”Daniel, wait!”
Hyena shouted, as he saw his best friend – Daniel – packing things up into the car. As the guest got closer, he noticed that mentioned things were suitcases.
”Hey, Ricky”, kangaroo turned around and leaned on opened trunk.
”Daniel...”, hyena said and took couple of deep breaths. ”I’m... I’m sorry. I didn’t want to say those things. I just don’t want you to leave the town.”
”I have to”, car owner lowered his head. ”There’s no work for me here.”
”We’ll figure something out. Just like we always did.”
”Not this time, friend”, Daniel said, as he turned back to his car.
”Don’t do this to me”, hyena replied with cracked voice.
”You’ll truly miss me, don’t you?”
”Yes!”
”Ricky...”, kangaroo said in sad tone, as he closed the trunk and turned to his friend. ”I’m not leaving to another country. Just to the bigger city, one that’s few dozens of kilometers away. It’s not that far.”
”But we know this town for so long...”, hyena got closer to his friend. ”Our quiet, little town. Where we were pulling pranks on Old Wrinkle, watching stars while lying on the hills nearby, doing races with shopping carts... It’ll be gone.”
”No”, Daniel replied surely, while placing his hand on Ricky’s shoulder. ”No, it won’t. Those memories will stay with you for the rest of your life. Besides, you can always visit me there. And I’ll try to visit you as often as I can.”
”It won’t be the same. We’ve seen each other like... every single day. With you out of town, I’ll be...”
”Go on.”
”I’ll be empty.”
Kangaroo pulled his friend towards himself and hugged him as tightly as he could. Hyena responded in the same, when finally giving into his feelings and started crying heavily. They weren’t counting the time when they stood in that position. They were like this for as much as they wanted to be.
”I’m sorry...”, Ricky said with even more cracked voice. ”I just...”
”I know”, Daniel replied after moment of silence. ”Well... those bags are heavy. I’d probably need someone to help me unload those in my new apartment.”
”I can... I can help you with that.”
”I’d be really happy”, kangaroo responded with smile on his face. ”I’ll pay for bus ticket, so you can return here.”
”You’re awesome, man.”
”This won’t be the last time, when you’ll say that to me. Jump in.”
Daniel and Ricky got into kangaroo’s car. The driver launched the vehicle and their journey began. While Daniel will stay in that bigger city for long, Ricky wouldn’t do the same. Regardless of that, the new chapter in their lives just began.

"Sad? Nonsense! Parting with friends is a sadness. A place is only a place."

Still have to read that, but there's not enough time nowadays.
Do it 👀
It honestly reads very quickly, IMO (despite of how much of it there is)

Hmmm, considering what happens in the chapters after this quote is said I might not consider it encouraging. Lol.
Wow, that's the power of love. I hope they never give up for each other.
From my experience, school relationships - when taken outside of school often - will endure. That's why I have no real life friends.
Very sweet exchange. I always did hate the word "goodbye", it just sounds so final.
Nah, "goodbye" isn't like that for me. "Farewell" is more like it.
People have to move on, it's part of life, as difficult as it is. Good story Zakaridus.
Thank you. And I agree. Not a big problem for moving on with some relations with friends, since I had only couple of them throughout the life.
I'm reminded of the saying, I don't have many friends, just with people I like. Quality, not quantity.
Well, I had neither. Difficult to pick from people that don't have any bigger values to themselves.
I'm not certain what you mean, but I hope things improve for you in that respect.
People here (like most of them) don't have any hobbies, interesting traits... You just don't have topics that you can talk about with them. And only thing I can do for that kind of improvement would be moving out to different city.
”This won’t be the last time, when you’ll say that to me. Jump in.”
I love that line. So cocky yet loving.

Sure answers, in situations like this, are needed to ensure the survival of a relation. And using text lines familiar to that relationship helps with that too.
Love the little change in perspective here. From trying to convince Daniel to stay, to planning how they can continue their relationship once he moves away. You portray that melancholy acceptance very well ^^
This time, I could use my experience, since I saw that kind of situation in real life. Sad that partings with friends happen, but that's just another part of whole life.
Don't be sad something is over. Be happy that it happened.
These shorts are well well written. I gotta ask: How do you come up with these scenarios? It's so cool
I just go with the topic of the Prompt. For example, if the topic is "stars", I come up with the suitable situation. For "stars", I'd probably write about some star seeing by telescope by two friends and talking about their beauty, as well as how distant they are. You know, going with the normal theme and trying to give it a deeper meaning. Usually, it doesn't take me long to find an idea for the topic. I just go with first good idea that comes up to my head.
Understood. I just made a starter attempt to the most recent Thursday prompt, "scenario". This sounds like a great weekly activity to do --- thanks for the explanation Zakaridus!
