Journal, 33rd Day
They told me that if I wanted to have my questions answered, what I'd need was an audience with the Sunscale of Dalgorius. He knew what there was to know, I merely had to get the sample to him. The advice was truly perplexing. The botanists sending me... to a dragon? They said it would be of interest to him... But I did not take the journey across the ocean to be an entertainer. There was an opportunity to assess and potentially, a business to make. Yet no one in their right mind would ever risk offending the Kandhaeris sensibilities by questioning anything they said about dragons. Their partnership on the matter was precious, essential even. I wish the Yazunite elites could have matched them in their forward-thinking ways, at times... What I was doing there had more to it than personal gain, after all. If all went well, it could save lives. If that doesn't deserve a grand reward, I don't know what does.
Journal, 34th Day
I spoke to the dragon's majordomo (They even have those? The lengths they go to when they try to appease their holy beasts are truly stunning). Sevicia was her name, I think. As professional as I've learned to expect from every Kandhras-Aen official, she was keen to inform me she represented the golden dragon's estate. He would not meet me that day. Understandable, I'm no big name in there. As opposed to him. Tharumiil. Bless his scales, at least he wasn't one of those who expect to be addressed with all their titles, as his steward kindly let me know. They must've found my endeavor worthwhile, though, since they arranged for me to meet the dragon the next day, in one of those picturesque parks found in Dalgorius. Splendid. I wonder how long I'll have to wait there.
Journal, 35th Day
That was... An experience. An audience with the Golden One. I guess I should've been thankful earlier.
He didn't leave me waiting, even. Shortly after I sat on a bench of a paved plaza with a crescent-shaped fountain, a shadow of massive green wings passed me, a glimmer of gold met my eyes when I looked up. Magnificent. I saw the Kandhras-Aen cheer as Tharumiil landed with noble cadence exactly where I expected him to, on a patch of claw-marked paving stones. Seeing the morning sun shine through those velvet-like green wings... That's a sight to behold. Everyone went respectfully quiet when the lime-colored eyes rested upon me, making me jump from the bench and awkwardly bend myself in a hasty bow. I didn't know if that was the right thing to do, just felt appropriate at the moment. At least I saw nobody prostrating themselves, which was a relief.
The weight of his gaze, though... I feel lucky that there was such a calm and welcoming aura in it, otherwise my instincts would have told me to run.
Tharumiil looked around and greeted some apparently familiar faces with a gentle nod. Then, he turned back to me and spoke.
Warm greetings, sahedeen. You have travelled a long way to find yourself there. Let us find out who you are. Speak, I shall listen.
He made a gesture much like the Kandhaeris greeting, his eyes giving me their full attention. So I did as I was bid. I told him the story of the plant, the seeds, those ancient notes I bought... I showed him. I wanted to know if it really is worth something. It could be the cure to one of my people's worst ailments, if only we could cultivate it...
The golden dragon really did as he promised. He listened. With clear curiosity, at that. I swear I could feel his presence, not only that imposing physicality... It was like someone sitting next to me in my own head. Odd... And humbling, in a way.
Once I was done, he answered. Sometimes asked. His questions were precise and the insights provided in return amazed me. In all fairness, I could hardly fathom why all that was anywhere close to the golden dragon's interest. Yet Tharumiil held me there, mesmerized me with his deep, yet melodious voice. I wouldn't imagine a creature of this size to speak like a damn poet. Yet it suited him, in a way. All that golden grace...
I did find the answers to my query, as they promised me. Even more so, quite close to the ones I hoped for! My endeavor was not in vain! What a relief.
But then, I witnessed something that really came straight out of some legends. Tharumiil ordered around one of his aides to fetch a pot full of soil and asked me to put one of the seeds inside. I didn't see the purpose of doing that there and then, yet it would've felt foolish to question him.
He picked up the pot with his clawed digits and... Got the plant to grow. A plant no one has grown in centuries. I've seen the unique shine of those lime-green eyes as he studied it with measured curiosity. Then, the golden dragon handed me a pot with a sapling of the long-lost Astellignayi Ebunis. Told me it's mine, should I be so kind and leave a few seeds behind.
If his visage didn't leave me lost for words, that sure did. I asked him why, of all things, a dragon would find value in obscure plants. Tharumiil replied.
It is but one of the expressions of Creation. There is no auspicious future for me in pursuing the tools of Havoc and Destruction. If you look above you, you shall find the Sun - a source of Primeval Power, the magnitude of which may be hard to grasp. Its nature even proclaimed by some as divine, inspiring unending awe. Its light and heat shape lush jungles and desolate deserts alike. Just like the bounty of soil and water makes it a life-nourishing force, so does my Will shape draconic power into images of Life. My ancestors wanted to see a flourishing, fascinating future brought about by Growth and Prosperity, a goal I'm enamored with. Unlike a lifetime of Wrath and Dominion, it poises me as a friend of many, rather than their foe. I sleep softer without the worry of talons and claws in the dark.
I have my hopes that you will be able to relate. After all, the discovery of yours can serve many... Not just you. Heed my advice, for I have seen a few lifetimes of those as you. Once you near your End, you shall ask yourself whether the path you have chosen was worth it. I sincerely wish you to have no regrets...
As gold tarnishes, stone crumbles and steel rusts, yet the green Memory of life past conquers it all, should it be nurtured.
That left me in silence. But even now, as I'm writing this... I no longer know. Maybe it was meant to be more than a business. Some destiny of sorts...
But the Kandhras-Aen were right - the Dragon knows.
I have finally decided that my other characters need some love as well and just as I did, a great opportunity presented itself. I commissioned this lovely speedpaint piece from the impressively skilled ryuvhiel and I'm very, very glad for my choice. She really did the noble, yet benevolent character of Tharumiil justice, portraying the great gold dragon just as he deserved to be shown. I'm very fond of the pose, the details and color choices, especially when coupled with the expressive eyes and slightly translucent wings, while still retaining the mighty armored form of an elder dragon. When it comes to showing him a bit more in terms of personality, I decided to settle for a third-party account packed with a bit of lore. If you didn't scroll past it, I hope you enjoyed. ^^

She really deserves a lot of recognition for her gorgeous quality of work! If you like dragons portrayed with a sense of majestic splendor, do give her a watch if you haven't already!

Astounding art and piece of text that fully reflects him
"As gold tarnishes, stone crumbles and steel rusts, yet the green Memory of life past conquers it all, should it be nurtured" - these words describe him as beautiful and as accurate as it can do
His golden scales truly are dim but soaked in ages of wisdom and experience but his eyes still shine with healthy, soothing and ancient light of green that is more pure than any emerald
And indeed his "hobby" or rather his activity is actually kinda interesting. He has his own hoard in form of knowledge and whole world is his treasure room that he is exploring and researching while gaining even more of it
I feel I can relate to this amazing creature. He could be phenomenal friend and teacher. And I also think he is just gorgeous both in terms of beauty of his appearance and his soul
Incredible art for incredible character
