe cutting it short) could help w/ regression
Even though it says browny brown for some reason my eyes and brain keeps trying to process it as brownie brown. Yum.
If she's in the armed forces (which is the implication I've gotten but then again I am the dumb) it's surprising she was allowed to keep the two toned hair so long.
Also loving the comic

"Manda, he's her boss. I don't care what events you want to take her to, I'm not going to let that happen. Did you hear what she told him at the party? She even spat out her paci at his face. There is no way in any hell I am letting him near her again."
Also, that last panel hurts so much. I spent years hating my hair color and now that I'm allowed and encouraged to be myself, I would murder anyone trying to take that away. From me or someone else.

That’s a really unfortunate surprise in a different way. Also, I totally get the random fantasies thing.
At least its not a collar, that was my guess. But this guy needs to be dealt with
I'm remarkably familiar with the whole "fantasies randomly appearing" thing. I admit, I'm mildly curious what Star looks like with brown hair. I understand that Marrelis will get recompense delivered unto him, but will Star be humiliated before that point?
Yuri's face though, that smirk, something gonna happen in the next page? Oh my goodness, be wary star
Aww man, I'd be so angry.
I always assumed her pink hair was to remember her brother who left.
He seemed to have pink hair in one panel.
The one where he's crying.
Explains why she doesnt like pink but keeps her hair like her bro's.

Why does everybody ignore key information given buy a comic's author? I've seen this sort of speculation on comments before. Star specifically said "He just wants her to get in line with everyone else" sorry for the off-handed comment i just don't get why you guys torture yourselves trying to guess.
LOL I do love the amount of people going "I dont get what that is whats the box?" Where you'd just need to scroll and read one or two comments to have that question answered LOL
LMAO I usually don't even bother commenting on most work here. XD you and reva are the ones I comment on most lol. Great work as usual btw
really hating stars boss hes evil and a dick and so so needs putting in his place hes bullying star and being mean just cause he can hes majorly triggering me :'(
As a human that is very much a furry lover.
I really want to get Sarge for his blackmail, not with violence though, that will not solve much.
But set up a nice counter blackmail.
Although you do seem to have the hints placed.
Thank you for a nice comic so far.

Better than what I was expecting. Least it's not pervy. I can't say I disagree. I'm surprised she's been allowed to have that hair all along.
Can Star get away with keeping the blond color and dropping the "pink"? Also I'm pretty sure there is nothing in military regulations regarding hair color.
I don't know about the British Military that this is based off, but the US Military does not allow unnatural hair colors. It doesn't have to be YOUR natural hair color, but it does have to a natural color. She'd have to prove the pink is natural (which we know it isn't), or that SOME other anthro in the entire world has it. She could keep the blonde.
I never had to look that up when I was in the service, non natural colors weren't exactly as common as today.
Definitely sure there's no way to allow hair that's two colors. Or highlights.
Well....I hope someone answers that phone......cuz I freakin' CALLED IT!!!
I meant to comment on this earlier but I haven’t had time till just now.
1. No boots here. It’s clear, I kept them. They’re mine now. It’s good you didn’t try to fight me for them Private Titch.
2. Oh my gosh, if you woulda told me ages ago I’d have any kind of emotional response to a character being told they need to dye their hair as part of a blackmail plot point I would have laughed in your face.
But it happened and I’m not laughing. Like literally I got to that part of the page with the box of hair dye and I just paused and sat there ... shook.
I’m consistently impressed by your storytelling chops Star. You win this round.
(P.S. I love the Vidal Sassoon pun ...)

Hair dye? Maybe it’s just me but I don’t see the problem with hair dye my mum uses it all the time!
I can't resist it anymore, I have to say it. I hope that punk blackmailing her gets castrated in the most painful way possible. Sorry..
Sometimes I get them at work or at home or when I'm out. uuuuh I guess I'm just too horny.
