It's not easy to keep watch over the valley while it's shrouded in mist.! Let us hope no unwelcome guests will take advantage of this...
Yet another coloring experiment, and I have to say I'm very proud of how this one turned out! The background was painted just with watercolor, while the foreground ledge area was painted with a mix of watercolor and tempera. ...and of course I had to sneak a CatButt in the picture, that cannot be avoided! :P
Hope you like it, despite it being a bit different from my usual stuff! ^^

I'd hate to see any armies of conquerors infiltrate and take the village. ;)
Absolutely love how this came out! Wonderful use of colors and textures! ^^ The misty effect is superb!
This is a stunning piece! Lots of atmosphere and fantastic color blending, particularly on the ledge for those added details with the tempera paint. Would wholeheartedly welcome seeing more work like this from you in the future. :D
This looks so good! Love the misty valley. Oh, and the cat looks good too.
Glad you liked it! :D Alas, I don't have a super large ref because the original was also pretty tiny
Dead Gods, this is beautiful! Puts me in mind of an old Black Sabbath intro; "In the misty morning, on the edge of time... We'd lost the rising sun ... The final sign... And as the misty morning, rolls away to die... Reaching for the stars, we blind the sky..."
0laffson and catbutt go together like peanut butter and jelly =p
Though there is a comment to be made about how they seem to be flashing the entire valley, too =V
Lovely work on this one, as always! I always found that low-hanging mist beautiful to see. Where I used to grow up, we'd get it a lot in the winter and spring, but it was more at the border between the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands, so we'd just see the tips of the tall hills over the mist. Was still beautiful though.

I cannot live without CatButts! :P
He probably is and he doesn't care :P
Thank you so much! ^^ I agree, it's very nice to see (unless you are right in the middle of it)

Of course, now I'm picturing a combination of the two. Mist rolling in beneath the catbutt... =|a
Though probably more likely to be a sauna scene or somesuch =p

Reminds me a lot of mornings here in the Pacific northwest! Very beautifully done.
Happens here where I live a lot too! ...unfortunately I live at the bottom of the valley :P
epic view is epic. the valley, too. XD
it could work if the sentinel lets their mind wander and finally become one with the mist, at least enough to sense life and noises down there. but it's dangerous too, some nebulous nights you can hear a whailing so distant you wonder if it was there at all, and the old ones say it's the spirit of a sentinel that got lost in the moonlit mist when their mortal coil suddenly died... and some of them wonder if it was a natural death, too.
we might never find out. and nobody dared face that spirit yet, so it can't be asked.

haha, good... good. :) one never knows what comes out of such snippets. ^^
Oh, keeping watch is easy...
Just gotta look for which treetop shakes from someone walking into it because they can't even see their damn nose in that fog.

Great sense of depth in that painting. That Lynx is probably watching for birds disturbed by intruders or any out of place sounds. Good looking one at that
Please promise to keep sharing your landscape work like this, it’s so good!

Yeah, all of those interlopers just streaking through the woods like they own the place just because they think no one will see them.

Love the ambience!
Catbutt must be cold on such a foggy day lol.

Beautiful environment! Love the fog and look of the trees. And cat butts make any piece of art better! ;0
Was that fun? Because that looked fun. Negative space! Use of whiiiite.
Lovely work yet again. I think the only way I'd dig it more was if the character was a wolf. ;D
Looking forward to seeing what else you do with this sort of technique, as well as whatever other methods you try to tinker with in the future. :)

Serious guard duty. Anyone moving in the valley will disturb the mists and call attention to themselves. I discovered that about 35 years ago; we got the bad guys.
Ohhh, getting your Bob Ross on :) Those are some happy misty trees.
I know this is listed as “Unrelated to my Setting”, but this piece is making me wonder about something.
Is there a “New World” in your setting? A continent or two that is currently unknown and undiscovered to the civilization in your setting?

This is beautiful! ^^
Gotta love the whole feeling of contemplation and introspection it brings, along with the serenity and harmony with nature! ^^

And in 100 years the whole place is burried under heavy industry factories. :(
