Ailith stood at the edge of her ship, watching the waves as her crew steered the ship. The ocean was kind to them tonight, a relief after pushing through a storm that they had to pilot their way through. The raccoon was looking forward to getting to land soon, it had been so long since she had a proper meal. She could almost taste the feast she and her crew would be having. They had a good treasure haul at the last cave they ventured into, so they'd be able to turn around and sell its contents for quite a bit.
As it turns out, the calm waves would be a calm before a storm, though in a metaphorical sense as suddenly the side of Ailith's ship was struck, causing it to wobble for a moment, but it wasn't enough to pierce the side, luckily so it wouldn't be going down.
The raccoon quickly pulled the telescope out from her belt, hastily looking to see where it had come from. Her eye locked in with the source rather quickly, because it came full speed ahead at her, not enough to cause damage but enough that she had to hold onto the sides of the ship to avoid falling overboard.
"Thank you so much for doing the hard work for me." a familiar voice shouted to the ship as the enemy ship hugged Ailith's own.
"We don't have to do this Evelyn!" Ailith shouted back, though the lynx simply responded with a laugh. It was far from the first time the raccoon had to deal with Evelyn, the two constantly running into each other and having scuffles.
"We don't, but I certainly want to! That was no easy cave you plundered! I would have gone in with my crew, but then that's just putting everyone in danger. Why do that when some sucker can do it for you instead~?" she cooed. "Now then, if you don't want to sink, you'll hand over the treasure you found."
"And if you don't want to sink you'll back off." Ailith growled. "You just said you didn't want to endanger your crew and that's exactly what you're doing!"
"What? You think you're a danger to us? Now THAT is a good joke!" Evelyn cackled. "Now if you'd please, give me the treasure so we can move this along. There was a nasty storm back there, don't want it catching up to us."
"If you want it you're going to have to take it!" Ailith said, unsheathing her sword and ready to fight off the rival pirate.
"Ohhoo! Looks like I get to have some fun!" Evelyn said, unsheathing her own sword and flourishing it. "Alright crew, looks like we're boarding! Don't hold back, let's show them why you don't mess with me!"
With that, Evelyn's crew began to jump onto Ailith's ship. One downside is that Evelyn and her crew had the high ground, Evelyn's ship being more large and extravagant compared to Ailith's more simple one. While Ailith's ship was better for maneuverability, it was worse in cases like this, letting Evelyn and her crew easily invade Ailith's board.
"Get ready, and don't hold back! Protect the treasure!" Ailith commanded her crew, looking up and seeing Evelyn jump down from her ship with a lunge directly toward the raccoon. She quickly jumped back, sliding with her hand on the ground and holding onto her weapon with the other.
"You're going to need to wake up if you want to win. If that attack hit it would have been so anticlimactic!" Evelyn taunted as she got into a ready stance after twirling her sword in her hand.
"And you'll wipe that cocky grin from your face when you lose." Ailith got into her own stance, squinting her eyes and ready to react to whatever it was Evelyn would do.
A smirk formed across the lynx's muzzle, running towards Ailith and swinging at her. The raccoon parried the attack, trying to get a hit in on Evelyn, but she was too quick on her recovery and blocked Ailith's counterattack.
"Not bad, you've learned a thing or two since our last fight." Evelyn complimented as the two had some space between them again. "Then again, so have I~!" Evelyn said, rushing at the raccoon and taking a swing, Ailith barely having enough time to narrowly avoid the cut hitting skin - it only managed to cut off a bit of her fur from her cheek. Ailith had to block a few more attacks, Evelyn's onslaught getting harder for her to fight back against. She could be defensive all day, and was managing to avoid any more surprise attacks, but the problem came from Evelyn not having any opening.
"Enough of this!" Ailith shouted, throwing her body back to avoid another swipe of Evelyn's sword and rounding her foot to trip Evelyn. The lynx wasn't expecting the maneuver, the attack succeeding as she fell to the ground and dropped her sword. Ailith acted quickly and kicked it away, holding her own weapon at the lynx's neck after as the two started to breathe heavily now that there was a break in the action.
