The Night Hunter, the Shadestalker, the Twilight Revenant, the Soldier of the Shadows, the Ethereal Eidolon...
A figure as mysterious, enigmatic, imposing, and daunting as his many epithets might imply... A silent sentinel who stalks the lands by dead of night and under moon's light, searching for all things wicked, malicious, and corrupt in his ceaseless quest to cleanse their filth and influence from the world by whatever means possible. Be they dragon, beast, spirit, man, or some nameless aberration born from within the deepest, darkest depths of some far off nightmarish realm... If they've committed any kind of grievous misdeed against the innocent, or seek to disrupt the peace, it will hardly be long before they'll find themselves on the receiving end of his ire, and soon thereafter the edge of his glaive. And if he sees it fit, he will claim a piece off of his fallen quarry to take and keep with him. Either as a special kind of token to remember the hunt by, or to add on to his fearsome armor composed from the scavenged hides and scattered fragments of past foes who too have met their end by his hands. A near constant, walking reminder and warning of what grim fate will surely befall any who dare to make themselves his adversary.
The only thing sharper than his blade and his bold, intense gaze is his relentless persistence and tenacity, once he has a target in his sights he's never keen on simply letting them go. He will follow his quarry to the ends of the earth if that's what it must take, and as they say, once you've drawn his attention and anger you might as well prepare to either sign your own epitaph, or spend the rest of what life you still have left constantly on the run. None have ever managed to escape him yet, and rest assured he certainly intends to keep it that way...
A super incredible and absolutely epic-looking art piece that I got featuring a completely brand new character that I've come to acquire fairly recently, and while his backstory is still very much a work in progress before I can post up his actual reference sheet I just couldn't resist wanting to get some art done for him! So in that regard, I'd like for you all to formally meet my newest boy, Gault Tremont, the Night Hunter! I've admittedly been wanting at least another character to more properly indulge that part of myself that really just loves fantasy, dark fantasy, and pretty much everything else associated with those kinds of genres, and while most of my other characters are a bit more fitted for a more modern-fantasy kind of universe, Gault will be primarily for more purely fantasy-inspired types of settings and artworks! Also he totally gives off very Dark Souls/Elden Ring boss kind of vibes (as mentioned by the artist themselves), and I really like that a lot, hehe~
Of course, I'd like to give special thanks and credit to the original artist Quinnmanellen for the design of this guy! Definitely do check them out and give them a watch too if you're interested in some super unique and ultra neat-looking adoptables for decent prices, they're always coming out with some really nice designs that you won't find anywhere else if you'd like to get a brand new one-of-a-kind character for yourself!
That all aside, however, I'm just super in love with how incredibly awesome this really turned out for his first ever artwork! The whole piece really just radiates epicness and eeriness... The upwards-angled perspective towards Gault as he stands there, looking very confident and a bit sassy with the hand-on-hip posing and his sharp, snarling expression, and all the lighting effects between the silvery gleam of the moon as it falls upon him, the purple glow of the dragon head's eye on his shoulder, and the glint of his glaive's blade from the light hitting it... And of course the texturing, detailing, and render work is so beautifully done too between his fur and his long, flowing mane and tail, the smooth-looking metal of the polearm's blade and all the belts and clasps on his body, and of course all of the different parts and pieces of his monster hide armor as well! It's certainly quite a complicated design to have to work with, for sure, but the artist definitely did a fantastic job with nailing it pretty spot on! And of course the wonderfully done background really helps to tie it all together with the night sky above and the rocky cliffs and darkened forest all around, he's definitely not the kind of guy you'd want to be on the wrong side of and end up running into in the dark, that much is for sure! And of course, huge kudos to the artist for doing an absolutely phenomenal job with the execution of the idea for the piece and working with his design, I honestly couldn't be happier with how the results really came out~ <333
This super awesome and magnificently done art piece was courtesy of the equally awesome, fantastic, and marvelously talented MDSkitty! Thank you so very much once again for both the incredible art piece and for the great opportunity to be able to work with you once again on something like this! It was truly quite an honor to be able to ask for you to draw my new boy Gault for his first ever commissioned art piece, you really did an excellent job with him, for sure! This piece was definitely a treat to be able to watch it come together from start to finish, and it was a super nice experience to collaborate with a cool, kind, and wonderful guy like you! I really appreciate it so much, and I'll definitely be looking forward to the next time we can work together again on either a commissioned piece or maybe a YCH! And in the meantime, keep up the amazing work as always~ <333
And hey, if you like the look of this, then please consider having a wander over to Midas's page, giving him a watch, faving the original post of this piece in his gallery and any of his other artworks that catch your interest, and possibly shooting a commission his way if you're looking to get some awesome art for yourself while he's open and accepting orders! New customers are always welcome if you like his art style and what all he has to offer, and he usually busts out the artwork pretty quickly too so waiting and turnaround times aren't very long either! He does offer YCHs occasionally too if those are more your speed, and as of recently he's also offering chibi-styled commissions for just $30 a piece! Either way, if you're in the market for getting ahold of some super nice quality art for good and reasonable prices, then please do consider ordering something from him! And even if you're not able to afford anything or aren't especially interested in getting art, I highly encourage you all to give a lovely and awesome artist more attention and support by at least giving him a follow and sharing his stuff around with friends and others who might be interested!
Links to Midas's commission info and prices as well as his open YCH piece that's still up for grabs will be provided below! Please do check them out and consider ordering something if you'd like, and if you're not able to or aren't particularly interested even just helping to share his artworks and stuff around will be much appreciated!

