Even with much of the wildlife that lives within the vicinity of the witch’s forest having hidden themselves away to escape from the bitter chill that the frigid winter brings with it, either ducking into the safety and shelter of their dens to hibernate or migrating southwards to warmer places to stay temporarily for the season, the woods still thrum with the stirrings of life as those of its residents that can stand the cold are still quite active even throughout the harsh and bitter weather. It’s hardly unusual to be able to spot squirrels clambering and leaping about through the trees and scampering along the frosty grounds as they dart between food caches they’ve stored up during autumn, or deer gathering close in tight-knit herds searching together for leaves, moss, and bark to eat, leaving winding trails of hoofed tracks and trampled snow in their wake wherever they went. Though perhaps the liveliest and most sprightly of the bunch would have to be all of the birds that stick around and weather their way through the freezing climate, filling the forest with their echoing calls and songs as the first hours of a new morning arrive from beyond the horizon. And all too often Senna will find herself sharing company with a good many of her winged compatriots while out on her daily walks as they flock to her, looking for food or simply wanting a comfy perch to rest or stay safe from potential predators.
The very first of her avian acquaintances that come out to greet her on even the nippiest of mornings are always the black-capped chickadees. Very bold and generally tolerant sorts all in all, they’re perhaps the most curious and adventurous of all the winter songbirds and hardly shy to approach whenever they spot her strolling between the trees. In some instances, she’s seen them even willingly come in close to strangers that they may spot wandering around in her woods during this time of year. Sometimes they'd accept food right from the hands of such visitors if they offer it, typically seeds or small berries that they preferred to eat most of all. Truly quite a daring species, indeed…
She regularly hears them well before they make their presences known, the clear, sweet calls of their distinctive ‘fee-bee’ songs reverberate almost constantly throughout the forest during the daytime. A slight disturbance in the breeze and a flutter of wings signals their coming, oftentimes about two or three of them will approach first to ensure it was safe and there were no predators around. Once sure that the coast was clear, the scouts give the signal and the rest of the flock swarms around her almost immediately, not even a sliver of fear to be found in their eyes despite being faced with the presence of a towering giant like herself. Some of them are content enough to simply find a nice perch and nestle themselves within the thick, dark pelt of her mantle for extra warmth, others will hover in close or land atop her crown of antlers to get at the clusters of small red berries growing there, either grabbing a quick snack for themselves or gathering more forage to store away for later. All the while they excitedly chatter away amongst each other and with Senna as well, sharing news of the day-to-day goings on within the forest to the witch while the trees and flora were quietly and peacefully slumbering away until spring’s arrival.
Maybe one or two of them that feel especially brave may instead choose to rest right there in the palm of her hand, allowing her to very gently stroke their soft little downy feathers and even lightly run her claws against their wings if they’ll let her go that far. Fearless as they may be, they’re still very delicate creatures that should be handled with a certain degree of understanding, tenderness, and care, as all birds tend to be…
On some occasions, her chickadee companions might come to her with some interesting associates of their own in their midst. Odd fellows in the form of white-breasted nuthatches, tufted titmice, and sometimes a warbler or two that tended to stick close with their flocks during the winter season. They too would join in on the gathering once they got the signal that it was safe to come out of hiding, introducing themselves into the chorus with their own unique calls and chirps as they settled in to roost temporarily or fluttered about in the air around her with their assorted comrades. Occasionally some of them would squabble with one another over who gets to lay claim to their share of the berries first, their musical lilts and trills briefly replaced by agitated gargles and harsh cries as they clashed with lashing talons and buffeting wings for but a few moments until a winner was finally decided.
The lot of them could certainly be quite a noisy and rowdy bunch, for sure, but Senna hardly minded their antics and company regardless. The witch was more than content to simply go about her usual business as she wandered about through the snowy landscape and roamed between the barren trees of her forest home, listening to the sweet, serenading tunes of her dear feathered friends as they tagged along with her for however long they were willing to stay.
An absolutely beautiful and wonderfully done icon commission featuring my dear forest witch-druid monster creature Senna, clad in her lovely white winter coat and dressed all in warm fabrics and furs to go out on a wintry morning walk! Of course, she doesn't necessarily need to bundle up for the weather like most beings do since she is naturally immune to the freezing temperatures due to the winter spirit's blessing, but she does understand that it's still considered rude to walk around without any clothes on where others might be able to see. And it seems she's found herself some nice little feathered friends to keep her company on this chilly morning, much to her delight~ With spring having officially arrived now starting today, this will likely be the last we'll see of winter-themed Senna for the time being! At least until the next frosty season comes around, of course!