"There, you've been bested. I don't want to have to hurt you. Leave and don't come back. You lost." Ailith threatened.
"Do you really not want to see this face again? I know you wouldn't want that." Evelyn said with a smirk, the unamused raccoon simply moving her sword closer to the lynx in response.
"Yes, I really do. You've been nothing but a thorn in my side since I met you." Ailith answered.
"A pity, I thought we were friends! You found treasure for me and I took it from you. It's a good system."
Ailith simply growled at the comment. "Here's what's going to happen, you're going to get up, go back to your ship with your crew, and go back to whatever hole you crawled out of."
"I could do that, or-" Evelyn cut her sentence off as she suddenly hit the side of the blade with her fist, punching it out of Ailith's hands and kicking the surprised raccoon away before jumping back up to her paws.
Ailith was knocked back, crashing into the side of the boat. The impact knocked the wind out of her, as Evelyn walked up to her, grabbing her by the muzzle. "You really haven't learned anything. One thing you should know by now if you think you've beat me, you've already lost." she smirked, her muzzle touching the raccoon's as she leaned in close with a confident smirk.
Ailith snarled back. "You haven't won anything!" she would spit at the lynx if she could.
"Oh but I already have!" Evelyn said back. "It's almost like you want to be my prisoner again! Did you really miss that chain around your neck so much~?"
The raccoon didn't respond, instead quickly brought her head back and slammed it into Eveyln's as she recoiled. "Gah!" she held her own muzzle in pain as Ailith stood back up.
"Let it be known I tried to be peaceful about this." Ailith said, bringing up her fists. "I'm knocking you back to that ship of yours! The storm is the last thing you need to worry about!" she shouted with newfound energy.
"Finally! There's that fire!" Evelyn simply cheered. "Here I thought you were going soft on me! Bring it on!"
The raccoon charged at the lynx as the lynx did the same. Ailith threw punches that were either blocked or dodged while Evelyn did the same - the raccoon just as good at avoiding getting hit as her foe. They continued to take swings, neither of the girls landing a quality hit on each other, just weak punches and kicks making connections.
As the two fought, a particularly strong wave hit the side of the ship. Ailith or Evelyn wasn't prepared for it, the two losing their balance and falling toward each other and making an impact. Before they could even try to pull away, another wave hit, causing both of them to be tossed toward the railing. The floor of the ship was too slippery with water from the last wave, causing the two girls to fall overboard and hit the ocean with a loud splash.
The two could barely get away from each other as the waves tossed them all about. Despite the fighting, the only thing they could hold onto was each other, and neither tried to pull away. They were victim to wherever the waves took them, the two crews were too distracted on the ship with their own battles to even notice that either of their captains had fallen overboard, and by the time they would - it was already far too late as they drifted far from the trajectory of the ships...

Ailith began to cough suddenly after waking up, feeling water project out from her muzzle as her eyes slowly fluttered open as she caught her breath. She wasn't on the ship or in a bed, as she could feel the sand on the back of her neck. The raccoon quickly shot up, spitting out more water.
"Good, you're not dead." she heard Evelyn say, Ailith quickly jumping up and getting ready to fight her.
"What did you do? Where did you take me?" she asked in an accusatory tone.
"I didn't take us anywhere, the waves did. And I just saved your life, you could at least say thank you. I'm not letting you drown, if anyone is going to kill you, it's going to be me."
"Saved me...?" Ailith slowly relaxed her posture and let her guard down. The coughing up water, waking up out of breath, it seemed as though the lynx was telling the truth.
"Yes, but I'm not making a habit out of it so don't expect more." Evelyn answered.
"I wouldn't want more of your help anyways." the raccoon pouted. "This doesn't make us friends but...thanks."
"Eh, you would have done the same. You're too goody goody to not try and save the person who tried to rob you today."
"You say that like it's bad to try and do the right thing sometimes! Try it sometime, you might actually get a friend one day."
