This one is different, I tried to proofread it. I do not care for grammar. My day dne.

Norm barely had time to answer back as they were already passing through to the back of the café, only making a quick stop so that Ay could give the bakers a greeting.
“Hi there honey! And you two my dearest!” Norm barely even saw who were the two that Ay spoke with, making him wonder how can someone be so tall yet scurries around like an ant with high-energy. And very quick, from a checkpoint to another, both had already reached the back door that led to stairs. The café was part of a three story building, and Ay would pull Norm through every step until they reach the top. All the while he kept rambling on and on about his day and who he was.
“…My goodness, I know it was very mean, like I feel SO BAD, but at the same time not because Graysen really is pretty good at this type of situation and I needed to get these tickets out, and you know, he isn’t very nice to tell others not to get and-“ Norm barely paid attention to any of it, mainly just more preoccupied by his own heavy breathing and headache. Was he really that winded already?
Thankfully, they finally reached the floor and Ay’s apartment seems to be closes to them. “Hope you don’t mind the mess.” Ay told him before opening the door.
“Now! Go ahead and make yourself at home, uh what was your name? I am very sorry, I am just extremely booked and busy today, you know how hard it is to advertise your business no? As I was saying…”
Ay’s voice trailed off as he began moving frantically within his own apartment. Norm, in comparison, simply walked in, closed the door, take his shoes off, then glanced around. The corridor seemed ordinary, with a unique bead curtain that led to the apartment itself. Passing through, he was met with an extremely large room, almost as if he took two apartments rather than one. Ornamenting it were various assortments, such as a wall made up of different shape mirrors, closet stuffed with metal, chairs and tables that were made of disparate styles from one another. Basically, there was a lot of stuff, even the plants being a short tree in the corner, few hanging plants and pots lining up the window from shortest to tallest. This gave Norm impression of a fairly “busy” man, almost the opposite to him, and kind of intimidating in the way.
“Again, sorry about the mess,” Ay came in carrying a tray with tea set and placed it on a coffee table, except each cup and the pot had completely different style, “we haven’t yet gotten around cleaning with stuff, that said, I kinda hoard things a bit. Honestly, I’d rather move away to somewhere bigger instead, but the business is doing well, and…” He poured as he continued talking, as Norm cautiously sat near him onto one of the chairs. His was an old timey, circular and green in contrast to Ay who sat on square, mauve and almost brand new-looking.
“You know what? Enough about me! I rambled long enough, and I feel like you want to say something. Let’s see, if you want to get a job here, how about we start off with something simple…What can you tell me about yourself?” Ay offered the filled tea cup, as Norm tried to open his mouth in hopes of saying something, but quickly fell silent. Mainly because it smelled like wet dog here.
“Don’t mind the smell by the way,” Ay stated as he poured for himself. “It taste is actually not that bad!” It was as if both were on complete different wavelengths. Regardless, Norm tried to wing it.
What about me? He thought, and quickly considered all the options from his life. “I did newspapers during summer…and uh…I volunteered for school drama class…” He felt annoyed at himself saying these. He was not a remarkable person, no talent or experience to use in an interview that he wanted. Even for those few times he was recommended by family member or a friend.
Ay nodded his head, however, all the same. “Alright! Next question, what position do you want to fill?”
Norm sighed.
“I guess…cashier? Janitor?”
He wasn’t prepared at all. This was a waste of time.
“Why do you want from this position?” Ay continued, surprisingly still non-dismissive of the young monkey.
“I…just need money.” Norm admitted, barely thinking anymore. “That’s it. I heard from Archie’s guardians…”
“Oh? How the two of them have been doing, by the way?” Ay suddenly asked.
“…Just fine. Look, I know I am wasting your time I’m so-“ Norm was about to stand, when he felt some force pulling him back down onto the chair. Ay continued sipping his tea calmly, and Norm tried to look around to see what grabbed him.
“…Young man,” Norm’s body snapped forward, “while quite a few of my loved ones, such as that dashing looking manager, say that we don’t have enough space, believe me when I say, that is all a lie! We have plenty of space, and we can make more. Now, look at me in the eyes,” Ay long-delicate finger caressed the other monkey’s chin and he gently pulled it forward, “back straight, and have more confidence. Young ladies, or maybe even gents, will always fall head-over-heels for someone with confidence. Now, let’s continue.” Ay leaned back and took out his phone, apparently writing something down.
Norm sat there almost astonished. Ay then asked without looking up, “How did you hear about this job?”
Norm was taken aback by the question. “Archie. I just said-“ a thought than occurred to him, “Actually, you do know about who Archie is too, right? Like, the whole world thing?”
Ay suddenly raised his head, and looking alarmed by what was said. “How do you know about that?”