For a few little fun facts about Senna's winter form, those berries growing on her antlers are indeed edible, and if you eat at least one of them then it'll keep you nice and full and without need for any other food for quite a while! And they have a slightly tangy but very refreshing taste to them, sort of like a cross between cranberries and rosehips for a rough approximation. And for an actual real life fun nature fact, during the winter season, black-capped chickadees will indeed in some instances form mixed flocks with other non-migratory bird species like nuthatches, titmice, warblers, kinglets, and woodpeckers! So if you ever have birdfeeders out during the cold season to attract chickadees to your yard, there's a chance you might see some other interesting avian visitors tagging along with them as well!
That all aside, I absolutely love how gorgeously and beautifully this art piece really came out! The look of the pose and the softly smiling expression on Senna's face as she greets her chickadee companions is just so lovely and conveys a sense of fondness and affection, which is definitely quite fitting for the being that is considered the 'Mother of the Forest' and loves all flora and fauna alike. The detailing and texturing work is all amazingly well done, the dark fur of Senna's mantle and coat collar really seem like they'd be so soft and warm to the touch, the metallic sheen of the clasps and chains make them look so smooth and shiny, and I especially really love the shading and highlight work on her antlers to make them seem solid and almost tangible! And the overall composition work is absolutely lovely too, how the primary colors are a mix of cool and neutral tones like blue, white, black, and grey to give that chilly, wintry feel, and are balanced out so nicely by the scattered pops of warmer shades in the yellows and reds all throughout. The background further helps to tie things together and give that sense of being out in the forest on a frosty morning, barren, leafless trees all around and the bright rays of the sun spilling in from over the horizon, snow squeaking underneath your feet as you tread across the vast sea of white and weather the chilly breeze as it nips at your face. As if despite the bitter cold all around, there's still a sense of calmness and peace to traversing the snowbound landscape, hearing the distant calls of birdsong from deep within the woods... And of course, the use of added noise gives this such a nice, crisp-looking finish to it! As always, the artist did an incredible job and executed this absolutely fantastically, without a shadow of a doubt~ <333
This magnificent and super gorgeous art piece was courtesy of, as per usual, the incredibly wonderful, awesome, and supremely talented Castycom! God... Senna looks very beautiful as always, I would love to enjoy the company of chickadees with her ;3
You did such a very splendid job with the story, Phoenix! I really do enjoy the fact that your stories are so skillfully written, the least I can do is be here to appreciate the effort you've put into your stories, my friend! <3

“Ah… You have my sincerest gratitude for such kindness, dear child… Your compassion brings warmth to this old witch’s heart on even the most bitter winter’s day. I doubt the chickadees will mind you staying with us at all, they are certainly brave little birds, and quite friendly too even with strangers, aha~ Would you like to hold one, or perhaps a few…? They are usually fine with taking food right from your hands if you offer it for them, and they do not mind being touched either if they’ll allow you to. I only ask that you be very gentle with them, please…” - Senna
Ahhhhh thank you so very much as always for your wonderful support and words of kindness, Case!! It really just warms my heart and brings the biggest smile to my face to see such nice feedback not only for the artworks themselves, but for these little stories as well! I actually did do some researching on the biology and behaviors of birds and other animals that are notably very active during the winter, and especially on the ecology of black-capped chickadees to try and make it as accurate as possible. So I’m very glad to hear that that added touch of realism was able to shine through as intended! Just knowing that these short stories are acknowledged and appreciated by all who enjoy reading them is all I could ever ask for, and I really can’t thank you enough for how grateful I am and how glad it makes me to read your comments every time! But the least I can say is thank you so much for the brightness and positivity that you bring with you, my good friend! You have my deepest gratitude for your constant kindness, praise, and support, and your shining presence is always welcome here whenever you can stop by~ 😊💜💜💜💜

An exquisite wildlife observation piece, thank you for crafting it so meticulously!
The behavior of late winter's ever-peckish tweety-birds, from their daily patrolling routes, to their skittish, cautious examination of a possible bipedal benefactor, to the gleeful swarming of a person ascertained as a friendly and generous giant -- the descriptions of those birds' lean season banding lifestyle are hearteningly true to life!