"Here we go, I don't care to argue this."
"Neither do I. Where are we anyways/"
"Wish I knew." Evelyn said. "I didn't explore, I only got you back up. Looks like we're on some kind of island. No sign of our ships or land anywhere."
"Great, stuck on the island with you. A dream come true." Ailith said sarcastically.
"Please, like you wouldn't want someone like me with you! Now you can actually have some fun for once."
"Let's just find food. If we can't find that we won't survive here for long. We're on borrowed time."
"That I can agree on."
"Just don't try anything funny." Ailith warned the lynx.
"If I wanted to I would have done it. I could have ended you back there and instead, I did the opposite. We're in this together, whether you like it or not."
"And I don't." Ailith said, looking forward as she walked up the shore, Evelyn following close behind.
The walk up the island was a silent one, the years of tension between the two fully being felt as the reality of the situation was settling in. They had no way to signal their crews where they were, no way to contact anyone. There was a very real chance that both of them would be the last people they ever saw.
Ailith slowed a bit as Evelyn walked ahead of her.
"Getting tired already? Or just enjoying the view?" Evelyn taunted with a quick shake of her backside as she took point, though Ailith made no comment as the trek continued.
The raccoon kept looking at Evelyn. Why had she saved her? Even if she wanted a "fair fight," by now the lynx could have made an attack on her. And yet, things were...strangely peaceful. It would almost be unsettling if being stranded on an island wasn't a bigger issue.
Ailith was taken out of her thoughts when she noticed a palm tree, and hanging off of it coconuts.
"Hey! You missed this!" Ailith called out the Evelyn who was about to walk past it entirely.
"What did I miss? Find a nice rock you want to keep as a pet?" Evelyn turned to face the raccoon.
"No." Ailith growled and pointed upward. "There. Coconuts! A few of them too! If we can get them we'll have water. Maybe if you were pay attention instead of blindly walking forward."
"And you need me to climb and get them? Where would you be without me?" Evelyn winked and smirked at the raccoon.
"I could get them myself, but you're more agile than me." Ailith admitted, something she wouldn't consider doing normally. "You've always been better and that than me."
Evelyn's snark was suddenly subsided for a moment as a shocked expression formed on her face. Did Ailith really just admit to that? The lynx knew it was just nature of being a feline while Ailith had to work harder for her agility. It came naturally to Evelyn but Ailith had trained to be able to hold her own.
Evelyn shook her head. "Don't worry, your heroine to the rescue~!" she paused for a moment. "But...don't sell yourself short." she said seriously before her usual demeanor returned. "Alright, up we go!" she said as she got a running start, leaping up the tree and wrapping herself near the top.
"Alright, get ready to catch!" Evelyn shouted down to the raccoon.
"I'm ready, and be careful! Don't fall! I don't want to have to drag you around over my shoulder if you break a leg!"
"You think I'm that bad at gripping? Please!" Evelyn remarked back as she snapped off the coconuts, tossing them down to the raccoon you caught them with ease.
"I have to say, you're a bit of a natural at this! Maybe you were a monkey in a past life!" Evelyn laughed as she tossed the last coconut down.
"I could say the same to you!" Ailith said back with a chuckle. For once, it felt like the banter of friends rather than enemies. "Maybe the past monkey you is more pleasant to be around!"
"You love the paws, you'd miss them if I didn't have them~!" Evelyn teased, giving a small wiggle of her feet before loosing her grip on the tree, starting to fall.
Ailith's eyes widened as she sprung into action, hastily running over and diving arms out to catch Evelyn before she made impact on the ground, catching her.
There was a brief moment of silence as they looked into each other's eyes. While they had shared many glances before, it was either as prisoner or enemy. But this time, something felt different. Both the raccoon and lynx saw something in each other's eyes that neither had shown before.
Compassion. Genuine compassion. Both Ailith and Evelyn finding themselves blushing.
The silence broke as Ailith shook her head. "You know, maybe I was wrong. I should have got the coconuts down."
