I woke up in the bed. Good thing that this was weekend. After more tiring week than usual, I had to have more meaningful rest. And after finding out what thing helps me the most with that, I decided that I should get something to eat.
Problem was that my fridge was empty. So I dressed up and went outside to buy up several things – I already decided what I wanted to eat. Plus the weather was nice, so my mood got improved a little bit.
My town was quite big, so my pedestrians were moving through the streets. Maybe I should not do that, but I had a habit to listen to their conversations. There are more harmful hobbies than this, so I haven’t felt any kind of guilt.
One talk was between two elephants. From what I have gathered, they were saying something about their walk. I could not find out about their exact profession. This conversation was not that interesting, so I continued to move on.
Another talk was between a sheep and giraffe. I immediately found out that they were not the smartest beings. Why? They were typical ”social media” women – talking mostly in chats, showing some more or less appropriate pictures of themselves and playing with emotions of others.
I finally got to the grocery store that I visit the most. I reminded myself of the recipe for a salad that my aunt was often making and was always amazing. I grabbed the necessary ingredients and paid for them. I also talked a bit with cashier. Eh... I should ask her for a date.
After heading outside, I started my return. My ears caught another conversation – this time with couple of wolves. They were quite old, so their talk resorted to reminding themselves about earlier times and ”how back in their days, everything was better”.
I was a bit frustrated. Really? No meaningful talks? About hobbies, interesting facts, not widely known niches? It is just saying something about boring stuff. I began to thing that all entities are just copy and paste of themselves – clones. How could anyone want to live in place like this? Eh... I should calm down.

Have you ever thought about how society is pretty bland nowadays - where almost everyone is not interesting and maintaining a conversation is not worth the hassle, because they behave like NPCs?
Another "365" made by me. The same problem as earlier - keeping with the exact word counter. Having a range would be easier. I checked the Word word counter then few online word counters and the scores were all different... so I ended up counting the words myself and yes, you have exactly three hundred and sixty-five words here.
Also, a challenge I imposed upon myself - releasing this before album of Mgła band - Exercises in futility - ends. And I still have like three minutes as I'm finishing this description and releasing this to the public.

Nice story.
I often find that most conversations are exactly that - banalities; there's a place for serious or deep conversation, but it's definitely not on social media or in casual chatter.

For me, it's almost impossible to have more meaningful conversations - no friends + problematic work.
I liked this very much… everyday items are always good to write about…

And it's easy to write about those. There's plenty of inspirations around, so there isn't a problem to find something fitting. Problem is that it's hard to do meaning ful conversation in real life, when others are just templates, without any development.
"How back in their days, everything was better."
Ugh, I know that feeling. Hearing people have conversations about that is agonizing.
Good slice of life stuff.

Yeah, "everything was better back then". And? It was or wasn't - doesn't matter anymore. Focus on present or future, where you still have an option to change something. Eh... If only old people weren't so stubborn...
Nonetheless, I'm glad you like my piece.

I think about this subject a lot. People tend towards narrow interests, mostly themselves. Neil Postman would say it's because electronic media has stripped our lives of context.
For all most of us know, our actions have no effect on others. So we wander through our lives saying nothing much, thinking it's the most important things ever. A sad state of affairs.
I meant to ask you to be more descriptive (what are people wearing? How does waking up feel?) but I see you were writing with a word limit. It's something you may want to think about regardless.

Heard something similar from my colleague. That without Internet, socializing would be better. In my case - living in a country that was communist state - those old customs kept to this day are also a problem, because my parents incorporate them when raising their children. And that means this kind of people prefer to focus on their physical wellbeing rather than doing something more engaging. That's just sad.
From my experience, keeping real life relationships is more of a hassle than it should be, especially when I'm an introvert. And if other side won't engage on it, that can be an issue.
I know - descriptions are important, because they help with visualizing the scenarios, but I prefer to try over-describing things, since they tend to deviate focus from the płot and that makes things look boring, when that it shouldn't be case - we read something for entertainment. At least that's one of the reasons why we read various texts. But yeah, I remember that doing at least some descriptions is necessary.

There's a difference between 'over-describing' and describing nothing, though.
And I'm aware of that. In this case is understandable - word limit. But in something else? You can describe what character is wearing, but this doesn't mean you should describe every missing thread part or how one button deviates from the rest by one millimeter.
Personally I'm not a very visually-minded person and find that aspect of writing difficult, unless it's particularly relevant to the story I tend to leave it out. Everyone has their own way of writing and as long as it's readable it's not a particularly big issue.
As for the subject I suspect a lot of people don't discuss anything but bland subjects because it's safer, there are too many fanatics and crazy people out there, and a lot of others seem incapable of hearing an opinion or point of view they don't agree with.
Oh and MS Word keeps automatic track of your wordcount, though you do have to remember to subtract the title or other aspects.

I get what you mean - my situation is somewhat similar to yours. Maybe it's not difficult to me, but I just tend to make a bit short descriptions to focus more on plot flow. And yes, each writer has their own style. You can still make suggestions, but forcing an idea on someone is just bad.
That can be one of the reasons. There are already couple of other ones mentioned here (like people tending to focus on everyday stuff and not doing anything else). And older people tend to be stubborn and "too proud" to accept other way of thinking than their own. They fail to see that these are different times. Better or worse - that's up to each person, but they are different.
I know (and I just reminded myself that I should find a replacement for MS Word). Still, I'm aware that Word isn't ideal - it was the case with the last "365 words" challenge. Upside to this is that I can count the words myself because of relatively low number.

Yep agreed, and everyone has their own preferences both as a reader and as a writer.
I found discussions online started to go completely insane over the past decade, to the point that I simply don't discuss controversial topics because it just isn't worth it.
Ah OK, I see. I tend to use the 2007 version of Word, it does the job for me.

Overall, discussing "controversial" topics (which weren't like that earlier) now is not worth it, because you just won't win the conversation with someone stubborn who defends faulty ideas. Now it's mainly "I'm offended" and earlier, you could make somewhat normal talk. And I'm sick of the current reality; why we made it harder to ourselves?
Ah, the old one. I use newer one and it's trash. I'd aim at free alternative.

Yes, there has been a real chilling effect on the free expression and discussion of ideas. I had a bad experience about five years ago when someone completely lost their mind because I politely questioned an assertion they had made, it was so extreme I decided I just wasn't doing it anymore.
Good luck, I hope you find one!

Instead of making civilized discussions, where both sides would have their arguments and analyze them, now it's forcing ideas on one another, even if it's a wrong one. When you make an objection, you are seen either as troll or someone slow. And that shouldn't be the case - I could just say that we have bigger problems, but instead, I'll write that talking to each other in respectful manner, as well as having distances to yourself could make things easier.
Agreed, however part of the problem is that people take disagreements online into real life these days with doxxing and stuff like that.
Yeah, it's sad. And by the looks of it, this will only get worse. Wish there could be an option to do something about it...
It does make you wonder how it's all going to shake out.
Since I'm a realist (and pessimist), I expect the worst outcomes.