I love the knowledgeable, confident and enthused exploration of specifics of that feathered flight's species composition and minutia of their mannerisms, as well as the sense of expanse, of volume of that place that is built up by the gradual collection of observations made by your druid character as she moves throughout the snowbound woods. Impressively immersive, educational and atmospheric!
Compliments on your character design with Senna -- the woodland birdwatcher's careful, but quietly excited manner of feeding the birds will be familiar to anyone with some experience of gaining the ravenous trust of the tiny fluttering forest-dwellers. I admire the understated blending of mundane appearance and behavior with hints of modest, practical magic, like those berry-bearing antlers, and I enjoyed the particulars of the druid's clothing, especially the impending change of wardrobe, which reflects the nature's stewardess' connection to the wheel of the seasons.
The drawing is wonderful for all the reasons you've listed, and the so-solid-you-could-touch-it antlers with their crystalline topography, and those dully mirrory clasp-buttons on the overcoat, complemented by the intricate rendition of the complex inner layers of warm winter dress, are all pleasing to the eye and to the mind.
The slightly manic expression of a bird-lover overwhelmed with admiration towards their cheeky little friends is palpable, and the sense of gentle restraint in regards to the posture providing a safe and welcoming landing zone to the birdies is likewise handsomely conveyed.
The eponymous chickadees are very finely depicted in all their mercurial variable manifestations as adorable perchers, urgent petitioners and frantic hoverers.
Thank you as always for promoting the artist so glowingly, and for your messages of well-wishing in response to gestures as faint as Faving!
Cheer and inspiration to you!

Ohhhhh my goodness, thank you so very much yet again for such lengthy and insightful comments, Dreamwood!! Really, I'm truly quite grateful whenever you're able to take the time and write out these very thoughtful and expositive posts! It feels like getting a bit of insight into your own musings and impressions for all of the different details presented in the artwork itself, and as I mentioned previously, I do enjoy being able to get a feel for how such things are interpreted through a new pair of eyes and a fresh perspective! And the way you break everything down and parse each notable element so meticulously and give your own thoughts and opinions along the way, it's really quite a pleasure to be able to read through them every time!
Speaking of which, I'm incredibly glad to hear that this short little story was both enjoyable and quite educational to read as well! I actually based a lot of this both from my own experiences as someone who lives in North America where these birds are native to, and from doing a good bit of research into the ecology and behaviors of non-migratory species that stay behind during winter and can still survive in such cold conditions. I always associate the snowy season with certain birds that typically appear around that time of year, most especially the black-capped chickadees that are probably the most common winter birds you'll see around my area. It was certainly quite eye-opening to get more of a detailed glimpse into that particular species through some in-depth investigations and come out of it with some newly gained nuggets of knowledge as well, and of course I wanted to try to make the descriptions of them and how they act feel as close to real life as possible! So I'm certainly quite pleased to hear that it was achieved as well as I'd hoped for this little story, and I hope it was also an interesting learning experience for others as it was for me too!
And of course it was certainly quite fun and interesting to be able to interpret the antics of these bold little birds through the lens of a druidic forest dweller like Senna, who spends her days living among all of the different flora and fauna of her home and has watched how the woodlands change all throughout the seasons for centuries upon centuries. I feel like if you were to talk to someone like her, she would be practically a walking, talking compendium of all the different animals and plants within the ecosystem and could tell you all about their habits, behaviors, and virtually anything else you'd like to know about them even down to the littlest nuances! And she would certainly do so with all the spirit and enthusiasm of both a passionate teacher who enjoys extensively talking about their particular area of study, and an overjoyed mother fawning over her babies. Because to Senna, all of the wildlife that dwells within her forest are her children!
That you also noticed some of the intricacies of Senna's design as well is very greatly appreciated too! I did actually come up with the idea that she'd have berries growing on her antlers while in this wintry form, taking some inspiration from the holly shrubs that you might see dotting the snowbound landscape with pops of little bright red fruits. It felt very fitting for her both as a magical druidic being that dwells within the forest, and as someone who protects and provides for all living beings that dwell within her home, especially during the harsh and bitter season where food is especially sparse and hard to come by. And I do like to include finer details like that both for aesthetics and for practicality as well when coming up with character designs! And I also agree on the look and characteristics of her clothing as well, thank you so much for taking note of it! Senna's particular wardrobe is meant to be more medieval-inspired in style, especially with the long coats and dresses made of thicker, heavier fabrics and lined with wool or furs to protect as much as possible during the winter. And the way that the colors of this outfit plays quite nicely with Senna's natural palette definitely felt like a really great match!