"Please, if I wasn't having a little fun I'd have gotten down easily!" Evelyn laughed, her own blush subsiding. "You going to let me go or do you just like holding me~?"
"R-right!" Ailith said, pulling her arms away, though deep down a small part of her thought about doing the opposite and pulling the lynx closer. What was she thinking? Why was she feeling that way about Evelyn of all people? Maybe she just needed a drink. That's it...she needed a drink!
"Looked like you wanted to kiss me there, if I didn't know better I'd thought you slap that muzzle right on mine!" Evelyn laughed as she pushed herself up. "Not that I blame you, I do look good!"
"It almost sounds like you wanted me to." Ailith said back as she did the same, walking over to the coconuts she had to drop to catch the lynx.
This seemed to strike a chord in Evelyn, but she simply shook it off. "About time we can get a drink." she quickly changed the subject, doing her best to change the subject so her blush would go away.
"No kidding. Feels like I'm thinking like I shouldn't be." Ailith said, handing one of the coconuts to Evelyn while keeping the other one for herself. Both of them used their knees to crack the coconuts open, drinking the water within it. It felt nice to finally get water into their bodies, both of them taking a hefty swig of the water.
"It's funny. All this time out at the seas I've never drank out of one of these." Evelyn said.
"Really? Not once?" Ailith was rather surprised. "I never see you on land, I would have expected it to be the only water you could drink."
"Please, I'm not only on the seas! Love me a good beach sunset." Evelyn sipped.
"Wouldn't take you for a sappy type like that." Ailith chuckled. "Never knew you had a soft side."
"It ain't sappy! I'm not always thinking about treasure like you might be." she smirked. "Got to take the time for the little things."
"Never thought I would agree with you." Ailith nodded. "Maybe when the sun is setting we can sit out and watch it."
This was met with only Evelyn laughing. "Strange situations make for strange bedfellows as they say. I'd expect you to want to sleep on the other side of the island than next to me."
"Who said anything about sleeping next to you?" Ailith smirked. "I just said we could watch the sunset together."
"And yet you didn't say no to the idea." Evelyn smirked back, leaning closer to Ailith.
Ailith leaned back a bit and blushed, quieting as she sipped on the coconut water some more. Silence fell over the two as they finished the water from the coconuts.
"We better get a shelter going before the sun starts setting. Hopefully we can find some berries to eat on the way." Ailith said, getting up and dusting the sand off of her body.
"I hate to say you're right, but you're right." Evelyn said, getting up herself. "Lead the way miss eagle eyes."
"Maybe you want to enjoy the view~!" Ailith said, teasing Evelyn the exact same way that the lynx had done earlier.
"Hmph, sounds to me you're learning how to have fun." Evelyn gave a soft chuckle. "All it took was being stuck on an island. You should have done it sooner. Maybe you'd be on my crew by now officially instead of having to be locked under the deck."
"Maybe if you got stuck on an island you would have been more pleasant earlier. Then we wouldn't have to fight all the time."
"Nah, you're just too fun to fight." Evelyn shrugged with her hands up. "No one can give me a challenge like you can."
"That sounds like a challenge right now." the raccoon stopped and turned to the lynx, getting in a fighting stance.
"Being here really did make you more fun." Evelyn said, getting in her own stance. "I'll do my best to not injure you. I'm not going to play nurse to you."
"I wouldn't expect you to, just don't expect me to do that if I hurt you."
With that, Evelyn charged up, taking a strike at Ailith who blocked it with her forearm and shoved her palm into the lynx's chest and pushed her away. She rushed up, going for a big kick to the side of Evelyn's body, but the lynx reacted by blocking with her own leg, Ailith's muzzle showing gritted teeth while Evelyn's had a cocky smirk as she quickly broke the leg off and did a quick spin and struck with her other leg, striking Ailith but not knocking her down fully.
Before Ailith could recover her stance, she was suddenly put into a neck lock from the back as Evelyn put her into a grapple. Ailith struggled for a moment, but used the grapple to her advantage by jerking her body forward causing Evelyn be tossed over Ailith's body. However, Evelyn held onto Ailith and brought her down with her.