“I kinda can tell. Like, when he changes gender, for example.”
Ay tilted his head again and raised one eyebrow. “Really?”
“Yeah, and both of his guardians explained to me everything.”
“…What else did they tell you.” Ay’s voice was the same, but the tone was completely serious. Norm almost felt like he was near another person.
“That…the world is ending?”
Ay jilted forward, nearly spitting the tea from the table, only to catch himself. “Wherefore in this world did they even say this to you!?” Ay’s demanding voice pierced right through the air, surprising Norm on the spot. That said, he felt as if the taller monkey was more scared by the way he asked. “What were they thinking!?” Ay put his hand on the cheek and almost stood up. Norm could see him frantically pacing at the same speed from before.
“…It kinda came about by accident? It’s not a big deal…I guess?” Norm last words felt more forced, but it was to try to remedy the situation.
Then came a pause. Neither spoke much, as the talk of the end of the world doesn’t really lead to further discussion by itself. But then Ay began,
“Now, young man…what was your name again?”
“It’s Norm.”
“Yes...” Ay breathed in to compose himself. He then leaned forward and asked, rather gently, “what would you say are the best parts of your life are?”
Norm furrowed his brows, finding the questions a bit odd. He quickly thought about few things: his tenth birthday, his father finally returning home, his first and second trip to a convention…
Before he could get the response, Ay threw another question, “Alright, now what do all these things have in common? Perhaps the way, to say, the beauty of life?”
Norm didn’t fully grasp the direction their talk was going. Still, he thought and answered, “That I get to meet and have fun with people? That I get something new? That I have people I love?”
Ay clasped his hands in satisfaction.
“Excellent! Now,” he starred right into Norm’s eyes, speaking slowly yet gently, “tell me, what are the worst things that come from life?”
Norm thought, then replied, “Pain? Suffering? The fact that…all those things won’t last?”
Ay reached back to pour more tea into his cup, then offered some to Norm, who declined due to not even touching his the whole time. Taking a sip, Ay stood up and began talking,
“Exactly! There is certain tragedy to life, isn’t it, that it shall always end. And yet, is it perhaps the worst thing in the world to know that?”
Ay walked away from the chairs and paced around the room, his hands making intricate gestures, aided more so by their length. Norm found himself watching a performance.
“Long ago, much longer than even the world was created, there was a man. That man held no real place. That man held no real name. That man held no real past. Nor did he held a future”
“Yet, he lived long. His present was there. Every year that would pass in his life, he would change it for someone else. As life grew, he would help nurture its fruits. As ideas were created, he would be the first to learn them and pass on to others. As future was shaped, he would be the one to save it from its perils. And if there was a person in need, a child, who would curse his own living, he would reach out with his hand and let him know…That as long as you live, and truly live at that, do not stop fighting to survive!” After these last few words, he came up again to Norm and looked at him dead-straight in the eyes.
“However,” his voice now lower, and his performance was subdued, yet still dramatic, “even if he was blessed with an ability to help everyone thanks to his long life, he was also cursed to never know who these people truly are, their name, their interests, not even their eye-color. Do you know why?”
There was a pause, and Norm took a while to answer. Then once he did, “’Cause-“
“Because there was no point. You see, time never stands still.” Ay moved away from the smaller monkey and went back to his chair. “We cannot stop time. Even worlds are governed by them. ‘Time’ and ‘Space’.”
“So, what being is timeless, and yet lives in a place, where times moves even onward? Nothing beyond a nameless speck of dirt floating in the wind. And that was the fate of that person. And I must say, it is a horrid one. Believe me, I know.”
The last remark caught Norm’s curiosity, making him ask a question of who and what where Ay and other friends of Archie’s? That said, unbeknownst to him, he ended up quietly staring at Ay, who caught this and said, “Oh, you must be surprised to hear that looking at me, no?”
“Oh?” Norm mumbled.
“ But I will admit,” Ay continued, though this time, he was once again rambling, “the hardest part was to make sure all of my loved ones lived as long as I did. Perhaps, I should be open to simply accepting my fate, but there is so much to do, and believe me, I will not waste any time I have left, especially with the end of the world coming over, or whatever they call it.” Ay took out his phone and glanced at the time. Politely, he then asked if Norm was going to finish his, making the latter feel a bit embarrassed as he began drinking it clumsily. “In the end, as far as I know, it is not your responsibility to stop it. And as far as I DO know, there isn’t any danger anytime soon, my boy. So when are you ready to start?”
“Wait, you are hiring me?” Norm said, then he felt an almost strong cheesy aftertaste from tea. “But I thought-“ he coughed a bit, but got caught by Ay.