And of course all credit for the amazingly done art goes to Casty as well! I simply provided the idea and the reference details for what it was that I wanted for the piece, but they helped to breathe life into it by bringing it all together on one canvas! Their texturing and rendering work really does such a fantastic job of conveying the look and feel of all the little details, like you might be able to vividly imagine how soft it would be if you could touch the fur of the witch's mantle, or run your finger along the surface of her antlers and truly discern how hard and rigid they are. The way Senna smiles so warmly as she's surrounded by her feathered friends and holds a hand out to let one of them alight and perch right there upon her fingers is indeed very wonderfully presented, I can imagine something like this would be the kind of experience that anyone who adores birds to such a degree would love to be able to share in their lifetime! And of course the chickadees are so beautifully done and quite accurately depicted too down to the shapes of their little bodies and the lovely patterns of their feathers, huge kudos again to Casty for really nailing them down!
You're very welcome!! As always, I'm more than happy to keep spreading the praise and good word about such awesome and talented artists like Casty, they absolutely do deserve all the support, attention, and love that they get both from those who already follow them and from any future followers that come across them and enjoy what they do too! Even just faving the works that I post up here and acknowledging them in general really means a lot to me, and I'm always glad to give my thanks and appreciation even for such a small yet still very kind gesture!
Cheers to you as well! Even if you might not always be able to leave comments on the works I post, just know that your presence alone already speaks volumes for someone like me who likes sharing these little stories alongside such artworks to be enjoyed, even if it's mostly just a fun little hobby in the grand scheme of things! And I deeply appreciate when you can devote the time and attention for leaving your thoughts and musings, you are certainly quite the poet when it comes to weaving words and crafting descriptions and I thoroughly love reading what you have to say every time! Thank you so very much again as always, and I wish you a nice journey to find more gorgeous art and charming stories that spark your inspiration~ 💜💜

Thank you once again for the generously detailed response! It is a privilege to be allowed inside the mind of an artist, and learn the deeper meanings and circumstances behind their work!
Having recently taken a tour of your galleries, and having learned more of your characters Kira, Morgana, Senna and Rosamund, I can't help but admire the diversity of theirs, their memorable and striking visual designs and personalities, and I'm impressed by the breadth of eras and environments can they feel at home in.
Senna in particular is remarkable, her journey from an adoptable character to becoming so richly developed and presented in different situations. Senna combines such great power, immortality and mystic vision with the vulnerability, appreciation for simple things and reclusion of someone very mortal, and very human.
Of note is the wandering of the pronouns you have used to refer to her/them -- is it flexible and fluid, or has she come to be more naturally viewed as more female in your eyes, rather than their initial non-binary identity?
I would be most grateful to learn more about what Senna's connection to her land means, what are her duties, and how did she come to view those as duties. Druidic characters serving nature are often presented in very basic and vague way in fiction, and I'm sure you have much deeper ideas for what Senna actually wants, plans and strives for as the protector of her environment.
Anyone could find great solace and wonderment in simply immersing themselves in the passing of the seasons, living a life of woodland hermitry, and Senna is described to have been indulging in a number of collecting and crafting activities on the side, with her study of magic and alchemy being at the forefront,
But what of her ecological work? Pictured and narrated in this work is her both enjoying the company of rambunctious birds while also offering them a supplement to their scarce wintertime rations -- grown from her own body, no less!
How does she balance out preserving the wilds in their natural state with preventing the occasional natural disaster?
Does she worry about the wildlife coming to depend of her support?
Does she limit herself to preserving the woods as they are, or is she guiding the expansion of her domain, and integrating other forests into the larger area under her protection?
Does she experiment with introducing some new critters into the ecosystem to solve some woodland and trophic web issues, and does she exile some of the troublemaking and invasive species?
How does she reconcile caring for something as tiny and innocuous as these chickadees, and caring for the predators who hunt them?
Having been brought up as a hunter, she also still hunts and sets traps, or has she gradually shifted to be sustained by her gardens and orchards? I assume Rowan, her wolf companion, would need meat even if Senna could do without it.
