Busy, Busy, Busy
Whelp, this entry was supposed to be done a couple months ago, but life has been REALLY busy. It has been a crazy start to 2022 and will probably just get crazier! As a recap,
Work just gets busier and busier. Thanks to the transportation bill, we have more projects than ever! This great for our roadways and out citizens, but hell for our section, which is still woefully understaffed. We are getting projects that involve 20-50 properties at a time and it's pretty overwhelming. Moreso when you are the only one in your section. O_O It is giving me a chance to learn new things and advance my license requirements, so there are definitely bright sides.
One major even that I didn't expect was GOING TO NIGERIA! :-D My dad, my sister, and I headed to Nigeria for a time. Since it was so short-notice, I spent a LOT of time up to that point planning. My mom even bought food for us to take (my sister won't eat Nigerian food and I'm on a diet). We actually had a cook, though, and she was awesome! I really wanted to see a lot of the sites, but it didn't really turn out that way. We did see Eco Atlantic, Landmark Beach and a mall, but not as much as I would have liked. Part of the issue was gas, which was incredibly scarce. Since ever household needs gas for generators (rolling blackouts), it was nuts. One line for gas wrapped around the neighborhood and blocked us in! We couldn't go anywhere that day. Still, the beach was nice and I got work on some thing, like sewing and my panel for Gateway Furmeet. Despite my AC pooping out the second week, it was a good, relaxing time.
Speaking of Gateway Furmeet, that was literally the NEXT week, after we can back from Nigeria. While far smaller than MFF (GFM had 360 attendees in 2022), it was still fun. I got some great pictures and (barely) got to participate in the fursuit parade! I also did a panel on creating your fursonas. Since I have around 8 of them, I figured I had the knowledge and experience. :-P To hear about GFM in detail, you can watch my unboxing vid on that weekend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKh.....myYkg&t=4s The fursuit parade, my panel, and the fursuit games will be posted separately. Unfortunately, my suit head cracked that weekend, so I will be without Alyss for a while. :'(
Aside from those events, I've been attending my meetups, hanging with friends and family, and working with CorgiKnight. I'va also started listening to "Voice Acting Mastery" by Crispin Freeman. Between the VAs I have met on CK and his podcasts, I have a clear direction to go in to pursue voice acting. I also want to take some courses, but those may have to wait, til the summer.
Finally, I have been working on another character, and by extension, my original species. I'm still bouncing towards the name, but I have quite a bit of lore thought out (in my head :-P). To help with visuals JessiePark has been working with me to bring my character, Lunar Twilight, to life. I came up with the pseudonym when I joined the fandom, but I didn't have an actual character by this name. This will change when Lunar is finished. She was also used to hash out the physiology of the species, which is part kirin, part dragon, and part big cat. I'm also conjuring up a couple other characters from different biomes and with different abilities. I may post lunar's WIP chibi here, but her actual ref isn't complete.
I do have a few pieces of art that also need to be posted here, including yet another fursona called Coco Star. She is a unicorn in the MLP universe and also has my real profession (real estate appraiser). I will be sure to post her finished ref.
That's about it for now. For once, I had a free weekend, so I thought I would catch up with things. I hope you enjoyed this update and I will tty in the next one!