“Oh that was just a formality. I’ll talk to Graysen and the others, and make sure you’ll be given position in no time! Believe me, I am all for giving everyone a chance to try their hand at something, and I do find you interesting enough to try your hand at here. Unless, you don’t want to anymore?” Ay took the tea set into his kitchen, leaving Norm ponder a bit, but deciding that going ahead with getting a job there.
“You know,” Ay suddenly began, “I have wondered why our little dainty lady saw in you so much, since she tends to not connect well with people, but I gotta say, that is great to hear about her!”
“Huh?” Norm then figured who was he talking about, “Archie? Well, why wouldn’t h-she, you know, be friends with me?”
“…My boy, you do know I was earlier talking about her, don’t you?”
“…Well, I think that…” Norm remembered how Archie said about his age and how he doesn’t live in constant and how he, or she, is not a person. In the end, Norm admitted his lack of sleep did get him to himself, to miss something so obvious.
“I’ll just say this to you, because I believe you are the better of the two of us who can do this. I may have lived long, but she has even more so. And you are, perhaps gifted with something that most likely she will never find in another, no matter which world she visits or whichever timeline she lands on. I am saying this as her closest friend, or at least I wish I were, for no matter how many times I talked to her, I could never remember anything about her, aside from the first time we met. You can see through that ruse, so please accept this humble request – you may decline it if you desire so – but, would you make friends with Archie?” Norm looked at the other with surprise, never considering it to be asked of by another.
Ay once again said it, praying with his hands, trying his best to look and sound sincere “Pretty please?”
“…I’ll see what I can do.”
Ay clasped his hands into fists and shook them, like a young fangirl watching her favorite couple kiss.
Afterwards, they did not speak much aside from Ay asking what size he was, since apparently he wanted to tailor it himself. Norm took this statement with modicum of seriousness. After being led downstairs towards the same backdoor for the café, and they were met with a sight of a large crowd surrounding the main table.
Behind there were only four people and above their head the board which usually held the menu, now instead replaced by a hand-made paper with writing of the names of the winners. The rest of the workers and Archie were distributing the tickets, albeit there was a growing commotion, which seems to have been made by one of the workers claiming someone stole a ticket. Norm felt rather bad for everyone down here involved.
Regardless of that, Ay decided to approach the four instead, paying little attention to the growing ruckus. These four were made up of the manager, the lioness lady in charge of the staff, a well-built lizard wearing a hairnet and apron, and a slim female wolf with droopy hairstyle.
While the taller monkey got into a conversation with them, Norm then heard his name called out. The second time it happened, he figured that it came from the crowd, and looked there to find Archie trying to get his attention, now as a “girl”. She must have noticed both of them, perhaps Ay more than Norm, and decided to talk to him.
“How did it go?” Archie asked loudly over the noise the crowd was making.
“Just fine, got in. Look I’m-“ Norm then noticed Archie pull a cup. Immediately, the latter reached it out to him.
“This is for you!” Archie exclaimed, making Norm thank him. This one felt a lot more nicer smelling compared to the one he drank with Ay.
“Chamomile, really good for stress!”
“Huh?” Norm didn’t catch it first.
“I mean, I asked them to make one while we were in the middle of our game! Kinda noticed you were stressed out today!”
“…Oh really?”
“Well, baggy eyes, nail-biting, and raised temperature…Definitely you little sleep. I also remember you’ve said you didn’t want to eat at all. You really should just go home and rest.”
Norm simply put the cup down and asked “How can you know so much about me?”
“You mean that? I just…I dunno, I guess I like learning remedies sometime. Also…I usually try to learn about everything on a person, so that it’s easier to get info for, you know, my job. Sorry if that was too much?”
Archie’s head was lowered, peeking with her smile. The monkey, in return, decided that if anything, it would be better for both of them to start anew. “Look, Archie. Sorry about earlier, for yelling at you.”
“It’s fine, you were under stress. I also know that I got too overzealous about getting to know you, I am in fact not a person.” Archie concluded. “Also, about the whole world thing….Which isn’t really a thing! Just, something for people like us to keep in mind because that’s what we deal with.”
“It’s fine.” Norm said feeling relaxed.
Norm checked behind himself and found Ay telling the four people that he was about to leave. “Alright, I’ll see you all in the evening.” He then leaned toward Graysen, “Bye Darling!” He kissed the gorilla guy on the cheek, who was looking unamused. “Goodbye Sweetie!” He then kissed the lioness, which she returned back. “Stay safe, Honey!” He kissed the lizard, also on the lips. “And you look after everyone, My Dearest!” He kissed the wolf, on the cheek, who simply smiled.
As he left, Norm gave a look to Archie, who replied, “They are all partners!”
“…Where do you find these people?” He said incredulously.
“Oh, he comes from another world. It’s actually right next to this one!”
Norm shook his head. “Just explain to me on the way home.”
