Monument Valley during sunrise is perhaps among one of the most beautiful sights I've ever laid eyes on... It was certainly very worthwhile to wake up early enough and weather the still lingering chill of the fleeting night to find a scenic spot from the cliffs, so that I could capture such an inspiring moment with pencils and ink and immortalize it when I'd later translate it onto the canvas. The way the landscape and the skies glow brightly with warm gold and blazing orange as the morning sun begins to peak from below the horizon, contrasting gorgeously with the cool hues of the purple mountains that loom beyond in the distance and the steadily retreating deep blue of the night that still linger. How imposing the towering red mesas and lofty sandstone buttes seem even from so far away, and how they remind me so much of the bluffs all the way back in Sedona, almost like I was home again despite being so many miles away...
Truly as lovely as it's almost painful, the heat of the sun as it falls onto my back brings with it a wave of memories now turned bittersweet whenever I remember the warmth of my childhood home, the robust smell of fresh coffee and strong spices wafting from the kitchen, the soft, melodic humming of mi madre singing along with the morning radio and waltzing around while cooking something that was always so delicious for breakfast... Yet despite the deep feeling of homesickness that wells up within me, I know that I have to keep pressing onward regardless. I no longer have any home to return to back in Sedona, and I can't bear to even think of setting foot in that house again... Not right now, it's still far too soon... I do have friends who live there, but I couldn't bear to impose myself and be a burden by asking to stay with them until I could get settled in elsewhere. And if I turn back now, the only thing it would ultimately accomplish is defeating the whole reason of why I left in the first place. To try and move on from the past, and maybe find a purpose for myself somewhere in this vast world filled with all kinds of uncertainties for what the future may yet hold, yet countless possibilities for those who are willing to seek them out.
I could probably spend hours just sitting here on my cliffside perch overlooking the valley, soaking in the sensations of the cool breeze in my hair as the sun steadily warms the land, capturing every intricate detail in all the ridges, crevices, and striations of the gorgeous crimson rock formations scattered throughout the valley and the sandy plains that seemed to stretch on for forever... But all good things must eventually come to an end, as they say, and it will be time to move on soon enough even if I'm not in any particular hurry to do so. But that certainly doesn't mean that I can't still enjoy this moment at my own leisure for as long as it'll last, or at the very least until the dry daytime heat eventually becomes too much to stay out for long. This will be my last stop in Arizona, and I suppose I'll be seeing what new and possibly interesting ventures will be awaiting once I cross the border into Utah from here in due time. Though I know for sure there'll be plenty more desert to drive through on the way to the next destination, wherever that may end up being.
I'll be making records of my travels and keeping track of the days in this journal in the meantime, at least it should be a good means of busying myself in-between breaks from driving and drawing and such. And if I somehow end up going missing or getting into major trouble somewhere along the way (not to entertain such morbid thoughts, but just on the off chance it could become a real possibility), hopefully it'll be able to give some insight on what may have happened if anyone ends up finding it in the future.
Ah, damn... Seems I've spent so long on my sketching and ramblings that the coffee I brought along has gone stone cold. Shame, but I suppose there's no sense in just letting it go to waste now.