He definitely looks really cool and badass! Gaut seems like an interesting character to get to know & yeah, Midas did a great job on the pic! :3
Heh, of course sweetheart! I'm always glad to see what new art you get (though I wish I had that kind of money to get a lot of commissions). But yeah, love your art my sweetest, dearest, loveliest, & most precious Lynx~ 🥰🥰💙💙💙💙💙

His dark fantasy-inspired design really hit all the right kinds of beats, and I’ve really wanted a character to be able to indulge more in my love of fantasy and the kinds of things related to those settings for a while now! I’m already looking forward to getting more art featuring Gault in the future, and Midas definitely did an absolutely fantastic job with this first art piece featuring him, for sure~ 😁

New character, Hoo dis?
He seems cool, but how would he deal with redemption?
He seems cool, but how would he deal with redemption?
Indeed, indeed!! Already looking forward to getting more commissions done with him, for sure! Always wanted to have a character dedicated more for pure fantasy kinds of settings, so it’ll be a nice little change of pace to indulge in every so often!
Hmmmmm… That’s a pretty good question, actually. When you say redemption, what are you’re thinking of specifically?

Ahhhhh thank you so much!! I’m very excited and happy to hear it! I’m still hammering out some of the details and such to really make Gault into more of a full-fledged character before finally posting his refsheet, but I just couldn’t wait to get some art done of him! And Midas did an absolutely phenomenal job with this piece, he really nailed Gault’s look and pulled off the execution super well to make both him and the setting feel very epic and ominous! Huge props to him, for sure~ 😊
Oh of course, my friend! Feel free to ask away, any and all questions that you have I’ll be happy to answer as best I can!

I actually found Gault a little while ago, actually! I’d stumbled across the original artist Quinnmanellen’s page when I saw one of their adopts while browsing through FA, and naturally began watching them because I really liked their unique style and adopt designs! They posted up the original design reference of this guy in particular, The Night Hunter, about a month ago for adoption, and the moment I saw him I knew I just had to have him! And the rest is history, heh~ ^^
For your other question, this is actually the very first commissioned art piece that I’ve ever gotten done for Gault outside of his original reference sheet done by Quinnmanellen, which I will post up sometime later after I get the details of his backstory ironed out and written up. But I do intend to get more art pieces with him in the near future for sure! Primarily fantasy-themed ones, because that’s the kind of stuff that I really enjoy and I want to explore more stories and scenes within those kinds of settings!

And you’re very welcome as always, my friend! I’m incredibly grateful for your kind words and your continued support as well, and it’s always nice to be able to hear from you! I hope that you’re having a wonderful day/night so far, and I wish you a nice rest of your weekend too~ 💜💜
I applaud the versatility of your ensemble! There may not be a grand enough story to make Sir Tremont's professional qualities and personality unfold, but his is a thoroughly promising character concept: a relentless, driven hunter of the wicked, perhaps with a bit of ego and reputation to maintain in addition to his more noble motivation, and his ruthless dedication to the spirit of justice may make for very interesting story about some of his intended marks who may either have, or develop some redeeming and sympathetic qualities by the time The Night Hunter catches up to them.
And visually, this nocturnal nemesis of the ne'er-do-wells is obviously the right kind of theatrical and extravagantly styled gorgeousness, with that morbidly ornate armor, and the gigantic mane of hair to match one the fluffiest tails in all planes of existence.
A belated congratulations for creating a dark fantasy conduit for your storytelling!