Does she enter the minds and visions of other living beings in the forest to experience the world from their perspective?
Can she turn herself into other animals?
If the civilization will encroach on her protected lands, will she make a stand, or try to migrate to a more secluded part of the wilderness?
Thank you in advance if you would choose to answer any of these questions, I'm very curious!
And thank you for your kind words, and for sharing your passionate creativity with the rest of us!

You're very welcome!! And in similar sentiment, I'm very happy and quite honored to be able to get a good look into your own mindscape, see how you pick apart and examine all the different details in a piece of artwork and give an elaborate breakdown of each one! And oh goodness, thank you so very much for taking the time and attention to look through so many of the works in my gallery, not only leaving favorites on a lot of them but also reading into the little stories as well to learn more about my characters as well! It absolutely means a lot that others give their attention to delve into and get to know them on a more intimate and in-depth sort of level, and I'm really quite pleased to hear it! Thank you so very much for your kind and warm words!
Senna is definitely quite an interesting character for sure, and thank you so very much for reading up on their backstory and other tidbits about them! My main intent is not only to try to make my characters fit well into the different kinds of settings that they're made for, but to also keep them fairly grounded, real, and feel very much like someone you could potentially meet during your lifetime! And even though Senna is by definition an ancient, wizened being who seems to defy the laws of time and age, even powerful immortal and god-like beings aren't necessarily above the emotions and flaws that are also very human as well.
To explain a little bit about the use of different pronouns for them, for Senna it tends to be pretty flexible overall. They are indeed by nature a non-binary and gender-neutral individual who does use they/them, but they also do lean a bit more heavily towards preferring to also be referred to by feminine pronouns because they personally find some degree of comfort and belonging in that kind of identity as well. And not only that, they also prefer to wear a lot of clothing that also tends to be quite feminine because it brings them happiness and solace in a way. So they/them, she/her, and any other gender-neutral or primarily feminine pronouns are all considered acceptable when used to refer to Senna!
And thank you so very much for asking so many interesting questions!! I'll certainly try my best to answer them as best I can! Though I'd certainly like to be able to explore more of some of these aspects of her character in-depth in future works and stories! To describe a bit more about Senna's role as a warden of the wilds, she serves as a kind of mediator who strives to maintain the balance of the natural order in the face of unnatural interference and prevent foreign intruders from encroaching more than what's seen as necessary. She serves to try and maintain the integrity of the forest and other lands within her domain, helping to restore life to areas affected by manmade intrusions like areas subjected to extensive deforestation or affected by heavy pollution, and even aiding in preserving endangered and critically threatened species as well. Senna does understand that sometimes hunting animals, foraging from the forest, and even chopping down trees is necessary for some to be able to survive. But there is a difference between hunting for survival and hunting for sport, in the case of poachers and the like, and taking wood to build a shelter or make a fire to keep warm versus clearing entire swathes of land to put down industrial buildings, parking lots, and the like in her eyes.
To speak of her work from a more ecological standpoint, concerning natural disasters, the interesting thing about those is that even though they're known to cause much widespread destruction, there can also be some benefits that can be brought in the wake of natural disasters. Like helping to enrich the soil with nutrients, encourage biodiversity, and can sometimes help to cut down on invasive species in certain ecosystems. Senna sees them as a kind of necessary evil, and in most cases helps with damage control in the wake of a natural disaster to mitigate the more negative impacts such events can have. Though when natural disasters start occurring more frequently, which can certainly do a lot more harm than good for the environment in general, she will step in to combat against them.
She mostly tends to keep primarily to the mountains and the forest that she calls her home, but in a way she is steadily trying to expand more of her domain's borders to incorporate additional lands under her jurisdiction. Senna understands that this will also mean having to expand her own responsibilities as well, but she is willing to work with it as best she can.
Concerning the idea of experimenting with introducing new animals into the environment, she largely tries to refrain from doing so unless it's the only possible solution to solving an especially major ecological issue. Introducing new animals into an ecosystem can be a very tricky business, especially if they're not inherently native to the area itself as there have been major historical environmental impacts that are still being felt to this day from putting new animals in places they're not meant to be. Like, for example, cane toads in Australia, where they were initially introduced to control the beetle population there that were threatening sugarcane crops, but quickly grew out of control due to having no natural predators to control their own populations and becoming more of a nuisance and a threat than the beetles themselves. But in the case of invasive species, yes, Senna does actively work to push them out of her domain as they can have severe detrimental impacts on the ecosystem's diversity by outcompeting and crowding out native species.