An absolutely beautiful and lovely graphic illustration style art piece that I got featuring my wonderful chupacabra child Santiago, just doing a bit of drawing in his sketchbook while admiring the gorgeous scenery all around him as the sun rises in the distance to mark the start of a new day! Santiago has definitely done quite a bit of traveling in his life, and there was a particular period in his life following the death of his foster mother and him subsequently falling into a period of deep despair and depression that he left his hometown behind and spent the better part of a few years journeying across the country. And because the hometown where he grew up and spent most of his years in is located in Arizona, I feel like it would make sense that he's visited the Monument Valley National Park there! It's a very beautiful place and I feel it's definitely worthwhile to visit there at least once if you ever find yourself traveling out that way, and seeing a lot of amazing-looking pictures of the landscape at Monument Valley during sunrise is the main inspiration behind the idea for this piece!
And that being said, I absolutely love how wonderfully amazing this artwork really turned out! While I'm sure this would've looked even more lovely if it was done in the artist's full rendered style, I think that the graphic illustration style works really nicely for it too! This piece really gives off a lot of warm and calming vibes, especially in the way Santiago looks so relaxed and really in his element as he's clearly very engrossed in his drawing with a steaming hot cup of coffee set next to him. The composition and the gorgeous-looking background only makes that quiet, tranquil atmosphere feel even more so, the desert scenery stretching out into the seemingly infinite beyond behind him, the way the morning sun highlights the surrounding landscape, the sandstone formations in the distance, and the cliff that he's perched on, and the beautiful contrast of the darker blue in the sky and the purple-hued far-off mountains to give some balance to the abundance of warmer colors... And of course the highlights around Santiago's figure from where the sunlight would be hitting him as it rises in the distance, and the way it even falls upon the open page of the book in his hands, god... it's just so nice! The artist really did an absolutely incredible job with this piece overall even down to the little details, and I just love everything about how wonderful it came out~ <333
This super lovely and amazing art piece was courtesy of the equally amazing, delightful, and supremely fantastic Castycom! Really, I can't thank you enough for all of the awesome artwork that you've done over the past many occasions that I've asked you for commissions, and even if things have gotten quite a bit harder nowadays due to the global situation going on you always manage to deliver despite it all! Every opportunity that I've gotten to be able to work with you has just been such a joy and a pleasure, you really make it feel so comfortable to communicate together and are willing to make sure that the artwork comes out looking just right and as desired! I always look forward to the next time we can collaborate with each other on a commission, because you do such a great job with my characters and are such a pleasant person to talk with! You do really amazing and lovely work, and I'm more than happy to see more of your stuff and to be able to support you whenever and however possible~ <333
And hey, if you're not already following Casty with how much artwork from them I've already posted up so far, then you should definitely get on that if you like the look of their art! Hop on over to their page, give 'em a watch, fave the original post of this piece and any of their other works over in their gallery that catch your interest, and please do consider shooting a commission their way if you'd like to get some super nice art for yourself or for a friend! Casty has openings for commissions roughly every month, mostly for icons that you can get for a pretty decent price, though they do take regular commissions and offer YCHs as well every so often! As of right now, they've actually just recently opened up icon commission slots and are taking ten of them for $35 each for the month of February! They are also taking two slots for banners if you'd like to get one for your FA profile, and they have one open YCH still left that's being sold at a discount! So if you're interested in ordering something from them, then it's definitely a perfect time to be able to do so! And even if you might not have the funds to be able to get a commission, I'd still like to encourage you all to give a super amazing artist some love and support by at least giving them a follow on their page!
Links to Casty's open icon and banner commissions as well as their open discounted YCH with info and prices for each will be provided below! Please consider checking them out if you'd like to order some super nice and neat art from them, or if not then please share their stuff around with your friends and others who might be interested in getting something done for themselves!

Thank ya thank ya!! I’m very glad to hear it! This artwork is definitely a bit of a different kind of style than the kinds of pieces that I usually get done from Casty, but the graphic type of style is still really nice and fits this quite well, I feel! It gives kind of similar vibes of something like those full-page illustration spreads that you see in comic books and such, which is actually pretty cool the more I think about it! Man, if I could actually afford to pay for that kind of commission, I would definitely love to get a comic or two done of Santiago’s worldly travels and the different sorts of ventures he gets up to along the way, heh~ 😁
I’m doing pretty well so far, thank you! Thank you so much for faving and for your wonderful comment as well, I greatly appreciate it and I’m always so happy to see those notifications pop up from you when I post up a new piece! Thank you so much again for your your kind words and for your continued support, and I hope that you’ve been doing well too~ 💜💜

Awwwww… You really are too sweet, you know that? I’m glad to be able to help make someone else’s day a little bit better, and if I can accomplish at least that much then I’d consider it a win! I’m always very happy and grateful for your kind words and look forward to reading your comments every time, and even when I’m not feeling the best they really help to lift my spirits and make the day feel like it won’t be so bad after all! Much appreciated, my friend, and I hope that you’ll have a wonderful day~ 💜💜
Santiago looks amazing, especially by the cliff of Monement Valley, Castycom did a wonderful job drawing this for you! I'm sure Santiago wouldn't mind having someone enjoy the beautiful scenery with him ~ :3
You did such a beautiful job writing the entry on Santiago's journal and the description, Phoenix! <3