The two rolled around for a few moments, before eventually Evelyn had Ailith pinned down. She got hold of Ailith's wrists, pinning them down as Evelyn pressed her body against Ailith's own, the tips of their muzzles touching.
"Looks like I win." Evelyn gave a cocky smirk, though this was not without a struggle from Ailith before she stopped resisting as their eyes locked.
Ailith looked deep into Evelyn's eyes, feeling how close she was to her. Both of them had adrenaline running through their bodies after their little skirmish, and Evelyn moved her muzzle so that their lips locked, hands letting go of Ailith's wrists and one going behind Ailith's neck and the other lower on her body.
The raccoon was shocked at first, but rather than pulling away she leaned into the kiss, closing her eyes as she reciprocated, her hand going behind Evelyn's neck and the other on the center of her back. The kiss was passionate, years of fighting all cultivating in a spark that neither had ever expected to be felt from the other. However, both were deep into the kiss, and it went on for a while before Evelyn pulled away and she and Ailith caught their breaths.
"Well then...looks like you finally got to eat the candy from the candy store." Evelyn said with a chuckle.
"And here I thought I would hate it. But...turns out it's pretty sweet." Ailith blushed a bit as she pushed herself back up.
"Don't know until you try it I suppose. I never really got a look at you up close, you have pretty eyes. Reminds me of a gem." Evelyn admitted, turning her back to hide her blush from the raccoon.
"That was a workout...we should probably get some more water and get our settlement ready for the night." Ailith said.
"Yeeeah, we probably should. We had a long day, I'm sure you'd love for me to press my body against yours for warmth." she winked. "You strike me as a small spoon."
"Sh-shut up." Ailith blushed and started walking forward, though didn't dispute Evelyn's claim.
****
The two sat next to each other, a simple camp set up for them to call their temporary home. They watched over the horizon as the sun was setting over it, giving an orange tint to the land.
"It's been a while since I've seen the sunset like this." Ailith commented. "You were right, this is beautiful."
"Pft, when have I ever been wrong?" Evelyn said confidently. "When I say something I mean it."
"Thank you." Ailith said, her hand moving over so it rested on top of the back of Evelyn's. "For everything."
Evelyn fought off an instinct to respond with something witty or sarcastic, but instead, looking into Ailith's eyes and smiled. "It's no problem."
Ailith leaned over and rested her head on Evelyn's shoulder as they watched the sunset together.
"You know, when our crews I find us I do wonder what they'll think about all this." Ailith commented.
"Probably be surprised we didn't kill each other having to be stuck together." Evelyn laughed. "How little do they do."
"I'll make sure my crew doesn't attack you. Only I'm allowed to do that." Ailith smiled, giving Evelyn a quick peck on the cheek.
"My crew wouldn't. They already know you're reserved for me and me alone." Evelyn said back, giving the same kiss back to the raccoon.
"Although, I'm not quite ready for our old relationship to end. It's too much fun fighting you." Evelyn smirked after the two pulled away. "Once we get back to the ships when they find us, it'll be like this never happened."
"I wouldn't have it any other way." Ailith smiled. "Call me crazy, but I've grown to like the dynamic, never though I'd admit that out loud, let alone to you of all people.
"How sweet, how you love to hate me and hate to love me." Evelyn said back with a flirty wink, something that caused Ailith to blush and look away.
Ailith let out a yawn as the sun went over the horizon. "I think it's time time we get to bed."
"Right you are." Evelyn cooed as she wrapped her arm around Ailith, kissing her neck and leading up to her muzzle as they shared another passionate kiss before bed, ending the night with Evelyn's arm wrapped around Ailith's body. They didn't know what the future held, or how long they would be stranded on the island, but so long as they had each other, it would all be alright.

My side of a trade with Recurrent, who wanted a story about two of their characters getting shipwrecked and eventually forming romantic feelings together. Also another non-TF story for me! Was a lot of fun to write!