As far as caring for predators vs. prey species like, say, the black-capped chickadees and their natural predators like hawks and other birds of prey, Senna does understand that relationships between predator and prey is a part of how the world and environment works. Predators are just as necessary in the grand scheme of an ecosystem as any other species, plant or animal alike, as they help to keep populations under control and maintain balance. And in her eyes, if nature must take whatever course it will and the life of one must be sacrificed for another to survive, then so shall it be.
Senna has spent much of her early life raised by hunters, and she does have the knowledge of being able to hunt and set up traps. But throughout her life, she's mainly focused primarily on foraging and gathering to sustain herself during the years-long nomadic period in her life, and upon settling down in a place that she can call home she began incorporating gardens and orchards to supplement that as a steady source of food. And of course Rowan does primarily go out hunting for meat, though wild wolves do also incorporate plant matter like seeds, grasses, nuts, berries, and fruits into their diets as well! As another interesting little fun fact about nature that I learned during my biological studies in university, wolves and dogs are considered 'facultative carnivores', and while they do best on a meat-forward diet, they are able to survive on other non-meat foods as well when necessary. Cats and big cat species, on the other hand, are 'obligate carnivores', and require a primarily meat-centric diet to survive as they're not exactly adapted to be able to properly digest vegetation.
And yes, as a druidic being with a strong connection to the wilderness, Senna can and does occasionally choose to connect her mind and senses with beasts to be able to see and experience the world from their perspectives, and gather more in-depth knowledge of their different habits and behaviors. As far as turning herself into other animals... I have considered it as a possibility since that is a very classic and notable druid ability that has appeared in different kinds of media, so in a way it would make sense for Senna to have such capabilities too! I would like to be able to incorporate and explore more of that part of her abilities sometime!
In the case of if civilization attempts to encroach on lands that are considered her domain, Senna will certainly stand firm and protect her lands to the best of her ability. She is quite a powerful force to be reckoned with due to her innate magical abilities and her command over the wilds themselves to be able to defend her home. She is very much determined and willing to put up as much of a fight as she can for as long as possible, though she's not above retreating to safer areas as well if she finds herself outmatched or if she suffers an especially bad injury that could hinder her ability to fight.
You're very welcome as always, Dreamwood!! And thank you very much for taking the time to ask such a wide variety of questions as well, it was quite interesting to go through and answer as many of them as I could! I hope that the answers will help to give a bit more insight, and of course if you have any other inquiries that you'd be curious to know about then you're very welcome to ask!
And once again, your attention and continued support is very much appreciated in ways that I couldn't begin to put properly into words, and thank you so very much for your time as well as your wonderfully detailed and beautifully worded commentary! I hope that you'll enjoy future stories and other works that I post up as well, and I wish you a lovely day, a great week, and the best of luck with finding more such artworks and stories as well that catch your interest and give some joy and inspiration for you as well~ 😊💜💜

Thank you so much! I never expected to have all of my questions addressed, and now I feel that I have learned a lot about Senna and her environment, and also I have gotten a better idea for how characters like they should be written and developed!
I especially appreciated you sharing your academic knowledge on the ecology of Senna's duties -- the part on the beneficial effects of contained or cyclically occurring natural disasters, and the distinction between obligate and facultative carnivores! It would have been fascinating to read about a nature warden prepare an overdue wildfire or a flood. An interesting fact I've learned recently is that up to a half of the maned wolves' consists of vegetation, and there is even a fruit called wolf's apple that they like.
To be honest, most of the ethical and ecological problems I mentioned earlier referred to fictional settings that either have woodland animals being capable of sophisticated speech, even if it would take a druid to understand it.
Your setting appears to have a realistic and scientific understanding of animals and their behavior, which, while still very emotionally difficult to manage, wouldn't result in Senna having to explain to one of her animals friends why is she also friends with that animal's natural predator.
A lot of my curiosity about Senna's outlook and intervention ethics also depend on the degree to which she is capable of manipulating the mineral world, and the flora and fauna around them. The difficulty with altering animals and environments for any reason lies with humanity's limited capability for manipulating genetics, and the far reaching outcomes of such tampering, be it an individual species or entire ecosystems, are always unpredictable (like the cane toad incident in Australia).