“But of course, mi amigo. Admiring such a beautiful view is always much better with company, that much is for certain. I’d offer you some coffee, but I highly doubt you’d enjoy it cold any more than I would, heh...”
Indeed! I’m sure it’s a nice place to sit so you can really see and admire all of the gorgeous scenery Monument Valley has to offer! Casty really did an excellent job with really capturing the beauty of the desert landscape, and making the whole scene feel so comfortable and peaceful! I’ve never been to Monument Valley myself, personally, but I feel like it’d be a great place to be able to visit at least once sometime, for sure~ 😁
Thank you so very much for the fave and for your lovely comment as always, Case! I felt that it would be a neat little touch to write the story for this as a journal entry, since Santiago would most definitely be the type to keep a travel log of all the places he’s visited! I really appreciate your kind words and your support as always, it really helps give me the motivation and confidence to keep writing and bring more new stories for you and others to enjoy! So thank you very much again, and keep on spreading the love and positivity you always bring wherever you go, my good friend~ 💜💜

Yeah, I have never been to Monument Valley either, but I certainly would love to see it at least once!

It really makes me very joyful whenever I leave a positive comment for you and you stories are something that I always enjoy! Thank you so much for the motivation, I will most certainly spread the love and positivity wherever I go, my friend~ 😊❤️

Santiago looks at peace with what he's doing on there. Definitely love the explanation & the story you did there. Castycom did another great job on this!
This is really lovely, sweetheart! <3
This is really lovely, sweetheart! <3
He really does, for sure! He’s definitely in his element here, enjoying the calm and quiet all around with a beautifully scenic view to accompany it… Moments like these are definitely what he enjoys most in life, especially as an aspiring artist, hehe~ Casty absolutely did a wonderful job with this, for sure! They always do such amazing work, and really knock it out of the park every time!

For sure, for sure, it’s definitely the perfect place to be when you want to just lose yourself in the peaceful atmosphere of the natural world, and get away from all the noise and bustle for a while… And heh that’s certainly very true, what better way to enjoy such a gorgeous view than with some company? I’m sure Santiago would really appreciate it a lot~ 😊
And of course! Honestly, I can’t recommend Casty enough because of the amazing work they do! And even if it takes time, they really deliver wonderful and high quality art every time, and it’s certainly very much worth the wait! 💜
Hehe~ Well I hope you know that it’s always greatly appreciated, and I always look forward to seeing new art that you get done as well! I know you’ve already got some great things planned ahead, heh! Love ya too~ 🥰🥰💜💜💜

Oh no doubt! He can lean on his Sergal if he wants to~ 😘

an anthro chupacabra? this is new, I like the illustration and the story behind it, good writting as always kira!
Indeed! Chupacabras are definitely a species you don’t really see around a lot as anthros, they’re pretty underrated! I’ve seen at least a couple other anthro chupacabra characters around myself, but they’re definitely very few and far between. I actually got this guy a while back from a good friend of mine who made a chupacabra adopt for Halloween, and I just fell so in love with his design that I absolutely had to get him!
Thank you so very much for the fave and for your absolutely wonderful comment as well, Pan! It really means a lot that people enjoy the artworks I get reading these little stories I sometimes write for them, and I greatly appreciate the kind words and feedback as well! I hope to be able to please you with more writing content in the future, and thank you so again for your continued support! Much appreciated as always, my friend and fellow demon~ 💜💜

This time, the picture alone was enough to attract my attention, and so I would have missed the knowledge of the character, the scene, the beautiful piece of writing, the circumstances of this drawing having been commissioned, and the artist responsible for it, had it not been for your inestimably friendly and cheerful Shout -- thank you for cluing me in!
At times, I have trouble focusing while reading written text -- especially a complex literary work -- and when I got down to take in your little story, I was in just that state, so I had to retread same sentences several times until the full meaning and tone of it would become clear, and then re-read the paragraph to make sure I'd been following the storytelling flow properly.
Normally, I'd soon give up and distract myself with something else for a while, to come back and try later, but the eagerness to learn the story behind the picture, and the beauty of what I'd picked up at the very beginning kept me trying and trying, until I reached the signature at the end of Santiago's journal entry.
This is *in no way* me indicating the three incredibly rich and elegantly worded paragraphs of the your story were too dense to get into -- my perceptive and interpretative cogs have gotten clogged like that while attempting to read the works of the great masters as well as casual fanfic authors. I only wanted to convey the narrative pull I've experienced with this, the burning thirst for more while reading something this well-written.
* * *
Having properly taken in the journal entry, allowing it to unfurl in my mind, I was deeply moved by all aspects of the chupacabra's ruminative writings, especially when taken together with your later elaborations.
The descriptions of the vistas viewed from the craggy edges of Monument Valley are potently evocative, and letting the inner eye see the magnificence of that rugged, dawnbreak-tinted aptly monumental natural spectacle. The yearning for visiting that part of the world is definitely planted upon the first read.
The reasons behind Santiago's journey are tragic and relatable, and it is bittersweetly poetic how the rising hot sun chases the poor wanderer out from his nook of respite and ever forward, making him cherish every opportunity for rest, for capturing the sight of stability, and to seek out that indescribable something he'd set out to find. The cup of chilled coffee captures this mood so well: the comforting warmth of the brief stopover has fled, and all that remains is the sobering bitterness of determination, with the mild aftertaste of self-pity.
While still tangibly troubled, unsure, and in a transitional state, your son Santiago sounds like a good chupacabra to get to know, and to open up and share some of those elegant observations.
And you are a definitely a writer to keep an admiring eye on! But I must warn you that due to the issues I mentioned, I won't be able to match all of your upcoming written works, or your amazing energy in audience interactions, so I'm just promising you that your works are worth all the attention, respect and admiration in the world, and if the world is at all fair, you will get your share of public acclaim and love sooner or later.
Thank you also for promoting Castycom with such blinding earnestness and thorough dedication!
The people you commission are truly blessed to be in your temporal employ!