My goodness, thank you so very much as always, Dreamwood!! I again apologize for the delay in responding back to your comment, been rather busy between work, friends, taking a short vacation out of town to visit with family for a few days, and not feeling the best health-wise for a bit, but thankfully I'm feeling better and can finally buckle down and respond properly! But again, I really appreciate you taking the time to not only read all of these little stories and blurbs about all of my different characters, but also to leave feedback as well to voice your thoughts and opinions! Even if it's a relatively minor thing, I hope you know that I absolutely appreciate every bit of it and I always look forward to seeing what all you have to say!
I'm very glad that even though I have yet to actually give the full details of Sir Tremont's backstory and personality and such, that he's already become quite a interesting character that people have taken a liking to so far! I do hope to be able to actually post up his refsheet with everything all laid out soon, I've got a bit of a backlog of other things to try and work through but it will be done! But yes, this is the kind of character concept that I had in mind for him, a vigilant protector and a persistent pursuer of all things evil and wicked, working under the cover of night to defend the innocent and keeping the nightmarish beasts and beings that prowl through darkness and shadows at bay. But perhaps there could be some interesting stories here and there, if by chance those who become his marks wish to or have sought redemption in some way, those who express some degree of remorse for their past misdeeds and wish to move on and better themselves.
And while Gault himself indeed does his best to try and uphold the reputation that he's garnered for himself, perhaps underneath that steely, piercing gaze and that sense of unfaltering courage and tenacity to battle against the forces of evil... the Night Hunter may also be something of a troubled soul himself. Someone who has and maybe still is struggling with some of his own innermost demons, and trying to reconcile himself with certain parts of his past that continue to haunt him even to this day. Though I don't want to give too much detail as to not spoil the surprise of what I have intended for him, but I hope that when I'm able to post up his backstory that it'll still be interesting and build a bit more upon him and his overall character! Of course I'm also looking forward to being able to explore more about him throughout all of his stories and adventures, and how he'll develop and grow along the way too!
Oh I absolutely agree with you there on his design too! Of course, the credit for Gault's design goes to the original artist Quinnmanellen, it's certainly quite a unique take that you don't see around all too often! Of course the use of monster parts in armor crafting has been done before if you're familiar with game series like Monster Hunter, where that's a fairly large part of the overall gameplay and the crafting system mechanic. But the idea itself is a very interesting concept! Incorporating the scales, skin, horns, teeth, etc. of the creatures you kill into your own armor not only to in a way grant yourself some of their own strength and means of protection, but to also serve as a grim reminder and a sort of passive method of intimidation against any future enemies who cross paths with you. Sort of like how back in olden times, criminals would often be sentenced to death and executed publicly, not only to show that offenders of the law were being brought to justice as they deserved, but also to serve as an example to others. To demonstrate that it could very well be you up there on the chopping block alongside people like them if you were to turn to a life of theft and murder and such. Quite brutal to think about, and it was certainly quite a savage practice... then again, I feel like a lot of things back during medieval times when it came to capital punishment for criminal acts tended to be. But it's fairly similar in principle, if that makes sense at least! And of course I absolutely love the long mane and tail to really complete the ensemble, I'm admittedly quite partial to characters with those kinds of features! Something about the way hair like that billows out as its caught by the wind and flows behind them to make them feel that much more imposing and impressive, it just hits a certain kind of note for me!
Thank you so very much again for the sentiment, and for your attention and support as always!! I've always really enjoyed fantasy stories while growing up, something about imagining a magical, far off land where dragons and all kinds of mystical creatures and people exist is always just incredibly fascinating for a child! And even now as an adult, I still really enjoy digging into those kinds of tales and following along with compelling, character-driven stories and elements of magic and fantasy sprinkled in-between, such as the likes of A Song of Ice and Fire or the Chronicles of Narnia, to name a couple! And of course dark fantasy is in itself interesting in that it explores more of the areas of the genre that's not all bright fairy tales and happily ever after, that a world in which magic exists can also have more horrifying implications as well underneath the wonder and enchantment of it all. I really hope to be able to build more stories in the future based in a kind of genre that I very much thoroughly enjoy centered around Gault and his many ventures, and I hope that others will like them as well!
Again, thank you so very much as always for your continued support and for your beautifully worded and detailed comments as well! I just can't help but feel so giddy and excited to read them whenever you're able to drop in and leave a bit of feedback, you have such a way with descriptions that I sometimes wonder if you might be something of a storyteller yourself! It really means a lot that others enjoy reading these short stories that I write just for fun and to channel my own creativity, and that my characters seem interesting and unique in their own ways even if some might be more appealing to people than others, haha~ But I deeply appreciate it all the same, and even if you might not leave comments on the artworks and stories I post all that often, your presence is greatly welcomed all the same and just knowing that is more than enough for me! And thank you again for your patience as well! My apologies that it took so long to respond on my end and I will try to do the same with your other comment as soon as I can too, but sometimes it can't be helped when life and other things in general demand so much time and attention, you know? That aside, though, I hope that you've been keeping well as of lately, and I wish you a wonderful day and a lovely rest of your week too! And I hope that you'll continue finding even more amazing artworks and fantastic stories to excite and inspire on your journeys too~ 💜💜