However, a mystical immortal being with extrasensory perception of the world *could*, in theory, alter nature along predictable, or manageably unstable lines. Only the druid's ambition and philosophy would be the limit to such transformation: maybe the nature miracle-worker might want to reduce the number of dangerous diseases, parasites, or otherwise harmful agents, and either engineer a single-purpose strain of bacteria, or alter the animals to increase their resistance to such adverse factors.
If certain animals have evolved behaviors or adaptations that result in severe suffering (infanticide, violent mating rituals and ultra-territorial predation, destructive grazing habits, tragically low life expectancy, dangerously low or high birthrates), a druid could tentatively attempt changing some of those elements, violating the evolutionary inertia, but having the ideal of a less-brutal homeostasis driving them.
Some might even choose to eliminate predation by changing the predator species' physiology to vegetation-compatible, and adjusting the prey species' fertility. Some might see it as their duty to uplift some of the more sophisticated lifeforms by changing their cerebral faculties to be able to support abstract thought, speech and all the good things we enjoy.
One could write a very futuristic and scientifically hard ecological novel about different druids trying to realize their own plans for the environment, while their more conservative peers are trying to thwart and undo the changes they've already implemented.

Brave little birdos, chomping in her antler berries like that. I certainly wouldn't dare to try plucking one if I met her.
That so? I don’t think she’d mind offering some to you if you asked her nicely, to be fair! They’re quite delicious and very nutritious too, unless maybe you don’t care for the taste and tang of cranberries all that much, haha~ But the local wildlife certainly does like them quite a bit, for sure!
Thank you so very much as always for the fave and for the wonderful comment as well, Thieu! It’s always nice to be able to hear from you whenever you can drop in, and your continued support and commentary on the stuff I post up is greatly appreciated every time! Always looking forward to it, and I hope you have a good one too, my dear feathered friend~ 💜💜💜

I'd certainly try one if offered, but just plucking one feels vwr rude, plus I'd be worried it would hurt her
And you're very welcome for the comments, I always like the art you comission and the stories you provide with them, the subtle world building and development I can try to learn about by reading them all, it's always intreguing

Ehe, thank you so very much as always, Wolfy!! It really means a lot that people like and enjoy my characters and their stories, and I’m always happy to keep sharing them for as long as I’m able to! And of course all credit goes to Casty for drawing this amazing and lovely piece too! They really nailed the execution of it so beautifully and in such excellent detail, and they certainly deserve all the love, praise, and support that they get for their artworks and everything they do~ 😊
Yes, of course! Any and all questions are always very welcome, and I’m happy to answer them as best I can!

Hmmmmm… Good question! I think the main descriptions I’d give for this would be peaceful and calming. Like imagining the vast white landscape of a forest during the winter, the ground blanketed by a thick snowy coat and barren, leafless trees stretching on for miles into the distance. All the while, the relative quiet all around is eased by the sounds of melodious birdsong from nearby, like the woods themselves are still very much alive and thriving even during the bitter cold season when very little grows and food is notably scarce. And because I live in North America, I always associate the winter season with birds like black-capped chickadees and cardinals, as they’re some of the most common native species that you’ll see here during that particular time of year! I chose the chickadees in particular for this piece because they actually are a lot more tolerant towards people than most other forest birds, and will even eat right from your hands if they’ve become familiar enough with your presence!
And naturally they feel drawn towards Senna as she lives alongside them in the forest, plus they know that she offers protection and can provide them with a good supply of food as well, especially during the harsh season when sustenance can be hard to come by. For me, this piece feels a lot like a mother taking care of and fawning over her kids, and to Senna, all of the animals and plants of the forest are her children. I hope that this answers your question well enough! ^^

She white/blueish, does she change with the season? That would be cool.
Indeed! Well, technically kind of. She does actually have a winter form as shown here, though I haven’t been able to think much about possible ideas for other seasonal forms for spring, fall, etc. It is a pretty cool idea, though, and I was also thinking that aside from the aesthetic changes the different seasons could also affect certain aspects of her magic and abilities in some ways. Like being able to cast enhanced cold-based spells and summon snowstorms at will during winter, and so on. Maybe one of these days I’ll be able to integrate something like that properly for her character, could be pretty fun to play around with.