Goodness… I’m honestly just at such a loss for words at such beautiful, thoughtful, and very insightful feedback! But I’ll certainly try my best to say how incredibly grateful I am for your kindness and your support as well, and I’d like to at least say thank you so very much for all of this!
I had to go back and reread through all of this at least a few times to really just take in and process everything, and I just really appreciate how poetically and beautifully you word your thoughts and interpretations. It’s just so wonderful to be able to read the meanings and interpretations through the eyes of another, and in a way it shines a new kind of perspective on the story itself that feels very eye-opening to me as well. And I feel glad to hear that the story and even the character of Santiago feels very grounded and relatable to others in a way, because I like to try and make my characters in general seem like they could be the kinds of people that you know or could meet in real life. And you definitely really nailed the general vibe of Santiago’s overall state in this art piece and in the story, how he’s clearly in a period of transition after leaving his hometown behind, the grief of the devastating loss of his mother still very fresh in his mind, and uncertain of where this path in life will take him, yet he’s still willing to push onwards in hopes of finding a brighter future on the other side. In some way, shape, or form, it’s likely something that we all end up feeling at some point in our lives, especially after going through a tragic event like losing a close friend or beloved family member that would leave a clear impact on us for the rest of our lives. At the end of the day, the best we can do is continue to strive for things to get better, to be able to live our lives in a way that feels fulfilling and meaningful, however that might be for us as the path to be able to achieve that kind of goal differs for everyone.
And hey, don’t worry about not being able to comment on everything and such. Honestly, just knowing that you’re following along and taking the time to read through what writings and such I put down in the descriptions as well as admiring the artworks is more than enough for me. I certainly don’t expect everyone to leave favorites and comments on every single piece of art that I post up, though it’s always greatly appreciated when they do! And that same sentiment applies to you too! The fact that you took the time to read through all of it and write down your thoughts and feedback is really admirable, it’s not often that I get comments like yours! So thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, opinions, and insights, I greatly appreciate it a lot, Dreamwood!
Awwwww… Your kind words are truly much appreciated! It’s really the least I can do to be able to express my gratitude and respects to Casty and all of the other talented artists who give their time and effort to make such amazing artworks! They absolutely deserve all of the support and love they get from the people who already follow them, and from others who find them from seeing their art posted around and choose to follow them as well! I’m just happy to be able to share the works of these awesome folks and encourage others to check them out too, and if it’s enough to persuade at least one or two people to take interest in what these lovely artists have to offer then I’d consider it a job well done! Thank you so much again for such a wonderful comment, and I wish you a lovely day/night and a nice rest of your week as well~ 💜💜

Thank you for this elaborate response!
We all have to face the harsh demands of the world and losses it inflicts on us, true. The longer someone lives in one place, the clearer is the call of wanderlust for them.
Two more thoughts on the picture:
I can almost *hear* the scraping of those claws scratching against the rock when I imagine Santiago walking away.
And it is highly humorous to imagine him daintily holding that coffee cup as he's walking around for hours trying to find the best sketching spot. Of course, that presumes there's is some roadside motel, or a campsite that he'd had to walk from to reach the depicted spot, and not that he's actually camped out just a few yards away, with a simple tent a rucksack that's entirely too large for him.
You are incredibly kind and friendly, in addition to your impressive creative talents -- may you always stay this way!