Really unfortunate that you've been unwell and overworked, and it gives me great relief to hear you are free to enjoy this site once more!
However, I wish to make it clear that I never expect any replies to come sooner than the people responding would find comfortable -- be it a few days, a few weeks, or if the reply never comes, I won't think any less about the person. No one is entitled to other people's time and energy, and I am always highly appreciative when artists find a moment to engage.
Thank you for unleashing such generously thorough communiques at people who stop to admire your writing! You are one of a kind in that regard, even though I've talked to a good number of conversation-ready creators.
On the subject of fairytales, I believe the happy ever after-s and saccharine positivity of those setting are a very recent invention, because authentic folklore that fables and fairytales are built upon, and even the first published fairytales were *profoundly* disturbing, violent and heavy with themes of mysticism and death, as you well know, and the same goes for some of the staples of fantasy literature that is considered to be relatively tame by today's standards. "Chronicles of Narnia", for one, has some pretty grim religious and moral horror in it.
Dark fantasy does have a distinctive aesthetic to it, besides the violent content -- the gothic architecture, the menacing-looking heroes, the horrifying villains, the explicit and potent effects of dark and corrupting magic... so whether Tremont will be engaged in making difficult moral choices about sparing or bringing justice to his marks, or if it will be glorious and thrilling clash with impossibly deadly and monstrous foes, using dark powers to aid him because a timid prayer and a trusty rusty sword are just not enough to stop *that* kind of evil, I'm sure you will find a way to make his journeys exciting, and keep Gault's reputation awe-inspiring... and his mane and tail glossy and striking when they catch the moonlight as he poses on top of some ornately crenellated dark citadel among gargoyles, poised to swoop down on his otherworldly prey.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the now-appalling nature of visual intimidation of the wrongdoers by gruesome example of the punishment allotted for such misdeeds.
I will admit that as I get on in years, I begin to develop a lot more sympathy for the criminals -- obviously for the wrongly accused, but also for those who did harm, but after having been forced into situations so difficult that I couldn't judge them for it in good conscience. Justice is a difficult process, and at times, the enforcers of laws, and the laws themselves, can be scarier than any thief or robber.
But there are some crimes that are done out of arrogance, sadism or pettiness that don't have any excuse, and the responsible ought to be punished.
Once again, thank you for your kind words, for your work and for your boundless dedication to helping the creators you employ grown their audiences!

A glaive!! Nice weapon of choice. Love it! Does it have a name? What material is it made out of? How long did you train to master it or do you still have a lot to learn?
How tall is he?
How tall is he?
Indeed!! The glaive is Gault’s favored weapon of choice, and he’s definitely spent the better part of a good several years to learning and mastering the techniques to use it most effectively in combat. His signature glaive is called Tempest’s Edge, made from fine tempered steel, enhanced with the teeth, scales, and blood from a blue dragon which infuses the weapon with its inherent power and grants it magical strength. It can also fire off lightning bolts and deal extra damage of the same type while activated, along with some other storm-based abilities because of the dragon’s natural affinity and influence.
As for how tall he is… That’s still being workshopped at the moment so I don’t have anything specific yet, but I know I definitely want him to be a pretty tall man, like somewhere in the range of 7-8 feet tall. Really add on to that imposing and intimidating presence that he has about him, you know?
